I am taking between 300-450mg of roxy (30 mg tabs) daily. I am desperate to stop, but I know I can't handle the w/d. I have checked in to a 3-5 day IP hospital detox program, but that will be difficult with my business and my child. Once before I was taking 80mg of oxy and did fine switching over to a 5mcg Butrans patch with little to no w/d. I have (4) 5mcg patches now, but I am scared because of the amount I am now taking and everything I have read about precipitated wd. Can someone please help me. I have to do this, but I feel like it is a losing battle.

Hi,
Welcome to BL!

Good for you for making a decision to take care of yourself and check into an Inpatient detox. If this detox is in a hospital they should be able to address your needs for withdrawal medications. Could you discuss with them your options for medication moving forward after being discharged? Precipitated withdrawal is awful. I've experienced it being a former Roxy user myself.

I'm going to move your thread over to 'Other Drugs' section .You might receive some more responses in that forum.
You might want to check out Sober Living also.
Best,
Smoky :)

I've withdrawn from just about every kind of opiate except methadone or suboxone. Don't get me wrong.. Heroin and Opana withdrawal is brutal. But for some reason my most hellish detoxes have always been coming off a massive roxy habit. The restlessness and muscle pains are unbearable.

Congratulations on making the decision to get off blues. While you have a substantial habit I've literally come off over double that. It's very possible! And more importantly, especially in a medical setting.... It's possible to do while being relatively comfortable. You're obviously not gonna have fun but don't over think it!

Get to that detox and get assessed by a doctor. Good luck and many prayers

Is it necessary to go IP or can it be done at home. The IP setting is very expensive and I am scared to be away from work and kid. How did you do it?

It's possible. Go to suboxone.com and find a doctor in your area. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Suboxone but it's basically a partial opiate with a much longer half life so it's easier to come off of that roxy.

If you want my honest opinion though... At 450mg of oxy a day you really should see if you can take a few days off work and have a relative watch your kid. Do u have medical insurance?

It's also possible to go out and acquire different medications (both over the counter and prescription) that will make it a lot more bearable. Imodium (anti diarreahl) and neurontin. Tramadol or maybe some benzos.

It really sounds like you don't have any experience kicking this high of a dose of opiates before. You really should find a way to go to a detox for five days realistically. Maybe you can do three days and they can send you home with a prescription for meds that'll help.

Best of luck :)

Snorting Roxi is the worst thing ever..once you get a snorting habit, your metabolism burns them off so quick, you feel the need to redose within a few hours. The same goes for IV use with Roxi.

Personally, and I've been down this road, tolerance builds so quick with Roxi, it sucks. You can go from 30mg 1x per day to doing 300mg per day before you know it. I've been there.

A few suggestions...
- Check out the Sober Living section here, the mega threads on withdrawals, find a local NA group, etc. If you are truly serious about this, it helps to have other recovering addicts to talk to.

- Taper plan ... Best way to go instead of cold turkey. Cutting your dose in half will help you out so much. The amount you are using now shows signs that Roxi really isn't working for you anymore. Once you hit that "dose" , you can't get high anymore and extra mg of the drug is just a waste.

- Change medications ... Talk to your Dr. about how your meds are\are not working for you any longer. I was switched from Roxi to Opana 1 1/2 yr ago, boy what a difference.

Withdrawals ... We've all been there. Yes, they can be hell, but once you're past the first few days, it's worth it. Runny nose, leg aches, upset stomach, anxiety, depression, etc...yes, it happens, but there are meds that can ease your symptoms.

Don't expect overnight results...you're an addict for life, you'll probably relapse, but think of your health and the money and relationships you'll save by even cutting your dose/being sober. It's worth it!

Good luck! If I can do it, you can, too!

Love/hate for roxis...trying to quit myself. Snorting Em is my method and just over it.

I plan on doing a small subox taper. I've done it before and worked well. Stay strong and positive.

You can do it and so can I. I'll stay intouch.

I've been in the same boat as you and it is hard as hell but you can definitely do it!! It's great that you really want to quit yourself and you are not being guilted into it. This will help you overcome the addict in you that rationalized using again.

I think perhaps being in a hospital setting may help because you won't have added stress of home life and they can help set you up with a program to attend once you are out. Quitting can be done time and again but STAYING clean is a whole different game.

If you Google quitting opiates at home a bunch of threads will come up, recommending vitamins and otc things you can buy to help if you chose this alternative. I'm on my phone now but I will make sure to get some links on here when I can to help.

I have gotten through the worst of withdrawals while reading forums on the dark side and sober living on bluelight. There are so many people here who are amazing and supportive.

I have since relapsed and moved back to H but that's why I really recommend doing some form of outpatient once you do your initial detox and/or have a plan set up for after. It makes a WORLD of difference.

Good luck and stay strong! <3

If you decide to stay at home-Here is a link for Thomas Recipe and also read through the discussion ..there's more tips through out. If you follow this or one like it and can not get any type of Benzo and decide to use benadryl, Tylenol pm, unisom etc be aware that these will not necessarily help you get sleep and could potentially make the fact like you can not sleep worse..so use with caution and don't go crazy.

I had a couple friends in the past that used this and were successful and my sisters swears by magnesium mitrate or citrate for anxiety.

I am not familiar enough to tell you how to make the switch/taper withthose patches but with your habit/doc you'll be able to beat this thing even without. No matter what you have to pay the piper. .hopefully this will help you to do itwith as much ease as possible.

And again please put into place a plan for after the initial detox. .I can't stress this enough because paws is a major factor in relapse.

I commend you for getting clean!

