Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

If we could all come together and attack the mental health issues our youth are facing, maybe we canget somewhere.
One of the big issues here is that the people your side keeps voting for have historically, overwhelmingly and continuously voted no for improving mental health and social services which would help prevent these attacks.

It would be a great start if Republicans could start actually helping people.

The modern liberal isn’t able to see this, all they know Is what the TV and Twitter says, it’s the marching orders they blindly follow.
Where do you get your information from? Enlighten us with the source of real knowledge!

I generally just believe the opposite of w/e the TV is saying is true. Served me well so far tbh

he shot his grandmother in the face, so she cant even talk

did i ever tell you about the guy i had to xray who shot himself in the face and lived? they had to reconstruct his face - it was a fucked up sight to see - they had to make him new eye holes and everything

and then the guy who threw himself in front of a train and lived - there was a piece of skin holding his arm still on his body, and i had to make sure i didn't rip that skin or they had to fill out a whole bunch of new paperwork

and then ya got my kid over here, who turns pale just from the site of a drop of blood

I've spent time in ER/Trauma Imaging rooms, shadowing workflow for R & D work to try and get images available to clinicians in a timely manner, but I never "lived" there.
My hat is off to you sir ...

Thank you for your service <3

The uninitiated have no idea the horror that imaging techs go through for their "brother man" on a regular basis.

but what you people don't understand

who are "you people"?

Also feel it is sooooo sad when a tragedy like this happens and all the anti-gun people use it to advance their agenda.

for context, you don't think the pro gun lobby uses incidents like this to advance their agenda?

a good guy with a gun...
the answer is more guns...
etc.

If we could all come together

do you feel that your comments in this thread are the kind of thing that will unite people?

alasdair

Liberals always blame this on the gun lobby. This is bc the DNC/establishment are experts in language, and have read rules for radicals. They know that blaming gun owners is a losing endeavor. Not sure how it is other places, but here in the south most of my liberal friends are better armed than I am. Liberals own and like guns, and here they know why they are protected by the constitution. Its very unpopular to propose regulation with the majority of the population. The NRA is not supported by many, including myself. I give to gun owner of America bc they are less wavering. The gun industry has just as much right as any other industry to lobby. Personally I think no for profit industries should be allowed to lobby, and this is a belief held by most.

Do you or anyone remember the kid who shot himself in the face with his friend in a suicide pact and then lived?
my memory is from him being in court because they blamed rock music for the attempt and sued a band
I still have that image in my head it’s like a cartoon image I wonder if that’s a coping mechanism or if it really looked that way
I kind of want to Google it but don’t want to traumatize myself again
i have a lot of photographic memories of shit I was far too young to see in my head
my parents weren’t really too good at the parental controls

off topic
I went to Google it so because I wanted to know the band and if my little kids memories were accurate, also how young I was at the time so I typed in “kid sues” and this came up and I just had to click it..
the world is going to shit
im glad I’m not a teenager now because i Know we were not this dumb when I was a teenager

I listened to NPR for many years. I havent listened since like 2017. Drunpf basically made them have to go mask off with the impartial larp they did for a long time. They pushed the Russia conspiracy very hard, to the point where they had Russia updates on the hour for two years. Im sure state media is going full press on the establishments gun agenda right now. Had to remind my sister that rights are very easy to give up, but nearly impossible to get back.

A gas-station shootout in Houston took an unexpected turn after a woman trying to flee the scene hit and killed a man who was allegedly trying to rob someone else, according to local police.

On Thursday afternoon, a man approached someone at a Chevron gas station who was selling hair extensions and tried to rob him, according to news station KTRK. The man selling extensions grabbed his gun and a shootout started.

"The suspect ran through the parking lot. There was a female that was in her car, and I believe she had a child in the car," Houston Police Department Lieutenant Larry Crowson told KTRK. "She was extremely scared. She accelerated at a high rate of speed to get out of the parking lot and avoid the shootout. She struck the suspect, and he's under the car here behind me."

The suspect died at the scene.

I was so happy to leave Houston last year. Minor shootouts between ghetto folks like that happen just about daily there. If they didn’t have guns they’d be stabbing each other with whatever sharp objects they could find, trust me. Politicians don’t seem to care about addressing poverty though so, oh well…

Major metro-areas like that are cesspools, in any country. I don’t know how anyone could live in someplace like London or New York and not carry a defensive device of some sort. I’m going to Chicago later this summer and I’m rather pissed off that Illinois doesn’t have LTC reciprocity with my state so I can’t bring anything with me. Even just for a few days… it scares me to visit shithole cities like Houston or New York or Chicago.

Yea and im very upset about it because ive always lived in or near big cities and i love the big city action and they're just not what they used to be - they created such a divide between the haves and have-nots it's absurd

This story destroys all the BS that people have been saying:

^Idk if it 'destroys' what people have been talking about; I do think it's positive news that should be shared and hasn't been because, *Sigh* the 'mainstream media' is too caught up choking on it's "We want to disarm citizens" agenda. Which is just fucking sad.

I learned a new internet term today, Fudd; as in Elmer Fudd. People who only own hunting rifles and therefore claim authority as 'gun owners' to say, "No one needs a semi-automatic weapon! Except the police so they can murder me unopposed!"

I think I saw some quote where Biden said in 2012-13ish that, "All anyone needs is a double barrel shotgun; you go out and shoot two blasts and that scares off anyone." Yeah Joe, except for the militarized police force knocking at my door. Or the three intruders vs just one or two. But sure, yeah... no one would ever need a semi-auto weapon.

It is a damned shame. Really, cities have always been cesspools and a source of social angst, but God I literally feel uneasy as hell when in downtown Houston the last few years. I used to enjoy going to concerts or bars or museums in the cultural district but it's pretty much right next door to their equivalent of skid row now. And it really is about the haves and the have-nots, I mean... You've literally got mansions with electric fences erected right next to straight up run down hood houses. It's been bad like that in Houston for a while but the gentrification coupled with the neglect of the working man has created a really, really, really angsty city there.

I wish there was a way to quantify the lives saved by guns….I wonder what that would look like agains lives lost (not including suicide)
I doubt it would be too significant. There are rare instances where citizens do stop mass killers but they’re certainly less common. A lot of people don’t every day carry for that matter. I didn’t until I had a revolver I felt was finally small and light enough to easily conceal, I ain’t tryna show I have a weapon anywhere.

I really wish gun control lobbyists would leave out suicides though. Suicide is a right… we’re fucking humans if we wana kill ourselves it ain’t nobody’s business to stop us. Including suicide in the picture is intentionally done to skew things and I don’t appreciate it.
