Trump says he will designate Antifa a terrorist organization as GOP points fingers at extremists

President Donald Trump said Sunday that he will designate Antifa as a terrorist organization after Democratic and Republican officials pointed to extremist groups and out of town demonstrators as responsible for violent episodes at protests in major cities across the country.

Trump and Attorney General William Barr had earlier pointed to anti-fascist organizers and anarchists as culprits behind the mayhem following the death of a 46-year-old black man, George Floyd, at the hands of Minneapolis police. Others said right-wing extremists such as Boogaloo followers, who hope to bring about a second Civil War, were pushing for such uprising in the protests.

In a Sunday statement, Barr said the Justice Department is taking aim at "apprehending and charging the violent radical agitators who have hijacked peaceful protest and are engaged in violations of federal law."

The attorney general said that "to identify criminal organizers and instigators," federal law enforcement officials are utilizing "our existing network of 56 regional FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces."

"Preventing reconciliation and driving us apart is the goal of these radical groups, and we cannot let them succeed," Barr added. "The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly."

There is no domestic terrorism statute and legal authority for the U.S. to designate any domestic organization as a terrorist group, as the Justice Department's domestic terrorism coordinator has said publicly on multiple occasions in recent years.

"As this tweet demonstrates, terrorism is an inherently political label, easily abused and misused," American Civil Liberties Union National Security Project Director Hina Shamsi said in response to Trump's post. "There is no legal authority for designating a domestic group. Any such designation would raise significant due process and First Amendment concerns."

The Trump administration also took aim at Antifa during the Sunday political talk shows. Speaking with CNN's "State of the Union," national security adviser Robert O'Brien said violence "is being driven by Antifa."

"And they did it in Seattle. They have done it in Portland. They have done it in Berkeley. This is a destructive force of radical — I don't even know if we want to call them leftists," O'Brien continued. "Whatever they are, they're — they're militants who are coming in and burning our cities, and we're going to get to the bottom of it."

Antifa, meaning "anti-fascist," is a coalition of protesters, left-wing activists and self-described anarchists who seek to physically confront and bring down what they deem as the far right. Trump and his administration have long targeted the group, which has made its presence felt at protests throughout his presidency.

...

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted the "big story" being missed is that in "city after city we have a rogues gallery of terrorists from Antifa to 'Boogaloo' groups encouraging & committing violence."

"They may not be ideologically compatible but share a hatred of govt & police & are taking advantage of the protests," Rubio, acting chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, added, saying the demonstrators "don't fit a simple left vs. right identity."

These individuals want to "tear the whole system down even if it requires a new civil war, Rubio said.

...

Speaking with NBC's "Meet the Press," Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, a Democrat, said he's become aware of "very suspicious" people taking part in the demonstrations through video recordings made at the protests.

"The truth is, nobody really knows," he said of who is responsible for the more violent activity. "I talked to people who were demonstrating, they say they think some of those folks are from Minnesota. And they also say some people have come from out of town. What the exact political motivation is unclear at this point. We need to investigate it."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., pointed to Walz's comments on out-of-towners in an interview with "This Week."

"Let’s have a look at what really is happening, who is making what, taking what actions," Pelosi said. "But we should not ignore the fact that there is a room for peaceful protests in all of this."

Also on "This Week," Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., said the large Floyd protests are happening because people "want bold and systematic change to take place, so that they can feel like their voices are heard."

"This is what happens when people are tired, just marching every single day, just to have their humanity be recognized," she said. "In Minneapolis, we have marched. We have protested. We have organized. And when we see people setting our buildings and our businesses ablaze, we know those are not people who are interested in protecting black lives."

This is big if it happens. Funding and supporting a terrorist org means the gov't can seize your assets (hello, Mr. Soros). It also goes against the conservative stance on protecting free speech, even when you disagree with it. On the other hand, ANTIFA has shown itself to be aimed at destroying the gov't and the country as it is today. By definition, that is a terrorist intent.

About time.

One reason I'm not super fond of Trump is that this should've been done 4 years ago. The way the legal system, media and police treat ANTIFA with kid gloves is conspiratorially surprising.
It's actually ANTIFA who violate the entire premise of free speech by claiming that "words = violence" and that a violent response is proportionate to someone verbalizing something that they don't like or consider harmful. That's the definition of terrorism.

Unfortunately I don't think this will do much to stop the Soros color revolution-inspired social chaos.
There are powerful interests who support and protect ANTIFA (check out the lawyers who miraculously pop up in the rare instances where their members are taken to court).

Let's trust this guy to get proper justice for George Floyd...
How was his state's record on brutality before this?

