5-10mg of Methadone safe for recreational purpose?

Hello Everyone, I've just spent about 5 hours reading the Methadone related threads because I'm thoughtfully considering taking half of a 10mg tablet (pill imprint: M 5771). But I'd like to double check and see what your thoughts are.

Being a chronic pain sufferer (fibromyalgia/migraines) I've had my fair sure of opiate usage, primarily Vicodin/Percocet. It got to the point I could easily take an upward of 15 pills a day, until I realized I was going to blow out my liver from the APAP in the hydrocodone (I don't know why, but my body metabolizes it very quickly). Anyway, my point is, I would say I have a moderate tolerance to opiods. I also have had many, many Dilaudid shots due to surgeries and rupturing cysts (in the hospital of course). In the last couple of months I've managed to stay away from hydrocodone for the most part and have only taken 1-2 tablets for pain here or there.

Would it be okay for me to take 5mg - 10mg of Methadone for recreational purposes?

From what I understand one should NOT redose in a 24 hour period if used recreationally, to avoid OD'ing.

Take 5mg and see how you feel. Even though you have a tolerance for opioids you can always take more - never less.

I took 5mg this morning around 11:30am, I could feel the warmth/euphoria of it after about 45-60minutes (my body metabolizes medication very quickly). It felt like I had taken about 5 hydrocodone pills (5/500APAP). So my word to those of you who aren't familiar with opiates, start REALLY small. I couldn't believe 5mg was that strong. I can see why now people have said not to re-dose within 12-24 hours.

Also, I had a horrible migraine all night last night and this did help with the migraine after about 2 hours of taking it. It's been about 8 hours now and the migraine is completely gone.

Yeah a lot of people that aren't dependent on it don't realize how strong it is, and that's how they OD. I remember some kid on here wanted to take 25 mgs. for his first time, I was like wtf?? lol. You did the right thing though, 5 mgs. was a good idea. Like sekio said, you can always take more- never less.

Thank you for this post. I was in the exact same boat and didn't know if I should take 5 or 10 or any at all. I remember a few years ago reading a bunch of threads on methadone and getting too scared to take it. I have a high tolerance to norco and Percocet but I'm out of all pain meds (as usual) My endo pain was crippling and my neighbor offered me some of those methadone pills again... I was like... I'll try anything right now.... 5 mgs it is. Thanks blue lighters.

You're safe, unless you have a lower-than-average tolerance to opioids. It's just not likely, all considered, that 10mg of methadone could kill an adult human. Safety first, but you may find any kind of recreational experienced sacrificed by dosing methadone at 5mg increments with the recommended span of 3 hours between each. I'd start with 10mg, with the worst case scenario probably being a period of excessive napping.

Always tread lightly, like you are, with any new substance. Especially with methadone, it's long half-life makes it a different experience than the other more widely available opioids.
