Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

You have no idea how many German documentaries about WW2 there are :ROFLMAO: Honestly, History in school was WW2 for 4 years.

You should absolutely visit a concentration camp, if you ever get the chance again after covid if you're that interested in WW2. It's an experience you can't shake for years, but it's so fucking interesting.

We had a school trip to Auschwitz, and they even showed us actual video footage recorded there, fucking gruesome stuff actually. Still, very much worth for the experience, especially if the subject interests you

Srsly read it, you will be surprised at how many little nuances you will find. Also it's a great read

i have a relative who's from Poland (through marriage), and her grandmother's old place in Poland has a hide-away where they helped hide some Jews back then

CNN finally made the leap forward to "Information everybody already knew nearly two years ago". Seeing DC and media now saying what "Right Wing Conspiracy Theorists" have been saying the whole time, means that Covid is over, time to move on.

now they're saying that??? you gotta be kidding me

when I was 10, my best friend at the time was Jewish. His grandmother was a survivor of the infamous Nazi Death March

there was a memorial and her whole story at the local Jewish Community Center where I played sports

Amazing woman, full of life and love. Always feeding me when I went over to their place :), I feel honored to have known her.

before we divert, can you answer my question? gatherings of how many people are banned? if anything, I was trying to understand your viewpoint, that is why I asked you to clarify

In Quebec it is 5-10 and they have been known to be pretty aggressive with sending police around to enforce.

As of now, in Ontario,

The new restrictions announced today also include:

  • Indoor dining at restaurants and bars closed.
  • Only outdoor dining, takeout, drive through and delivery permitted.
  • Social gathering limits reduced to five people indoors and 10 people outdoors.
  • Retail stores, malls and personal care services limited to 50 per cent capacity.
  • Saunas, steam rooms, and oxygen bars closed.
  • Capacity at weddings, funerals and religious services limited to 50 per cent capacity per room.
  • Outdoor services must have two-metre distancing between all attendees.
  • Employees must work remotely unless their work requires them to be on site.
  • Gyms and other indoor recreational sport facilities closed, except athletes training for the Olympics and Paralympics and certain professional and elite sports leagues.
  • Outdoor facilities are permitted but with a 50 per cent capacity limit on spectators.
  • Museums, galleries, zoos, science centres, historic sites, amusement parks, festivals and other attractions closed.
  • Outdoor establishments allowed with restrictions and capacity limits.
  • Indoor meeting and event spaces closed with limited exceptions, except those with outdoor spaces, which can operate with restrictions.

The new measures will come into effect on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 12:01 a.m.

So basically, back to lockdown, for everyone.

Teaching is going online after all, and parents are having a meltdown.

I do think you are overreacting to large gatherings being banned for a few weeks. It's really not that big of a deal in my opinion. Parties and concerts aren't that important in the end of things.

Vaccine mandates are another issue, I only agree with them for things like public service, police, healthcare workers, etc. Other than that, I do think it's questionable.
it's not just large gatherings being banned, it's shutting down society again, after a year that has decimated small businesses. and it's not just the unvaccinated affected, it's everyone.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, I already know that I wouldn't be able to

sorry if you somehow took my post as an insult

i didn't take it as a deliberate insult i just wish we could see eye to eye on this because the more this drags on, the more likely it is that the deaths caused by government intervention will outpace the deaths caused by the virus.

we're at the point where this madness should have ended already. South Africa, where Omicron originated, with half the amount of people vaccinated as here, already ended the restrictions and have gone back to normal. So why the fuck haven't we?

this was their bigger Holocaust memorial. I used to run and jump on it as a kid. Now as an adult... I feel horrible that I did that :(

any you would recommend? I don't mind reading English subtitles.
Die letzten Zeugen(the last witnesses) is pretty insane, it's about 3 Auschwitz survivors returning to Auschwitz for the first time.

Sheindis Tagebuch(*'s diary), if you can find it, also a survivor, but i think it's on youtube

Geboren in Auschwitz(Born in Auschwitz) is fucking weird, but also worth it i think

Der Teufel wohnt nebenan(The devil lives next door)

Johanna Langefeld, if you can find anything about her, she was high-ranking Totenkopf SS, in charge of a KZ for women

I can't remember the name of the Mengele documentary,
"Der Todesarzt" (the doctor of death) or something cringy like that,
but very interesting
I truly want to. It has some sort of gravity pulling me towards it, and I really can't explain why. There is something about it, compelling my soul, just to sit in silence and be there.

I've been to London and Paris a few times. I loved walking around the city and spotting old artillery damage on buildings, from ww2 that was intentionally never repaired. It was jaw dropping.
You should check out Berlin, there's also a lot of other cities that still have many many marks of the bombings. Especially lots of original Roman architecture was destroyed, that is so fucking sad.

The bombings were so unnecessary, Russia had already won the war.

When my dad was a kid, they would find bomb shells and shit like that in the forest, sometimes even possibly active ones, where they had to call the police.

It's insane how much got bombed

wow! that's pretty hardcore to show kids

and all these US conservatives freaking out about teaching children about our own history with slavery
lol I was looking at piles of dead bodies at 14 years old, school insisted.
ppl getting hung upside down, tortured, hands cut off, mass graves, getting burned, all of it

It's important to our government that we know

Right. That's probably infuriating. I haven't experienced any sort of lock down in my state since the very beginning of the pandemic.

