There is no doubt Russia, well, Putin is guilty of the current situation and he started this agresión on february. There is no one to blame but him. Shame on him.
But I don't think is fair to say the war started on february, there is a lot of shit, suffering and death in both sides from 2014.
I mean we should feel for every victim from the very first one in the Maidan (not a heroic revolution, but a tragedy). Before and after Maidan both sides, and NATO too, have been playing very dirty games. And waiting for the best moment to fuck each other and kill people.

Some people in Dombass wanna be russians because they are russians, some people wanna be ukrainian because that's what they are. Don't let none of the sides tell you otherwise.

Comunism fucked both countries big time, then, when they thought shit was over, here comes patriotism to fuck them for good.

I don,t really know about their quality of life, both are such extremely corrupt countries, and their average income and life expectancy are quite similar, but Ukr. has become more liberal during last years and it counts as qlty of life also.
If I were to choose, I'd yo for Ukraine.
Don't fancy live in any of both places, tho.
No under Putin, no under the ukrainian political and financial elites.

The fact that it has been so difficult for Russian troops to take over area they already controlled shows that this is not some regime change forced by the west Ukrainians dont want to be a part of Russia and why would they their quality of life is so much better since becoming independent from Russia they are finding washing machines in downed helicopters and abandoned trenches.