Hmm..from what I researched on the Butran patch you have to wear one for 7 days typically (some 3-5) and while it has bupe in it, it is not very compatible to suboxone and I really couldn't find people using it to quit opiates. Since your average withdrawal will last about the same time you would wear just one butran patch and since yours only release 5/ph I think you would honestly be better off not using it.

While it may help slightly with the amount of drug you use daily you will still feel withdrawal and just prolong your suffering. I read that it equals out to approx 60mg oxycodone a day (not sure how accurate this is and it will be different per person regardless) so I think that in the short and long run your best bet is to forget about the Butran.

Sore for all the replies! Sheesh. :)

But I forgot to ask a very important question..are you being prescribed pills for pain? That would make a little bit of a difference in regard to your detox/tapering. And the switching to Butran would make more sense, since it is more commonly used in pain management/breakthrough pain.

Not using for pain. I have taken 1/2 to 1 perc 10 for years with no problem. After watching a silly yrlevisision show, I tried snorting and there is where my true problem began. I went from 5 10's a day to way to many 30's overnight. I still don't know how it happened except my body just

Wanted more. Since my first posting I have gone down to 300, that alone has been difficult. I really want to try to get down to like 60mg before I try to detox. As I said (I think) in my original post, I did that once before with a Butrans patch and no problems at all!!! If I can't do that in the next week or two, I am going the IP route. Scared to death. I purchased some withdrawalease, anyone know if that helps at all?

Awesome job. I'm on day 3 of getting off a large heroin habit. This morning I woke up feeling terrible and for a reference point have taken

12mg imodium
1800mg gabapentin
125mg tramadol
500mg Tylenol (ran out of naproxen)

I don't know what 'withdrawalease" is. What are the ingredients? Sounds sketchy. I've never heard of it and I've been on bluelight for five years... Usually a sign that it's useless ;) but you never know..

Go to CVS or any place that sells over the counter medication and buy imodium anti diarreahl (loperamide). They come in 2mg tablets... Buy as many as you can and get the ones with just loperamide hydrochloride as an active ingredient (the tablets not the gel caps). Stop taking all your meds and eat 30 imodium. If you're still sick in 2hrs eat another ten.

The General consensus seems to be that withdrawal ease doesn't work and it is mainly a placebo effect. Although I was able to find a couple legit good reviews but everyones body is different! I would recommend not to get it but since you already did you might as well take it.

If you detox at home everything you need is in the link I provided you with the Thomas Recipe. I've had several friends use this successfully and theres a ton of positive feedback online. Have you read the link?

Also I know it will feel impossible but it's really important/helpful to get some form of exercise as soon as you feel you can (even if you literally have to force yourself) even if it is just walking around..this helps tremendously.

If you have any questions about the link I sent you feel free to ask.

Also, if you feel you must use the Butran patch to detox, tapering down to at least 60mg is your best bet. Otherwise you'll still feel withdrawal and really just make your withdrawal last longer...not to say that you won't feel any withdrawal symptoms even if you do taper down to 60mg but that is the dosage that is more comparible to the 5mg released per hour with the patch.

Everytime you detox your withdrawal will get worse, especially after you have increased your dosage by so much. I wish I could say it will be easy but it's a tough battle. Using the Thomas Recipe, or the patches etc will help take a bit of the edge off but you can't walk off Scott-free.

You're headed in the right direction and seem like a strong person. You'llbe able to make it through to the other side.

Maybe someone else can chime in more about the Butran patches?

As someone who as a child witnessed my mom detox cold turkey from heroin several times I think it's more fair to your child to go into IP. Now that I'm old enough to look back on it I realize how that that's not something to put on a kid or even in my opinion an adult who isn't prepared for it. Not saying that's at all what I got from your post its just I was in a really fucked up position kind of similar but from another perspective entirely. The last time I helped my mom "quit" (go number 4 not including the FST, she's almost 50 at this point) I waited until she was heavy into it and called an ambulance to have her admitted. Sure she was fucking pissed but it got her the help she needed. More importantly I was able to get out of that environment with the help of a really compassionate social worker and that probably saved my life. I understand your not implying at all that your child is going to be around during this and you obviously love your child or you wouldn't be asking this. I'm glad your ready to take the right steps to get you back on track and this website is full of wonderful and compassionate people who will never give up on or judge you for being human. Sorry if this comes off as more holly than thou meaningless recollection.

Can anyone recommend a dosage and frequency of Xanax and gabapentin? I have the Xanax and have a doc willing to call in the gabapentin. Have no idea how to dose or frequency. Any advice would be much appreciated. Should I start it while tapering?

Great to hear you will be scripted Gabapentin. The doc should write the amount for you. In my experience I took 300mg x 3 a day. I was also taking Clonidine though. You might need more, especially as you are on a fairly high dose, depending on your body weight of course and other factors/medications.

As you might know, Xanax is strong with a short 1/2 life. Always start with 'less' in my experience. Also, I wouldn't take the Xanax for too long…. only for acute symptoms if possible. Symptoms should peak and level off day 4, 5 max. These were the most difficult days for me.

Everyone has made such excellent recommendations above.
L Glutamine might be helpful too. I would google it for opiate withdrawal. By the way Withdrawal Ease isn't enough for what you need. I heard the ingredients in it are very minimal and as someone mentioned, it might work more for placebo effect.

Best,
Smoky

Another question, someone recommended magnesium so I took that along with potassium. Everything I have read states that mag helps with constipation. I definitely do not need that. How do I take the mag for the anxiety and restlessness? Does it even help with that. So confused!!
