I was just reading a report on erowid about how 1,4-Butanediol was used as an antidepressant and it worked really well for the guy.

I'm not looking to abuse the stuff, but after reading about it a lot, and realizing how careful I have to be with dosing and such, which I will do, I'm wondering if this will be able to provide me with some help sleeping.

Can anyone attest to 1,4-Butanediol working well to help you fall asleep? Without having to take an OD, lol.

I have one of the worst cases of insomnia, and even now that I have finally found a medication that works for me, I find myself used to staying up all night (since it's been like this for basically my whole life) and I end up staying up even when I'm tired, although insomnia prevails all the time as well. I will go 2 days without sleep, then sleep for 12-18hrs straight, get up and do the same routine again. It's really screwed up my life a lot, so I'm wondering if this will help.

Any comments welcome.

I don't really think the issue are the drugs' effectiveness itself since you already attested to the fact you found a medication that works for you. I'm going through the same shit, I don't have medication that works for me but if I take a ridiculous dose it should do the job. Do you take the pills and stay up? That could indicate more of a desire to get high than sleep and/or just being so acclimated to insomnia to the point where sleeping seems alien and something to be avoided. Or do you just avoid pills altogether?

No, because even if for short-term it makes you feel good and sleep well, it is very addictive and in the long term you'll find yourself waking up every 2 hours, shaking, sweating, and feeling like you're about to have a heart attack, which makes it absolutely necessary to redose.

And FYI, 1,4-b is the exact same as GBL and GHB except that it is probably more toxic and definitely more irritating to the GI lining.

Yea its a terrible choice for sleep. No doubt that it will help induce sleep, but as Jamshyd said, it will wreak havoc on your ability to STAY asleep due to the rebound effect that occurs several hours after you take it.

There are way better options out there for you. Have you tried any of the hypnotic benzos? It's pretty rare for someone to not respond to a decent dose of a hypnotic benzo. Of course you will end up addicted to those as well if u depend on them nightly for sleep, but at least they wont have you snapping out of sleep at 2 hour intervals like 1,4 would.-DG

I wake up 2 hours after falling asleep on restoril when the insomnia hits. Tolerance will definitely shorten length.

Still, I don't think any of this matters if you've already found an effective sleeping pill. Maybe you're asking for knockouts, which is also asking for serious trouble. Sleeping pills (and/or aids) are meant to work when you lie down and close your eyes. That's all you have to do.

I'm already on 3mgs of klonopin a day, I've been taking benzo's for over 7 years now my tolerance is very high. I've taken 60mgs+ of klonopin, with like a few shots of alcohol and felt nothing before. Benzo's wont work for me.

I've tried every benzo possible as well, even ones not available in my country so they aren't going to work.

I usually don't even take my meds to help me sleep but even if I do, sometimes I'll stay awake through it just because I want to not sleep... I can't force my mind to want to sleep, it just doesn't work. I don't have a need to 'get high' whatsoever, I just want something to relax me and help me want to actually lay down and try to sleep.
