Stimulants 18mg Concerta questions

So I was just prescribed this today and I took 1 about 3 hours ago. Not feeling much now, but I felt somewhat more focused than usual.

Is a dose of 18mg too low? I was planning to take 18mg tomorrow morning and see how it goes. If it doesn't improve my ADD, I'll try another
18mg. But i'm worried what my doctor will say if I take more than what he recommended. If it does improve my ADD should I let him know I
took more than what was prescribed? For YOUR ADD, what medication works best for you??

Also, I have sleep problems. This Dr. refused to prescribe me any sleeping pills this time because he wanted to see how the concerta alone affects me first.
If you have sleep problems and are on concerta, how do you deal with it? What meds are you taking?
I'm not tired nor am I wide awake, but I can't imagine sleeping on this stuff...(I don't need to wake up early, so tonight is okay to take it this late)
Should I ask for ritalin instead since it kicks in faster and doesn't last all night? ..should I up the dose...switch to something else??

How about you wait for a week or so, take your medication as prescribed, and see how you feel?

Different people respond differently to drugs. Nobody can answer most of your questions. The best option is to be honest with your doctor, and contact him/her if you have problems with your Concerta.
