Wars, Invasions, & Imperialism Thread v. Ukraine & Russia

Reports of casualties are starting to be released by the Russian defense ministry.
Russians have lost around 500 soldiers.
Ukraine has lost 2870 men.
The Ukrainian government claims 7000 Russians have been killed in action. 😂😂😂

The Ukraine government forcefully conscripted and armed their own citizens, and now they complain that the Russian army is firing on civilians. This is exactly what they wanted to happen.

that's not a war crime

you come on my property looking for a fight - you die

well if you're outnumbered and being invaded, how do you have time for POWs?
Yeah idk. If I was following "rules" I'd lock them all up in local prisons and have civilians give them just enough food to not die, but I'd probably be a war criminal anyways so it wouldn't get to that, I'd just execute them all.

yea they even released their own prisoners - they couldn't watch them anymore so what else can you do? can't leave them there right?

so either you kill the Russians or you make them run back in just their underwear

they're over there using bombs that theyre not supposed to, killing civilians, but they're gonna call foul on dead Russian soldiers?

the Russian propaganda is ridiculous and some people buy into it - but they're on the outside

we all know who is in whose country - it really just comes down to that and that only - doesn't matter what else is said

Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces in southern city of Mykolaiv

Ukrainian forces captured several Russian troops on Wednesday in the southern city of Mykolaiv, where fierce fighting broke out in recent days, according to the region's governor and a member of Ukraine's Parliament pictured with the captured soldiers.

Roman Kostenko, a lawmaker and secretary of the Parliament’s Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, told CNN that a reconnaissance unit of the Russian GRU’s 10th brigade had been intercepted on the outskirts of Mykolaiv.

“We encircled them and they gave themselves up. They are with the SBU," he said, referring to the Ukrainian security services. He said one of the five Russian soldiers had died, one was taken straight to hospital and three were alive.

CNN cannot independently verify the circumstances of the capture or the status of the prisoners. CNN has observed clashes in the past days as Russian troops tried to enter the city.

“They are attacking Mykolaiv occasionally, but the fight is on the outskirts and they try to go around us to close the loop on us," Kostenko said.

Mykolaiv is close to the Black Sea, located about an hour away from Kherson, a strategically important city that has seen heavy fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops this week.

Russian soldier calls home: One of the captured Russian soldiers was filmed while being allowed to call his mother on the telephone, according to a video posted on Telegram by the region's governor, Vitaliy Kim.

"Don’t worry, I am okay," the soldier told his mother.

A Ukrainian soldier took over the call and said, "You know what your son does? He fights and kills our civilians."

The Russian soldier added, "Mom, I am a prisoner. And, basically, Mom, go to the military registration and enlistment office and start getting together the Council of Soldiers' Mothers so that they would get our people out of here, those who are fighting in Ukraine."

The Ukrainian soldier added, "We will not touch him because I am half Russian and Ukrainian."

So now President Zelenskyy is now hiding in a bunker and should be ashamed because he had a career as a comedian? He was offered evacuation by the US government and said “the fight is here” and that he needed anti-tank ammunition, “not a ride.”
This stuff just reeks of Trump supporter rhetoric. Everyone is always hiding in a bunker. It is classic projection. The only one who we know for a fact was in a bunker was Donald Trump. He spent the night in a bunker when peaceful protestors had paper signs out in front of the White House. Ever since that incident he has been accusing everyone of hiding in a bunker. He must feel really embarrassed. He also was in numerous television commercials and movie cameos, he just wasn’t funny. Does that make it less shameful?
The way Trump supporters are taking up the mantle of pro-Russia rhetoric just because he has made this his next order and they carrying it out is disturbing and disgusting. First he withholds aid to Ukraine and now he is making his foot soldiers malign decent men and women who are acting in bravery. While he is a coward. Who acts only in self interest.
I will never understand the lack of empathy and critical thinking it takes to look at this situation and feel nothing. To have no doubts about your allegiance to this man who has done nothing but be out for himself his whole life. When even Russians are risking their freedom to protest against Putin. When Russian soldiers are surrendering, and sabotaging their vehicles rather then fight. All of that and we have people here who can be so devoid of compassion and self awareness. They think they know better then the whole world. What ignorance and arrogance.

