I've been on subs for a year. When I ran out of my script of suboxone, I tried to make an appointment with my doctor who's only in the office 1 day out of the week and couldn't get in for at least 6 days. I was forced to cold turkey 6mg a day and decided to keep it going. The first week was ok bc I had a lot built up in my system. So I thought I could get by not getting a new script and now I'm at 2 weeks of withdrawal and it feels full blown. Runny nose/watery eyes, fatigued like I have the flu, and the worst RLS over my whole body. I can't function, I can't sleep more than a few hours each night and I can't get any more subs for 6 days.

Since I've gone 2 weeks without, I feel like there's no point getting more subs (its really expensive almost $50 a script). Am I wrong? Does this get worse or better? I have gabapentin but nothing else...and can't get any more prescription meds. Will immodium help at all? maybe something OTC to help sleep? Feel free to chime in w/ any helpful info. Thanks

The half-life is about 3x longer than most short-acting opioids, so the withdrawals last about 3x as long. Full-blown withdrawal can last around 3 weeks, but then you'll probably (95 percent (fucking e-motes)) go through a very long PAWS. I was only on the patches, and I wasn't back to shitting normally for about a month.

Imodium will probably help with the runs and the nausea a little bit (I'd try 8-12mg/dose as needed), and you can try with the OTC sleep aids, but I'm not sure how much they will help. If you can get ahold of some benzo's or z-drugs(short-term) I would advise this, but remember, GABA-ergic dependence is just as bad if not worse than opioid dependence. Proceed with caution. I wish you the best of luck.

Take Benadryl for the runny nose and those side effects. I find it helps with the flu like symptoms very well.
I don't know if it will make you sleepy but it will make you feel a little better.

Also immodium will work for the diarrhea. I haven't tried it but people swear by it.

5-hpt works well for depression and mood as well as GABA.

If you think you can get off of suboxone and going fairly well then that's great!

My dr wanted me to try the butrans patch and I said no. It sounds too risky.

Good lick and I hope you feel better.

You jumped off of a pretty high dose so it's gonna be rougher for you than most. If you can make it another week, though, it will only start getting better from there. You can speed up the process by exercising, eating healthy and staying busy.

Only drug I would recommend is immodium. That shit works wonders.

...but then you'll probably (95 percent (fucking e-motes)) go through a very long PAWS...

A handy trick: You can type blah blah blah to show your text inside those tags exactly as typed. For example what would normally show as (95%) because %) displays as the emoticon %), with the noparse tags added displays as (95%). If you're like me and too lazy to type out the tags you can just put a space between the % and the ) like (95% ) though.

crestfallen - If you've already gone 2 weeks with no Suboxone I would stick it out. Check out The Opioid Withdrawal Megathread for some tips on things you can take or do to ease withdrawal symptoms and check out The Dark Side for emotional support and tips on how to cope with cravings etc. You've been really strong to make it this far, things should start improving pretty soon hopefully :)

Thanks for that tidbit of advice...been on here for more than a year (diff account than original) and didn't know that lmao.

They prescribe enough to not only hold off withdrawals, but also to block other opioids from being effective at all when Rx'ed as maintenance therapy.

Thanks a ton to the helpful advice guys. I took some Nyquil last night and was able to get 5hrs of sleep and it seemed to help with a few other symptoms. I'm gonna get some loperamide today, hopefully that will help and make this a bit less harsh.

And to hemdroids: What Jktm said. Although there was a time when I was at 2mgs and felt fine, I went back up to 8mg after I got a job bc it seemed to help with the fatigue after a hard days work (glad I'm not working now though). Also my doc wanted to help keep cravings at bay so he rx'd a higher dose.

This is WHY you feel bad. Loperamide should help with withdrawals now

IMO because of the long half-life of Sub, you jumped off from a blood level dose higher than 6 mg. I don't think I can post links yet, but if you paste this url

it shows how the daily doses build up over time. No one on this forum seems to understand this, it always "sub withdrawals are a bitch and last a LONG time". Well this is why. Even with a taper down from 6 mg(which you didn't do) you would have had a higher blood level than 6 mg. If you were on it a year, you could,ve had a blood level of 16 mg. No wonder you are feeling bad this long after stopping - your blood level is finally dropping to the point where you are in true withdrawal.

