I always thought I was a well spoken person and I am a suburbanite who was raised around city types. My parents are not, they're middle class hicks, but why when they call the automated phone call do they get heard more articulately then when I do it?

Maybe put that in the original post, then.

And while I'm in Australia, we also have voice recognition services here. They work OK for the most part, I find background noise to be the bigger factor in errors.
