Hi Everyone,

I'm a 22 year old white male, 190 pounds, 6'3 and I've been struggling with symptoms that I feel are directly correlated to low testosterone. Now there has been a lot of been through while trying to find answers to my lack of zest for life, lack of productivity, sex drive, maintaining an erection etc.

I've tried a few anti-depressants, zoloft, cymbalta and wellbutrin, zoloft and wellbutrin made me feel completely terrible and suicidal but helped with erections? and cymbalta made me feel good and returned erections but I opted to stop due to weight gain, price and horror withdrawal stories. I'm only going to include my most recent lab since it's the shortest with most relevant information.

LH 4.3
FSH 1.6
Prolactin 7.8
Estradiol 21
Testosterone 533
DHEA Sulfate 342.4
Cortisol 12.3

My Albumin, Globulin and Thyroid from a previous lab were 4.7, 2.7 and 1.4 respectively.

My endocrinologist agreed that my symptoms were most likely due to low testosterone for someone my age and decided to start me on testosterone replacement therapy, 2 ml of 100g/ml compounded testosterone every morning that should move my level to the 600-700 range.

I've been on the therapy for a few weeks now and initially I did feel a huge burst of energy for like the first two days then a huge crash were my memory was terrible and started working out less and less cause I couldn't last as long cardio wise and I felt completely lethargic.

The negative side effects have improved quite a bit since then but I still can't run as much as I used to and I feel like i've gained weight despite maintaining a simiar diet (perhaps due to lack of ability to run). I called the pharmacist that compounds the testosterone and he said it's probably due to water retention making my hear work harder and that that would also be the reason for the weight gain.

Mentally however I do feel the effects of the testosterone, more assertive, hornier, focused, feel like an actual man.

I would really appreciate hearing your opinions and if you need any additional information I would be happy to provide it please ask. I"ve been struggling with this for a very long time and any advice would be helpful.

Best Regards,

Chris

I'm suprised the endo prescribed you testosterone at a level in excess of 250. Anyway, that dose of 200mg every morning doesn't make sense? What kind of testosterone did he prescribe you?

It was a compounded testosterone gel (made from soybeans) and it's 2ml which is 200mg every morning, I think gels have a low absorption rate however so I'm only getting about 20mg per application from what I've read.

This doctor sounds like a fuckstick.

I was actually surprised he decided on TRT I had initially gone in just to make sure my other hormone levels were normal since my GP and Psych had said that my test level were fine and fell within the normal range. My test fluctuates from 500-570 usually and according to some charts that falls within the lower standard deviation of test for people my age, however it's not abnormal....

I can't ever get prescribed testosterone, when I'm off gear, which isn't very often, my levels usually sit around 300.

300??? that's ridiculous man, you need to shop around and go to separate endo's/urologists. On my first try I got one that was willing to prescribe me test when I was at 530 and I didn't even really want the test.

If you are within normal range and are suffering from problems with energy and libido it's called proper diet, exercise, and getting off one's ass. 200mg every morning makes no sense, as does the doctor compounding it every morning with soybeans. Why not just Andro-gel bro? Why would he raise your Testosterone to the 600-700 range?

This story reeks of bullshit.

There are pharmacies called compounding pharmacies that make medications at a cheaper cost than what you would get buying androgel or testim. I was not saying that they "brew" my testosterone daily lol, only that they "compound" (create) the testosterone at that particular pharmacy through soybeans. When I go to pick up my medication I get a months worth of testosterone for 45 dollars.
It comes in gel form and I apply 2 ml on my skin, every ml has 100mg worth of testosterone. However not all the testosterone gets absorbed through your skin, so say you applied 2ml of compounded testosterone, that would place 200mg of test on your skin and your body would only absorb 10 to 20 percent of that.

The 600-700 range because that's what considered average for someone my age.

no reason to bullshit this.

Yeah, but your doctor is a fucking idiot, because no doctor in his right mind would ever prescribe that amount for anyone with total test above 300.

Yeah, I think there are tons of cases where people are put on anti-depressants when they should actually be on hormone therapy.

As for your current issue of finding balance, I'd say you need to play around with dosages of both test and your AI until you eventually find the sweet spot. Good luck.

tell me about it, i was on zoloft, celexa, prozac, effexor, seroquel, and risperidone (not all at once, but some in combinations) at age 14... if that didn't ruin my teenage sex life, i don't know what did, even though i was only on for about a year and a half, there was at least a year that i didn't even think much about sex...

never had my test checked but even shortly after PCT right now i KNOW it's quite high. i think the OP can recover from this if he just changed his lifestyle. your mentality has a lot to do with testosterone levels too ime.

Damn right, this a-hole should/will be gone for malpractice before long - cannot imagine he will sustain clientele if any of the above is truth - very sad