I had originally planned to do a slow taper which coincidentally would have started right around this time (I would be free by jan 2013). But that is under the best of circumstances and it could be worse (I COULD have a job, school everyday, other commitments etc..). I just didn't plan it out right and ended up paying for it.

bupe withdrawl is going to be just as agonizing as any other opiate withdrawl (heroin, hydrocodone, oxy, fentanyl, methadone) only difference is since bupe is a long acting opioid, withdrawl will last alot longer then your normal opiates
(heroi, morphine, oxy.hydro) they say withdrawl is less intense with bupe and methadone but longer thean other opiates, but i agree that the withdrawl from bupe and methadone is just as agonizing as other opiate withdrawl, and lasts much longer

sorry to bump and go off topic. im on methadone, and this one girl i know is on 200mg at the clinic, she has been weaning off, and the sad part is they are tapering her 1mg down every week, and she still feels symptoms of withdrawl, no matter how slow u do a withdrawl, u will suffer, esp. when ur done tapering, even if u decrease 1mg every year!,after that is Post Acute Withdrawl,a wholw other ball game

Fuck I can remember when I got straight cut off 16mg of Suboxone because I was going to a treatment centre to get off benzo's, and they told me they had Suboxone there, and used it there. Then when I got there, they got buprenorphine mixed up with "bupropion" (Wellbutrin). How the fuck did they do that? I don't know but it was retarded and I was having constant diarrhea for 2-3 months and having to take Immodium like three times a day, EVERY day. It was awful, but I have been on Methadone in the past, and Methadone is fucking way harder to come off of than Suboxone, hands down. If some of you think Suboxone is hard to come off, well I can understand what you mean because of how long the withdrawal lasts.

But Sub withdrawal is not nearly as bad as Methadone withdrawal, and Hydromorphone withdrawal is far far more intense than Suboxone withdrawal but a much shorter period of w/d, like 1-2 weeks of physical w/d instead of like 2-3 months. Methadone is god awful horseshit. I haven't had Methadone since 2009, and I was on 190mg of Methadone (Stupid doctor I had at the time kept increasing it when I told him I was fine at 140mg). Coming off that was pure torture, and I had to constantly get Oxy 80's everyday, and even using like 4-5 80s a day to help with the Methadone withdrawal hardly even touched me. Anyways I recently had a Urine drug screen test with my Sub doctor, and it showed up as "lightly positive for methadone". So that scared the shit out of me because I thought, fuck can Methadone actually still be in my fat tissue or something? That is straight fucked. :?

Anyways, Sorry if I went on rambling. Just my experience, and my opinions. Everyone has different brain chemistry though, but by far the worst drug to withdraw from is Benzodiazepines. Because the w/d from benzo's can last up to 2 years or more in severe cases like mine.

i was on suboxone for 5 yrs straight, when i stopped cold turkey it lasted abot almost 2 months-acute WD, i couldnt bare going tru PAWS< so now im on methadone 100mg..im a lifer i think

Off Suboxones 48 hours in

I'm going through the same thing right now. My insurance is gone and its hour 48. I'm wondering when will it really hit me. I had a fit of yawning and tearing this morning but I know that "the check is in the mail" and its coming. I just am worried as to when. This whole neighborhood is awash in drugs, I feel as if I'm in my own private Alamo or Vietnam.

I took subutex (12mg, usually snorted them) for 6 years and quit CT ~7months ago. I took 2 months for physical withdrawal to subside. It does get better by week 4. Just hold on, don't use the gabapentin, the withdrawal from it is 1000x times worse than subutex (it will help though). Weed is the best imo for opiate withdrawal if you can't get benzos.

Oh lord, Sub withdrawal. Used subs for only 4 months to get off an oxy habit a few years back. Decided I was ready get off with no desire to use. Tapered down from 8mg a day to .5 over 3 weeks. No problem. Day 2 of quitting completely; anxiety, can't sleep, legs hurt like a bitch, runny shits, etc. I simply smoked (never smoked before) weed while taking 1.5mg Klonopin 30 minutes before, used Imodium, wrapped those bengay heat patches to my leg, and watched netflix for a month. Worst month of my life. Finally slept normally on week 3 and the anxiety lifted after 1.5 months. Was prescribed adderall at the time but refused to use it. 2 months later I was crystal clear and felt wonderful. Just rememer that you will get back to normal. My advice would be to get the bengay patches and simply smoke, no need to supplement one addiction for another. When you come out at baseline you will be so proud of yourself and feel accomplished. As for sleep, I would try using Diphenydramine anywhere from 75mg-120mg from the beginning and it DID NOT help besides make me groggy. Good luck buddy, you WILL make it and feel good.

PS- You may be a good candidate for SSRI treatment. Forgot to mention I was taking Celexa (Citalopram Hbr-40mg) daily. You can seek out a family doctor for that. Though it does take time to kick in. Do some research and see if it's something that may benefit you in the long run. Of course, as in all drugs, it comes with its side-effects.
