US Politics the 2025 trump presidency thread

Don't fall into the trap of becoming an echochamber.

By all means make clear the threat - but then move on to find the solution.

Apparently in LA people are throwing glitterbombs over ICE agents. The agents complain that they cannot get the glitter off even after changing clothing and bathing. Apparently they can be identified as ICE for several days.

I'm sure a solution will be found, but it's amazing how powerful a large group can be without resorting to violence.
just in time for pride

I still want evidence of this automatic one sided racism that is happening to white south Africans. Not like it is hard to nail a racist policy of his down -- but I feel like skin color is the ONLY DEPENDANT VARIABLE here?

combined with the black predilection for violent outbursts that is not a great mix.

Dude, you make some really good points that I absolutely agree with. But when shit like that ^ comes out of your mouth… it makes me want to kick myself for agreeing with you. And that sucks.
My sister in law is South African/South American (Guyana). She’s black. My niece and nephew are white/black. The way they’re treated by adults, let alone some kids where we live, makes me fucking sick. It’s not difficult to understand why though, sadly.

I think Donald Trump is a ginormous piece of human garbage. The vile shit that comes out of that pile of shits mouth makes me want to rip my ears off and poke out my eyeballs. He’s an arrogant, obnoxious, hypocritical, dangerous, unstable tyrant that peddles racism. He knows what he’s doing. He’s fully aware of who his audience is.

Whether you’re in the US, UK, EU, or Canada… my thought is that we’re in over our heads. I feel like that should just be obvious to everyone at this point. How do we unfuck ourselves? No idea. Allowing unvetted immigrants to pour into your country isn’t it. What Trump is doing isn’t it either.

all of the focus on immigrants is simply a distraction

why are we punishing immigrants instead of the companies we claim hire them to undercut local workers? how does that make any sense?

punishing the immigrants instead of the companies means the companies can just keep going on exploiting more people including immigrants and citizens

if you want to help every day workers then punish the companies doing the exploitation. but nobody is interested in an actual solution because that would mean punishing the rich people who are actually in control

those who pay your salary, those who own all of the buildings and set the rent, they're the ones with actual power and they get workers to fight amongst themselves instead of seeing who actually has the power

don't fight over the crumbs that the powerful give you permission to fight over, why do we need their permission?

we know who is sitting on piles of cash while telling us that things can never be better, we know who sits on ownership of most of the real estate who tells us its immigrants and trans people that are making our lives harder

well immigrants and trans people don't set rent or pay my salary, I know who does though and I'm not falling for their bullshit

blaming immigrants just takes agency and blame away from the people and corporations that are doing the actual harm. we don't need to be concerned about quarterly profits, I'm more concerned about people having housing, food, and healthcare

or we can just keep yelling at immigrants while the people in power buy 6 more yachts and take away our rights

It's certainly the case that the very wealthy are buying up more and more media outlets and social media platforms in spite of the fact that in many cases, they can't even run them at a profit. Murdoch isn't making much out of all the newspapers he owns, I doubt Twitter and Truth Media are anything but money-pits. But they do allow for a handful of people decide what is newsworthy.

I can't speak of anywhere else but in the UK there is something like £46.8 billion of taxes were not paid last year. Not avoided, not queried, just not paid. Now I find it odd that theft on such a vast scale hasn't seemed worth even a single line of copy in most media outlets while refugees apparently cost something like £4.3 billion last year... but which one is in the news every single day?

But if people are dumb enough to make no effort whatsoever to know where our taxes go, it's hard to know what to say. But feel free to check my figures.

Evidently you CAN lie to the majority of the people for the majority of the time.

The good news is that the cracks in the MAGA foundation are deepening.
I just saw an example of that with someone who voted trump. His brother's son in the military is stationed over in that area. And Iran takes hostages and shit. They bomb US ships. So there is worry there now. May look good today but history shows a fallout every time.

But I know nothing about nothing in these complex situations. I do not have too though. The only bomb I would throw is a peace bomb. Logically we can see this is not going to create peace in the middle east. And if it does I would applaud. To applaud now is silly and everyone knows that. You can see it in all eyes reporting this regardless news outfit. Hopefully some people over there in the military stay safe. But I get the worry. This could be bad for some people.

the Wizard is ultimately exposed as being a fraud and essentially powerless.

Nobody is saying either side is great. But even accepting your premise it would still be illogical not to choose the option that does less damage. And there's just no way you can argue Trump was that option lol.

Trump has nothing to do with anything but being a puppet. The Wizard of Oz "behind the curtain" controls everything. As I said go down the rabbit hole. Nothing is what you've been told. NOTHING.

who's telling him what to do? please provide evidence to substantiate your claim.

thank you.

alasdair

I don't think Trump is a pawn. If one insists on using a chess analogy, he IS the king.

But let us not forget that as a piece, a king essentially needs every other piece to defend them.

I can well believe that others are suggesting things to Donald Trump who, whatever else, is never shy of taking credit for everything and only if at some future point when it doesn't work out does he then assert that in fact it was someone else's idea, he always knew they were weak/stupid/crooked (delete as applicable) and fire them. Just as in chess one may sacrifice a piece to protect the king.

I didn’t blame anyone and I don’t blame anyone for trying to move elsewhere in this world.. especially if they’re fleeing for their lives.
I’m not against immigration… not in the slightest. I see how important immigrants are and how they bring value to our countries.

If me and my child had to flee for our lives so that we could have a better life, you better believe I’d go whatever country was willing to take us.
I’d be grateful to the country that took us in. I think most people would.

However, I don’t agree that any country should have to suffer due to MASS immigration - legal or illegal - especially when a large portion of said immigrants come from countries that march around cities screaming “death to America” and other lovely things like that. How is that okay? I’ll answer for you.. it’s not.

I didn’t say anything about trans people.

I still think we’re in over our heads. I don’t believe that’s going to change any time soon.

I think that you're coming at this issue from a very American perspective. are you aware of the impact of American foreign policy on south america and the middle east? do you understand that we regularly kill members of people's families in those regions?

America destabilizes the regions which produce the most migrants, America is literally the cause of the migration but is unwilling to change it's foreign policy approach while whining about the immigrants it creates

perhaps you'd do well to listen to the words of the people in those regions instead of what the reporters tell you to think about them
