Immigration discussion

Split off from the Israel thread.

Please let us all play nice here...
point was not to start immigration conversation but solely to figure Israel-Palestine-situation

e: Actually yeah it is my mistake, should have not made open-ended question without explaining context, had I wanted to keep the post there, now it easily just breaks to conversation, which actually happened. And it is not relevant anyway at this point anymore I guess.

All good though, this is worthy of discussion nonetheless ✌️

BTW is this focused on the USA immigration or global immigration such as the UK border PROBLEMS? I would be interested in hearing people's opinion on the whole Rwanda plan and if they think it will change anything? Me personally I am skeptical but this country has gone to the dogs so on the bright side we can't go down anymore we can only go up we are still recovering from covid (which was probably made worse by the immigration crisis but no one ever talks about that)

Also the juicy irony of conservatives saying Trump's fraud is a "victimless crime". The banks were certainly victimized.

But when it comes to forgiving student loan debt, they're all standing with the banks and defending their interests.

I generally only bother to vote in local/state elections.

but the whole US has been a melting pot of multiculturalism since it's inception. Only severely undereducated rednecks and delusional white supremacists would say otherwise.

Only rural folk who have never left their bumfuck town out in the boonies would think the USA isn't a huge melting pot of cultures and races.

Mass 3rd world immigration is fairly recent actually

It's pretty sick that white liberals actually vote for it, crave it

In Canada? sure...

The US? Take a history lesson.

There are over 150 million non white naturalized immigrants in the US. Over 3x the entire Canadian population.
Again, still pretty recent. The white population was nearly 90% in 1960.

Ok, now explain to me why that's inherently a bad thing, or how it has hindered the US from flourishing as a country.

The implication of the question remains.
Flourish? Are you saying the average American is better off in 2024 than they were in 1960?

You're turning into Brazil. Or worse.

Average Americans are getting paid less and less each year while CEOs make more and more. I don't think the CEOs are immigrants
the #1 problem with this country is it has become a defacto corporatocracy

Politicians are legally bought. Bribery was legalized.

this country really is operated by a shadow class of ultra wealthy people

I've never looked at an immigrant and thought "this person is making my life more difficult". That's what the politicians WANT you to think... any sort of stress they cause on the system is ultimately caused by corrupt policy.

We could lower our military spending by 10% and instantly end homelessness, hunger, free healthcare, everything.

or corporations could lower their profits by 10% and easily pay everyone $20 minimum wage.

they WANT you to think your problems are caused by immigrants, but they are most definitely not.

False consciousness.

I actually had a history lesson today. Went to Albany and wife became a US citizen. She is Canadian. And even though most people in the US don't think of Canada as a different country, it is and needs proper paperwork. She is worried trump might get in and kick out everyone that is not a citizen. lol (yeah I know, but people find things to worry about) I told her she would be the poster child for the right of who they let into the country. A white Canadian woman. :) But she feel better now. Cost about $800 for this part of the process.

Immigrating to Canada for me and the USA for my wife has probably totaled over $5000 +. We did things correctly. And it was tough. But I have to say if ANYONE should be mad at illegals it should be me, yet I am not. They are human beings. Earthlings. No I do not like when a system is taken advantage of and abused. I wonder where my lack of anger comes from. I find it hard to be a victim in any aspect. Maybe that is why. Hard to point my finger out to anyone or anything as the cause of any of my grievances. But we know a lot of people LOVE being victims. They get to complain.

But we all know some of the richer republicans (as well as dems) hire illegals to save money. So the hypocrisy is astounding.

Despite the above post being excellent in its entirety, this comment is superb.

The US achieved a genuine level of excellence across the mid 20th C that it not only managed to distract most from its destruction of democratically elected regimes in Latin America, it ensured that no one even cared to this very day. Notwithstanding the disgusting behaviour of the Dulles brothers and the wider intelligence agencies, the progress made with respect to civil rights while far from comprehensive, was still significant enough that it has taken 60 odd years to drag the Republic backwards to its current status. You took us to the fucking Moon, the effort led by Texas and Florida and since then it has taken a lot of effort to deny the very essence of science.

Of course, the only card the GOP has left to play is the pleasure it gives people by making certain folk (women and black people largely) suffer. The Dems are too fucking useless to do anything but try and play the middle which many deny the existence of.

At least your not the UK. Its our fault that the world is as fucked as it is. We are just too broke and irrelevant to even form part of the conversation.

People always blame immigrants and the poor when it's people like trump who are the real enemy. Most immigrants i know here in Canada come here and work but they always get blamed for everything. Same as the people who bash people fleeing war. If i was in Mexico or some other country with kids i would do what ever was possible to give them a chance at a better life, most would
