Mental Health Doc added Wellbutrin to my treatment plan..what can I expect?

I’ve been on 30mg Lexapro and Seroquel 25-50mg for about a year now and since I’ve reached the maximum dosage for Lexapro, my doc decided to lower the current dosage so that I can begin taking Wellbutrin as well. I don’t know too much about Wellbutrin but I’m pretty hopeful. I believe she said that it works on the dopamine receptors as opposed to the Lexapro affecting serotonin. I’m just hoping this combination doesn’t make me too sick or make me zombie-ish.

Wellbutrin is essentially a mild stimulant.

Why are you taking it? Depression?

What's the seroquel for? At those doses it acts mainly as sleep aid with some mild mood stabilizing action.
 
If you smoke you might expect you cigarettes to begin tasting bad. Something to do with wellbutrin antagonizing Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. You may find you crave smoking less.

Yeah I’m taking it for depression/anxiety. And you’re correct, I’m only taking the Seroquel as a sleep aid (or when I need to come down).. I was told that I was lucky if I’d receive any mood stabilizing effects at such a low dose. I think initially when I was receiving in-patient care that I was being given a higher dose. I’m considering asking for it to be increased.

Ewww I was reading that Wellbutrin also functions as a smoking cessation aid. I don’t smoke cigarettes but I do like the little disposable vapes from the gas station. And I like a little tobacco in my blunts when I smoke weed. Might have to switch to papers.
 
I’m also wondering how taking Wellbutrin will effect my stimulant usage. I use stims (mainly meth) daily. I’ve heard of people in jail snorting Wellbutrin for a high. Also heard of guys mixing it with cocaine... don’t think I’ll be doing that! But I also don’t want to accidentally trigger a panic attack from mixing stims.

I'm gonna go ahead and state the obvious, in that if you are suffering with depression and anxiety, especially panic attacks, you should not be using meth daily. I am absolutely not judging you for doing so because lord knows I've done some really stupid shit with mixing psychiatric medication and recreational drugs, but if you are serious about getting relief from your symptoms and getting the best out of your psych medications, you should strongly consider quitting meth. You're doing all this good work by seeing a doctor for your mental health and taking medications as prescribed (which means you want to feel better), but then shooting yourself in the foot by using meth every day. Have you considered quitting meth?

Might make your meth a little dirtier feeling and less effective. I'd rather mix wellbutrin and cocaine than wellbutrin in meth. Wellbutrin is a reuptake inhibitor (like cocaine) so it can be mixed i suppose. I wouldn't mix wellbutrin with anything of course myself

Meth works in the a different fashion (its a releasing agent). This is why no one ever mixes cocaine in meth. They sort of counteract one another

It doesn't make the slightest difference. Bupropion is so mild that meth just completely overruns it. I speak from experience. I'm prescribed Wellbutrin (it's actually called Voxra here).
 
Wellbutrin is a mild NDRI (mostly norephinephrine). However, it significantly lowers the seizure threshold. So you are more susceptible to seizures. This is something to consider if someone prescribed this medication uses caffeine and/or nicotine, which are mild stimulants. However, if you're using methamphetamine, you have a much higher risk of suffering a seizure if you add Wellbutrin into the mix. Seizures can cause one to bite of their tongue off, drowning in blood, or snap one's neck, or become incapacitated while operating heavy machinery, leading to serious physical damage otherwise.

I think that this is a good sign that you posted. You can start your recovery this moment. Invest in yourself. Not a bad idea, huh? I say this seriously and with positive intent.
 
But I have been doing my thing today, like ALL day (small lines here and there).. along with a little weed and vodka. I even drank a Red Bull too at one point. I haven’t felt out of the ordinary in those regards.

I’ve been biting my nails like CRAZY though. I’ve been a nail biter since I was a kid, so that isn’t exactly new to me. But today I felt a super strong urge to do so. No matter how badly my fingers hurt or how dumb I probably looked around other people.
 
Update: Mood has been much better, so has my sleep. My sex drive has also increased!! But good grief, I’m gaining SO much weight! It’s like I’m always hungry. :( I haven’t been doing any meth lately and really haven’t had the urge. I’ll do a bit of cocaine every now and then but it’s really like “meh”. I also still have the urge to smoke.

Oh no..fucked it up how? For me, I’m super sleepy by 11-12. I have to drink Red Bull and/or do stims in order to stay up past that! I’ve always been a night owl so that is soooooo hard to get used to! For someone with the typical 9-5 job, I suppose that’s a good thing. But for me, it’s awfullllll.
 
If you throw in some daily naltrexone, Wellbutrin has been shown to reduce meth addiction in research trials. The same combination is supposed to offset the weight gain from anti-psychotics if you happen to have that problem. I think you said you take meth and seroquel and are gaining weight?

I don’t necessarily want to not do meth, but gosh the weight gain has got to stop. And it’s like I crave the worst foods! Today (well yesterday) I had tacos, cake, pasta, mashed potatoes, and hot dogs. At least when I’m doing meth, I only eat like once a day at the most. It sounds so superficial but I have a very small frame. The weight gain is super noticeable. I don’t want to have to go on a meth binge to be able to keep the weight off.

I gain weight on meth because I use seroquel to sleep regularly. Then I constantly crave cheap carbs to the point where I eat in my sleep judging by the evidence left in the kitchen. It’s only my fervent desire to trip that motivates me to lay of the seroquel as much as possible at the moment and my weight is already falling,
 
If anything Wellbutrin should suppress your appetite a little, not increase it. Seroquel, on the other hand has been known to cause massive munchies. That’s probably what’s doing it. If you were using meth before that was probably counteracting that effect.
