hip-hip-hooray, it's that wonderful time again! :|

Here are the current confirmed contenders thus far.

FIGHTING OUT OF THE RED CORNER

Jeb Bush
Ben Carson
Ted Cruz
Mark Everson
Carly Fiorina
Lindsey Graham
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
George Pataki
Rand Paul
Rick Perry
Marco Rubio
Rick Santorum
Donald Trump (for fucks sake, Donald.)

FIGHTING OUT OF THE BLUE CORNER

Lincoln Chafee
Hillary Clinton
Martin O'Malley
Bernie Sanders
Jim Webb

Many of the smaller parties and independents will be updated as they emerge with their candidates.

I wanted to use opensecrets.org for their links instead of wiki, but it's a bit early to have enough information to do so. Let us begin the circus.

You have the colo(u)rs reversed to us in the UK. How do Republicans feel being potentially confused with "Reds under the bed"?

You've done the black thing - proving you were ready to elect a black President ("Who knew?" as Trudeau put it in Doonesbury the day after the election)...are you ready to do the 'woman thing' now? Or, it being Hillary, does that make it more the 'Hillary thing'...if you follow what I mean?

The black thing? Obama is just as much white as he is black lol.

I would personally rather have an openly gay president just to make a whole bunch of people squirm.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure when people were punching holes in chads in 2008 or whatever bizarre thing it is you lot do they thought they were voting for a black guy.

Obviously we all know now he's a white Muslim.

So are you ready for Hillary or what?

How many of you all are bothered by the fact that at least half the Republican candidates believe humans and dinosaurs coexisted until around 3000 years ago?

It's disturbing, but I have such a low opinion of the presidential election I find it hard to care, I don't see much changing no matter who gets in. It's a game of pick the most charismatic retard. Or of whom the next person to spit on the constitution should be.

I feel like I'm in a bad dream every time I see their names in the media. These people are too obviously stupid, ignorant, greedy, ambitiious, power-hungry, mean, corrupt, etc for this to be really happening. Anybody who has spent only a little bit of time reading about them and who has average intelligence and a basic high-school level of education should be able to see this. Somethign is horribly wrong when these are the top candidates, not just "joke" candidates like Mickey Mouse. But they have been chosen to run based on what the American masses want. They reflect the people. Their beliefs, intelligence, level of education, etc are what most Americans apparantly relate to.

does anybody think anybody other than bush and rubio have a chance (of the nomination let alone president)?

I'm not following it closely, but my impression is yes, these are the only 2. Then Bush 3 will get the nomination (better reputation among Republicans, name recognition and possibly racism against Rubio). Hilary Clinton will have the Democratic nomination. So it will be Clinton II versus Bush III. Clinton II is too divisive a candidate to acutally win, so you can look forward to 8 more years of Bush.

With Bush III, it will be Business as Usual. He will pick up where Bush II left off but with more emphasis on:
1) drug prohibition than we've seen in a decade
2) military operations in the Middle East
3) Massive budget cuts to basic scientific research (the things that once helped America get ahead) including crippling cuts to the NIH and NSF budgets.

I cant believe how early this crap is beginning.

Im going to go out on a limb and predict the worst voter turn out in US history as we are all going to be utterly sick and tired of hearing about these losers.

Well mostly losers. Rand Paul 2016 baby!!!

I love how you left out the fat bastard, human planet, self righteous food addict Chris Christie.

Is that degenerate still being considered?

On the subject of degenerates, what's with Rick Santorum? I was surprised that was a real name - I had read that a Santorum is the name for "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex."

I just looked it up on Ency. Dramatica. Not sure if it is real or not.
Santorum is defined as: The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. This definition was popularized by butthurt American columnist Dan Savage, i....
I was intrigued by your recent revival of an old Latin term for the by now familiar frothy agglomeration. While "Santorum" is an excellent word, it is a sad reminder of the state of the English language when opaque latinate lexica eclipse our solid Germanic root stock. After all, there is nothing wrong with the fine old Anglo-Saxon "buttbutter," the rustic charm of which evokes the scents and sensibilities of a stolid British grammar school. As regards this particular trope, English is fairly typical of Western European languages; witness the German cognate, "Arschbutter," or the French "beurre anal." Spanish, however, is an interesting exception. The term "Alsaon," like so many Spanish words that have survived since the end of the Moorish occupation, is derived from a Maghrebi-Berber term, which is in turn a corruption of a Latin loan word, none other than "Santorum"!

^ i used to read the sf weekly when i lived there and recall dan savage coining the term (well, the definition) and encouraging his readers to make its use widespread.

Well, to put this question into perspective, a much dumber Bush was elected twice :P

My money will be on Rubio for the nomination. An historic candidate, popular with the elderly because he's always talking about the good old days, he's young, charismatic. People eat that shit up.

But they have been chosen to run based on what the American masses want. They reflect the people. Their beliefs, intelligence, level of education, etc are what most Americans apparantly relate to.

I feel like it's more accurate to say that the masses were presented with these people as serious players in the political arena. The public's job is to choose which of the pre-selected and vetted instruments of corruption they like best. Who the hell knew who Barack Obama was in 2006 besides voters in Illinois and a few reporters?

Yes. But honestly, it's become SOP for the GOP, so I'm having trouble being so outraged all the time. I'll admit, I wish they'd all commit suicide together like the lemmings they are, but I'm not holding my breath.

Fortunately, no. The far-right nuts really come out in force for the primaries (candidates, but also voters unfortunately). Hopefully they'll all just push themselves so far to the right that a socialist (BERNIE BERNIE!) will look like the obvious choice.

I'll definitely be voting for Hillary... It was good that we got a black president last time but this time we need a woman in office.

This guy. This is who I want to see leading America. God that would be amusing.

Or Jeb Bush. Third Bush in the White House. Equally amusing.

God help us all.