I picture it being like a motorcycle club setup. Like each city has a chapter president or something. Not sure how one would join, I guess you could see if they have a website or Facebook group?

cont...
See if Antifa were just a movement that turned up to our events peacefully protesting and waving their signs, 100% fine, I support that shit, in fact, I love that shit. But that is not what Antifa does. They assault people, throw bricks, threaten businesses, so many things.

You didn't do enough to remove violence from your movement, in fact, some of the leadership encouraged it. Listening to you all complaining about this is like listen to someone from Al-Qaeda saying "But we are the good guys".

If you want to speak and peacefully protest, please do, go nuts, have fun. If you want to constantly infringe peoples rights then start crying when people try to stop you from doing that then you can go fuck yourself.

alasdairm & myself said:
can somebody tell me the organizational structure of white supremacy? for example, who is their leader? where are their headquarters? how does one legally become a member?

Alasdairm how is your question relevant to the actions of Antifa? Trying to say that they don't even exist? How did you become a member? It's just an ideology one subscribes to.

Now the US gets to witness its own color revolution. US foreign policy brought home.

^it's sad that it got to the point of civil war before these types of comments were addressed. They've been getting away with terroristic shit for years.

So it could be said that any leftist politician who does not explicitly denounce the rioters could be a leader of Antifa.
The mayor of Minneapolis didn't tell the rioters to stop burning down buildings - instead he told protesters to wear masks and be aware of social distancing.

Also Trump is super Zionist which is antithetical to white supremacy so how could he be both?

Good video commentary by Styx

Summary:
-Trump made decision to label Antifa a terrorist organization
-This has already been done by a couple of states (blue NJ was the first)
-Antifa is forthcoming about their goals of destabilizing the West, destroying the USA, destroying capitalism
-They wish to usher in their idea of revolution by attempting to organize riots to destabilize the fabric of Western society
-Antifa organize, they have FB pages, Twitter pages, Discords, they organize publicly
-Organizing is not an idea, it's a political movement. They have manifestos, manuals etc
-They are a terrorist organization in the general sense of how they're motivated (destruction of society) but he would label them a gang instead
-His problem is the use of the classification terrorist (especially with regards to 4th amendment) having been misused and abused by the government
-Does not believe the government should have the authority to unilaterally declare a group to be terroristic simply because of its motivations
-Government should not be allowed to workaround the 1st and 4th amendments simply by artificially declaring a person to be part of an organization that it feels to be terroristic.
-This classification of terrorist is to go after who funds Antifa and to try to prosecute them.
-Problem is these people are so powerful and well-connected that they could hide the fact that they're funding Antifa or similar groups.
-Best to handle it on the ground using local and state law enforcement

alasdair

if it becomes a proscribed as a terrorist organisation then you can't legally become a member, but you already knew that.

I think you are the leader of antifa, prove otherwise, or a no knock SWAT team will turn up shoot your dog and rifle through your precious Beanie baby collection.

Easier to join the right wingers, you just have to buy a MAGA hat.

No wait those are Trump supporters.

Please show me the violence and destruction that occurred during and or after their peaceful demonstration, Mal.

Now compare how the violence in the last few days has been accomplished with no weapons. Ask yourself what is the difference? Don't you think actions are important?

No-one stands behind the individual officers who perpetrated the violencein Minnapolis. In fact 100% are in favor of the full procecution of the perpetrators. The violence of the demonstrators defile the victim, almost as much as the perpetrators did. By committing random acts of violence on the same community the victim came from they are doing the same thing the perpetrators did, namely taking the law into their own hands.

You'd actually be surprised how many patriots who support the constitution and 2A are not actually Trump supporters (I know that seems impossible to some leftists). Trump has been selling out the 1st Amendment and not advocating enough for many of the people that he made promises to.
But thank you for proving an important point - whenever it's America-loving freedom protests/gatherings, the media labels them as "dangerous, white, right-wing, terrorists, spreading disease, virus murderers" etv even though their protests are calm and peaceful. How many fires were set after one of these protests?

Meanwhile look at the classic lefty Antifa gathering/protest.
The only reason Antifa are so brave and daring is because they're protected by the establishment.
If it was a fair fight then Antifa would get trounced, learn their lessons and not show their masks in public again.

I was going to reply, but

Please show me the violence and destruction that occurred during and or after their peaceful demonstration, Mal.

This nails it.

MSM was in an uproar over armed citizens at state capital buildings where NOBODY caused violence or was harmed, whereas rioting, looting, and attacking innocent bystanders are acceptable and justified. Ask yourself this, how many times have you seen those 2nd A types in the media and heard of any violence? Now, ask yourself how many times you've heard of Antifa in the news and NOT heard of violence? Both would be very rare occurrences.
