Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

I'm not interested in learning the science. I'm not a science guy.
Lmao, ok then. We'll remember that when you're telling people, who actually care about the science and are worried for the future of peoples immune systems, to "follow the science".

Does anyone have any actual data on this?

What was the mortality of rate for athletes before COVID?

This athlete thing seems like speculation and hype to me.

I've been looking, will obviously post when I find it. What made me believe that there may be something here, is when I saw posts about how many more airline pilots died in 2021, which I also still need to research more. The other deaths in 2019 are on the page before, there wasn't only 1 in 2019.

According to actuaries (I know a lot of actuaries for some reason), accurate reports of death rates are delayed by approximately 2 years. This strikes me as wildly inefficient, but it is what it is.

Despite identifying myself as someone who "trusts" science I am very sceptical of everything that can be verified. Some things (like quantum physics) are beyond the layman. Simple numbers are not beyond me.

Don't believe that more pilots die because somebody on the internet says so. If you're not going to believe what scientists say, why believe what random people say?

There are always fluctuations in death rates. Perhaps more athletes died in 2021 than 2019. Perhaps more pilots died. But, I doubt the difference is significant.

But, I doubt the difference is significant.
We'll differ here. I look at it as "I'll entertain that the difference is significant, until I can mostly prove my suspicion is incorrect". We'll see how it all plays out. I would hope significant changes in numbers can't be hidden easily, so if there are huge changes, we'll find out.

The anti-vaxxers like the athlete thing because there is no data published about athlete deaths so it's difficult for us pro-vaxxers to disprove, but that doesn't make it credible.

It makes no sense that a significant number of athletes are dying when there is not a significant number of people dying in the general population. The latter I can prove, more or less. The former is just smoke and mirrors.

So you're a guilty until proven innocent guy?
No, not normally. When it comes to numbers related to Covid I guess now I am. Politicians, health experts, media, and other gov't beauracrats have constantly lied to, and misled us, for the past 2 years. So I'll now assume they're doing more of the same, until they aren't.

But what is the foundation of your suspicion?

I mean: why not assume that penguins can fly (but they chose not to) until someone proves otherwise by dropping them out of planes at various altitudes?

It seems as if the foundation of your suspicion is an unqualified opinion.

I don't think you're following what I'm saying.

If people lie to me that doesn't lead me to conclude something specific that they aren't telling me. I get that you don't trust them. I'm asking you why you trust whatever source you're getting your information (or suspicions) from?

What makes these unqualified people more qualified (or more trustworthy) than the qualified people that you distrust?

Does that make sense?

If I suspect significantly more athletes are dying this year, there has to be some reason I suspect this. The idea needs to come from somewhere. Hence, my point about penguins flying.

because, at the end of the day, this is a deadly virus that might evolve into something much more deadly. It took the Spanish Flu approximately 3000 years to emerge from influenza. I don't want thousands of years of death from COVID. I was (naively) hoping Omicron was a way out.

See that's your outlook - where are you getting that from? why do you think that's how it's gonna go?

virus 101 - as a virus becomes more transmissible it becomes less pathogenic

if it was that deadly, it would be like ebola - too deadly to get too far

that's not what's happening

and at this point, is it worth the possibility, which does in fact exist, of damaging your immune system for the millions of other jobs it needs to perform for 1 virus that more than likely won't kill you?

gambling on a vaccine just isn't worth it - and then once you start, when does it end? we don't know what happens to ppl who get these shots every 6 months for the rest of their lives...it could still be, that in a year from now, there's a huge increase of heart problems for all the ppl who've been quadruple vaxxed but not the triple vaxxed....that can very much happen - that's real

for me - it's just not worth the risk

i don't care if anybody thinks that's selfish either

you can twist it however you want to make it sound like im responsible for spreading disease

but it ain't me

A classic example of misuse of data to support an ideological agenda.

The above quotes the data collected on the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) which is indeed part of the Centre for Disease Control.

Should be solid right?

Well the CDC clearly states that:

Anyone can submit a report to VAERS — healthcare professionals, vaccine manufacturers, and the general public. VAERS welcomes all reports, regardless of seriousness, and regardless of how likely the vaccine may have been to have caused the adverse event.

So there is a strong likelihood if that anti-vaxxers are not spamming the database with fake data then tens of thousands of gullible under-educated and information-poor Americans are following anti-vax propaganda they read on social media and reporting everything from sun-burn to bee-stings.

And as anybody that has ever researched things like racism or sexism knows, the “data” ALWAYS shows huge increases in both once people become aware of a new opportunity to report alleged cases - giving a very false indication that real levels of both are increasing when in fact they’ve been declining for years.
True or not I'm not gonna lie the ops post was a chilling read but I'm gonna call bulshit because most of these conspiracy theories are specifically narrated to pull you in and make you go "it all makes sense down"

@Mr. Krinkle

The virus causes more heart problems in the short-term and there is no reason to assume there are unknown long-term effects from the vaccine but there aren't unknown long-term effects from the virus.

so by that logic, you're still better off not catching covid and not getting the shots
