2010 College Football Coach of the Year

I concur with Chip Kelley. I know Phil Knight supplies Oregon with an essentially infinite amount of money to fund their football program, but that aside it is hard to recruit enough good players to Oregon to field a national championship quality team.

I know the area is nice and all, but it is fucking cold and players typically want to move to warmer climates, unless they have their heart set on OSU or Michigan. Recruiting nationally is a bitch.

As much as it hurts to say I think it should be Gene Chizik. Auburn has won all its games with a defence that has no business being undefeated it is impressive that they have scored enough points to win there games.

^Yes but without Cam Chizik is nothing.

Spurrier should be coach of the SEC at least. Not too many coaches could've won anything, much less the SEC East, at SC.

Oregon is a logical place for runners to go... This is an advantage Oregon has over most schools.

I would say Chip Kelly, Steve Spurrier, and to throw a new name in the hat - Wisconsin's head coach Bret Bielema

these are three great coaches, and one NCAA collegiate legend in Steve Spurrier

what makes them all stand out, to me, is that all these coaches could have had mediocre seasons this year - and they could get away with it by having good enough excuses

South Carolina: "well, we play in the SEC. it's tough. when's the last time we have won the SEC East?"

Oregon: "well, we let go of our old QB who really had a grasp on the situation. this year was more of a rebuilding year, and a year for our new QB to learn the system"

Wisconsin: "we expected to be good this year, but not great. what else can you do when a teams like Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan State were having their usual great seasons?"

however, all three coaches have excelled, and excuses need not apply

well, you are hurting your pick because you didn't really give any reasons to back up your claim. that is what's making you come off as an absurd homer. "obviously I chose Chip Kelly for obvious reasons," doesn't truly show that you have put some time and effort into thinking this one through

I like Frank Beamer as a college coach for sure. however, he hasn't done much in the last two years. sure, he might win the ACC, but that's not really a great enough accomplishment these days in college football

is it possible for you guys to check your bias at the door? I mean, it's different when you are posting in the college football thread. when someone asks a question like "who is Coach of the Year," the only way to successfully answer that question is if you intelligently look at it and drop as many of your pre-conceived notions as you can

it would have been no fun if I just entered this thread and spouted off "Jim Tressel, go Bucks!" although Jim Tressel can usually compete for Coach of the Year almost every other season

while JT's been good this year, I would have to award the Big Ten's COTY to Wisconsin's Bret Bielema. not because they will be the highest ranked but because of the reasons I listed above. see how I checked my Scarlet & Grey colored glasses at da door?

^^
wisc's coach is a good answer

My pick is probably Dan Mullen given what he's done at Mississippi state, though I'm open to bowl season persuasion.

And ya, hair-O, you're insufferable, and I eagerly await your cooling-out into a level-headed college football poster in a season or two.

dude I'm about the most die-hard Buckeye homer you will ever seen. unlike most of the bros here at brOSU, I am a townie, who has been raised to not piss on the State of Michigan even if it was on fire. but when trying to express myself intelligently in a debate over college football, it is best to think as objectively as possible

if all you do is sit around and watch your team, and no other team, with how much weight is your opinion going to be taken when discussing college football as a whole? not much

I'm for sure not hating, I'm just arguing in an intelligent manner. to what does it seem that I am hating about? I don't hate Oregon, my Buckeyes beat them down last year and I honestly think tOSU would win if they played again in a bowl this year (despite how unlikely the match-up is)

Jim Harbaugh has led Stanford to its best record for 80 odd years, and was a 4th quarter at Autzen away from being 11-0 and in pole position for the BCS title game.

4 years ago ...before he arrived they were 1-11 under Walt Harris
His turnaround is even more impressive when you consider Stanford will only accept certain types of students. No 2.1 GPA guys on his team.

He will be off to the NFL faster than a thunderbolt if Luck declares.
I would not be surprised if he is the Vikes/Panthers/Cowboys coach next year( If Luck declares) and they end up selecting him #1 overall, or trading up to get him.

What about Bobby Petrino. The hogs are 10-2 and if not for auburn we would be in the SEC championship game. Not to mention most of his recruits playing for him now Houston Nutt recruited.