well when your city is being bombed, it's a good idea to be in a bunker until it quiets down a little

some people are just eating up the Russian propaganda.....go ahead and eat it

but i'll tell ya what - i don't remember any of the Republicans in the 80s being pro-moscow

in fact, i don't remember ANY Americans being pro-moscow

part of wars nowadays are information wars - they're a big part of it now - people need to be aware of that

While I have to admit, the content in this thread is worryingly vile in a quite spectacular way this one here, allone, is a real fucking charmer. I really do not have any relevance in the world that I see around me now. This is what passes for 'legitimate discussion' in this day and age and notwithstanding Bluelights vigilance regarding members adherence to the BLUA I am sure old Ally boy here will be sharing even more lie affirming pearls of wisdom once out of the sin bin....

what are you even saying buddy. are you going to argue COVID did not come out of China??

He was just saying that your posts in this thread have been vile. Morally repugnant, nasty, filled with ignorance, displaying only base hatred, and so on. That help?

Does the Ukraine exodus reveal a ‘shocking distinction’ on refugees in some parts of the EU?
When the dust settles, Hungary, Poland and Romania will be forced to explain why they immediately let in Ukrainians and not Africans and Arabs to their NATO "allies."

Commission readies sanctions against the Visegrad Four
The Visegrad group has in the past narrowly avoided sanctions from the European Union over refusal to let in non-European "asylum seekers."
The main reason the EU has drawn them up but changed their mind last minute is that the US and Brussels are afraid of countries like Hungary defecting to the Russian sphere in response.
Now that these countries have totally burned their bridges to Russia, they may become more dependent on the US and EU and lose all their leverage when defending their national interests.

so you're ok with them bombing a city in another country to fight the imaginary nazis that are actually Jewish but they sold out to the nazis
Well i'm not going to lose any sleep over it I can tell you that much. nor try capitalilise on it ( that is the shameful part on zelensky's part). It was a fucking memorial (monument) and nothing more. Personally i'm so sick of this reverence re: WW2 and the Nazis. But the holocaust is also milked for all it is worth in the interests of political expendiency. I honestly highly doubt that the exact coordinates of that memorial were specifically given to the operators that fired that missile. But as with all things such (the truth and details) will be revealed at some time in the future i'm sure. It always happens. Look how long it took for factual information to surface re; that jetliner that the Soviets shot down.

i just read through said member's posts on this thread and i'm not seeing the ioffending issues as noted. and as for filled with ignorance; I could say the same about most here i.e. unless i'm unaware of something there is nobody on this thread that's in the thick of things and can only base their judgments and opinions on what they're being fed my the media. if the media is lacking or biased; members cannot and should not be held accountable for the media's shortcomings. And very seldom does @JGrimez simply shoot from the hip in order to upset people or get a rise out of them . I am fairly confident that the moment members see that he has posted there is a default negative kneejerk reaction (due to that ridiculous bet that most if not all are only to aware of)but if some bother to actually read and follow the 9(his0thought process most times if's pretty much on the mark and he has gone to a fair amount of trouble to explain his analysis and posts and more often than not provides the basis for such posts. if nothing else i'm pretty sure he bothers to do a bit of research and reading before posting which clearly most could not be arsed with.

speaking of ignorance; you don't think for a minute that his refusal to get a ride out of Dodge and to stay and fight had some ulterior motive? imagine what his electorate would have had to say had he accepted i.e. simply upped and left and leave the mess to them to deal with on their own. let's see what happens if it gets "hotter" there i.e. wouldn't surprise me in the least if he changes his mind but if he does that he will for sure become unemployed and unemployable in the future.
