2024 US Presidential Election

Hmm.... coincidentally made this statement right after DOJ said Trump media group is backed by Russian money. Mind games probably.

@ions if you consistently feel there is not a choice with the Dems and Repubs, not even a lesser of evils choice, you should put much of your energy into changing the Electoral College. It would be less of a tilting at windmills thing.

Yet still quixotic in it's endeavor
:) Quite a bit less so. One is unlikely, yes, but the other is basically impossible.
A huge majority of Americans do not support the Electoral College, but since the Electoral College works against majority rule, what's a mother to do? Still the number of people disgusted with it is growing and there's always the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

To get slightly wonky. Did you know that the winner take all system of apportioning electoral votes is not in the Constitution and is not even still practiced by 2 states? The founding fathers actually intended for us to appoint electors by district. States could even appoint electors proportionately to the popular vote in the state, which would basically then be a nationwide popular vote if all states did it.

However, there's still that pesky Article 2 Section 1...

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors

They could flip a freaking coin, actually.

Is that okay, or not okay?

It is perfectly OK with me.
My answer is one of proportion and perspective.
If I had a good friend who drank 4 liters of Pepsi every day, I would be concerned. If that same friend also smoked cigarettes, drank 2 liters of vodka, and injected street drugs with dirty needles every day, then the Pepsi consumption is of very low priority.

(edit) The example is purely fictitious. I could never be close friends with someone who prefers Pepsi over Coca Cola.

You still wouldn't say to that person that drinking that much pepsi is "perfectly ok" though.

While addressing the other issues? I sure would. We're not even gonna think about the Pepsi problem until the more serious ones are under control.
For the same reason I didn't worry about quitting smoking while I was detoxing from alcohol and/or other drugs of abuse.

There's a huge difference between:

"Let's focus on the more serious issues before we address the smaller ones"

And actively telling someone that a destructive habit is "perfectly okay".

So yes, let's focus on not letting Trump be president again. But also, let's not lie and say bad things about Kamala aren't bad.

To use a different analogy...

Wind turbines kill about 250,000 birds annually.
Poison kills about 70,000,000.
Vehicles and collisions with windows and power liness kill a lot more.
Cats kill about 2.4 BILLION birds annually.

I like birds. How concerned should I be about wind turbines?

Isn't the more pertinent question: if there was an easy way to decrease bird fatalities caused by wind turbines, shouldn't we do it?

Which should I do first-- jump out of the way of the speeding freight train or swat the mosquito on my arm?
