2nd cold turkey from 5 years daily use

this is the 2nd time i went cold turkey from weed. the first break was 1 month from last year and my 2nd break now is one week so far. i've been smoking daily for at least 5 years. i usually buy half oz of decent nugs every two weeks = $$$ per month :X

1st cold turkey - 1 month - 2008
2nd cold turkey - week 1 - 2009 may
*UPDATE* as of June 26 2009, sober from weed for two months straight

now this week - the first night was not hard to sleep because i exercised and worked all day. the following nights i was having intense dreams one after another. last night i was dreaming about smoking joints but for some reason i didn't feel high so i just smoked joints after joints thinking i got schwag :| now i am able to remember at least 80% of the dreams when i wake up. i am able to control (lucid) some dreams.

from my 5 years of smoking weed daily (up to 1 ~ 3g per day.) i've noticed the habit of doing everything while stoned is more interesting. the things i used to do while stoned are no longer interesting. now my mood seems to be more agressive and my thoughts are more cleared. now i sweat less and able to eat reguarly.

Starting my break today. I smoked daily for years, now I usually keep it to the weekends. This past 2 or 3 weeks I have smoked daily though. I want to totally clear out my system before I go back.

Nowadays I smoke far far less then a gram a day... like maybe one or two puffs, once or twice a day.

ya i've also recently cut back to just the weekends after smoking all day everyday for a while. It's pretty nice but I do miss doing everything stoned :P

I also quit this year, and I honestly can't even remember how long its been. I think the last time I smoked was in January, but I drastically cut my intake starting July 2008. I was a daily smoker for 5 years, I smoked maybe half a gram to a gram everyday.

I also started having very lucid dreams and I can actually control what's going on and remember what happened when I wake up in the morning. Like you, I was so used to doing everything stoned and when I stopped my mood also became more aggressive, things seem to irritate me easier. Rest assured it will go away :)

The hardest part of the whole process was around the 21-28 day mark, I had crippling headaches. Tylenol or other meds didn't help, surprisingly I went to a Chiropractor and had him adjust me and the pain disappeared.

I remember trying to quit late 2007 and at the end of the 3rd week i suffered from the worst migraines i've ever had in my life. I went to the doctor and explained my situation and he told me that since i've quit smoking i've probably become a lot more physically active, and my body being so used to chilling for so long is reacting negatively to excess activity (well it seemed like excess to my body but it wasn't even close). They persisted on and off for about a week and then they slowly drifted away. Needless to say, i thought i missed sobriety but when i was there, all i wanted to do was smoke up.

Your body will get better over time and things will start being interesting again. Maybe not in a month, it make take longer but how bad do you want to quit?

After 9 months of heroin addiction I had the same thing, everything was much more interesting on heroin, eating, whatever. Now 9 months later I'm starting to slwoly enjoy things.

Heroin is a lot worse than weed for many reasons but since you had 5 years of use it might take you some time to get better.

Just gotta be patient and force yourself to do things. Exercise.

I find physical activity, as Z Y G G Y said, is a great way to start feeling more cognitive and not burned out. I love to set high standards during my breaks, and am proud of myself when I met them. It's a nice feeling telling yourself you can do it, and actually doing it afterwards.

I too have dropped from daily smoking to 2-3 times a week at night before bed.

I'm currently on day 2 of my break from cannabis (Pretty much daily use for the past 2 years give or take a few days break) As per usual when I've gone on mini-breaks from bud I've noticed getting to sleep is pretty difficult even after exercising a fair bit during the day.

Next time I'm smoking will be the 23rd (Birthday) so I'm hoping a nice 20 day break will clear my head abit, then after that it'll strictly be smoking on weekends, the tolerance I've now got makes the habit too expensive and not worth it, plus after shrugging off the signs of abuse for some time I've finally experienced the negative effects of over-toking and want to keep enjoying the 'erb!

Want to know a good reason to quit for a while? Commit yourself to run a marathon....that'll get you some GOOD habits very quickly :)

I'm on day 23 or 24 after smoking/vaping A LOT of headies everyday for around a year. I'm pretty sure this is the longest I've quit since the first year I've smoked. It was hard at first because I live in a dorm where all of my friends are potheads and smoke several blunts every day, but I don't crave it anymore. I'm able to sit in a car with blunts being passed around without being tempted (okay, maybe a little). I feel much sharper and more clear-headed now, like my old self. Its a lot easier to wake up in the morning too. It's also easier to find ways to entertain myself constructively without lighting up. You start to forget these things as a daily smoker.

I'm looking forward to starting again though. I feel like I've already met the extent of my pre-smoking sobriety, yet I feel more and more sober everyday. I feel more sober now then I did before I ever touched drugs. It's rather uncomfortable. One downside of sobriety is that I've also reverted to being as cynical as I was pre-ganj, and I don't like it.

week two of soberity:

same, vaping headies everyday for me. it is tempting to smoke in a car of potheads but i enjoy the 2nd hand smoke lol. now every morning my head is more clear and motivated compare to before where i feel lazy and my thoughts are cloudy.

i look forward to blaze again in about 2 months since i am away in another country now. i have easy access to weed in another country so i'm tempted to be back to before but i don't want to do that. i want to blaze up maybe once a week or just on the weekends but it would be really hard.

this is week two now. i've started working out in the morning and at night. i put on some weight (3kg) within two weeks period and now i can eat a lot.

yes, the sleeping can be aided with over the counter all natural sleep aid melatonin & the agression, lose of interest/motivation will subside after 2months+ absence.

i too am on the quitting bandwagon at the moment.

last time i quit cold turkey (from smoking very heavily) - i ended up with diohrea in the first week or two.. after a quick google i found this was not uncommon :\

i started back up since again though.. and am now on my third week of 'mostly' cold turkey (ive smoked a single cone on two seperate occasions during this period)

stay strong!

It's been 20 years for me after 11 years of daily smoking. The funny thing is at least once a week i get stoned in my dreams and i actually feel the high. I thought after 20 years these dreams would stop but i do enjoy them.

I'm just about at the one month mark now. I'm debating whether or not to stop at this point or keep going. I'm thinking that I'll probably hold off for around 2 more weeks until the end of the school year.

Good luck to everybody else that's quitting. If somebody is holding a blunt to your face and you feel like theres no reason to keep going, just remember that it's easier to delay another day and think about it then to redo the weeks of abstinence.