It's fairly clear omicron is not really a major threat, and if anything might even possibly be a good thing.

I don't know. See, I get why people hate lock downs. However, I do not understand how people are plugging that into some grander conspiracy. Who the hell benefits from lockdowns? Nobody. The entire country suffers. The economy, psychologically, corporations. Everyone loses with lock downs... (other than Jeff Bezos.... why aren't there any conspiracies about him yet??)

So when they say they're doing it simply for public health reasons, I believe them and understand why, even if I disagree with it's necessity.

well, i asked you a couple of times to substantiate your claim @OpiateKiller - that i imply "in every reply" that "the vaccine is entirely safe" - by posting a couple of examples. you can't or won't so i think that says clearly that your claim is false.

i agree that it's probably not entirely malicious but to a large degree, government negligence has played a role in making us worse off.

we know that here in canada, where we have universal healthcare single payer system, the conservatives have repeatedly cut budgets and liberals have done nothing to fix the damage. to add to provincial gov't fuckery, the current federal government has artificially restricted our supply of doctors.

i have heard rumours that the NHS has similarly been subject to populist budget cutting, and ditto for Germany.. i don't know for sure the situation there but maybe someone from UK or Germany can chime in on this.

so yeah being asked to sacrifice in the pandemic when government fuckery has already screwed up the value of money and created a housing crisis... it's just too much to tolerate.

wow, I think America would benefit from some level of this

if kids are having sex at 14, they should probably also see what humanity is capable of

the most shocking thing they showed us in school was the Roots movie(s), in which, the most shocking scene is a black slave being whipped and psychologically broken, and even that was just a fictional movie, not the real thing (which was probably way worse than the movie!)

Wow that is fucking beautiful..
Where is that?
the JCC (Jewish Community Center) in Tucson, Arizona, USA

"A tall concrete column rises from the reflecting pool, a symbol of an advanced civilization. Yet it is shattered at its peak, as was Jewish society throughout Europe. Water weeps from a crack in the side and runs down into the pool. A life-giving force, water rejuvenates and sustains us, and this water flows outward to support Hebrew letters that spell, “There is hope for thy future.”

As these concrete letters appear to float without effort upon the surface of the water, we are reminded that despite the evil of the Nazis, some life and much spirit did survive, and hope remains strong. A memorial flame emerges from the quotation as if to punctuate this thought.

The large, bas-relief concrete wall displays abstract images of train tracks, gears of industry, the Star of David, a menorah, and the Hebrew words zachor (remember) and Y’srael.

This memorial by renowned stained glass artist Ami Shamir, is unique in its approach to Holocaust remembrance, touches the hearts and memories of all who see it. This will forever be one place on Earth where those who perished will be remembered."

That's nice relatives.
I'm not exaaactly sure how nice mine were.
My grandpa was too young, great grandpas died in the war,
but chances are they were only Wehrmacht,
and Wehrmacht knew as much as the general population, so nothing:
"The Jews, and Communists, and Christians, and Protestants were taken to "work camps"." cue contentration camp Theresienstadt

@snafu: Also great docus if you can find them. Theresienstadt, was like a concentration camp for show, that the public could visit, where the conditions would be super nice, and just a dandy lil work prison.

I always wondered what that word was describing, I've heard it so many times but it was never really explained to me.

Now I can't stop thinking about the average Republican voter... they may intend well, but deviously misled into accepting things they don't understand

The most shocking thing I saw because of my school was a baby getting gripped by the ankle and smashed against the wall until it was dead. But I was 18, and it was at Auschwitz, during our graduation trip.

Not exactly sure how positive it was for my development. I mean, I was quickly aware of what humans are, yeah.

O that's the place everyone mispronounces

very beautiful, thanks for the info. Arizona is a place i'd like to visit sooner or later just for the mountains

Wehrmacht? It means "Guard Force".. eh more like "Guard/Defend Power", tbh, German is complicated ^^ Streitmacht means Force
Wehrmacht were regular soldiers, they had no idea of the high-level nazi shit. The nazis masked everything they did very well towards the population, and only a very few people in the Wehrmacht were aware of what they were fighting for.
High-level knowledge was only for SS/SA and Abwehr(Defense, secret service sort of), and ofc the Gestapo knew

In a situation of war, every capable male(even children and old people) were automatically added to the Wehrmacht.

But I'm glad about that, because apparently you would murder people over essentially nothing. Yknow Hitler had a similar problem, funny enough. He had an issue with farting, which is also something billions of people do without any issues whatsoever, but how would it look if the Führer farted in public? He took some pills Morell gave him/made for him that made him stop farting. It's theorized that this caused such brain damage, that he went completely bananas.

I remember hearing something a while back about how Stalin would fart at his desk during meetings with Soviet officials and rustle papers around to try and conceal the noise lol. Just another farting dictator anecdote...

Yea FOX bad and CNN is a beacon of journalistic integrity…but we’re the crazy ones,…right

Pretty much all cable news sucks.
