Do you think Iran should be allowed to have a nuclear weapon?

Since it's pretty obvious they would use it, instead of just having it for deterrence, I say no. (I base my opinion that they would use it on their call for the destruction of Israel).

The reason they want it is that Israel has one. If it weren't for that then I doubt they'd want it. Iran signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty though, and Israel didn't. So that kind of works against them under treaty law.

Also, the nature of the UN Security Council makes it seem like if you can deveop nukes, you will have a greater say in world affairs, since all of the regional hegemons are nuclear powers. They should add countries like Germany and Japan to the UNSC to offset this perception.

I think Iran should have the right to nuclear energy but their behaviour at this point makes it obvious that they are developing nukes.

yes. America has enough bombs to give every country in the world at least one. We should do that, and then resume a new generation of global politics where each country has the ability to vaporize a city. Maybe their would be less bullshit.

They would never use it against Israel or the USA, since every one of their cities would be incinerated within a day of doing so. Question: if they were so intent on destroying Israel, why haven't they started a war against Israel so far? Because they don't really give a shit, they're just pandering to extreme Islamic groups in Iran.

It's pretty obvious to me that Iran wants nuclear weapons for the same reason every nation wants them: deterrence. I think Iran feels threatened right now. They have actually had WMDs used against them in recent history. Plenty of Iranians remember when Iraq attacked them with chemical weapons. The US military has set up bases on both sides of their country, and has tons of ships sitting in the Persian Gulf. IMO, the Iranian leaders would be really stupid not to build nuclear weapons, and it's exactly what I would do. In a war with the USA, they are completely fucked. So, what would even the odds a bit... maybe some tactical nukes?

Should they be allowed to? I think they should, as long as other countries are allowed to. People have a right to defend themselves, and nations are just big groups of people.

No, it's not good. The more countries that have them, the higher the chance they will eventually be used. But they aren't just going to attack Israel. Yeah, there are extremists in Iran who would love to see that happen. But that doesn't mean Iranian politicians are going to do it. There are right-wing Americans who say we should nuke the middle east. But republican politicians aren't that stupid, are they?

The main danger with Iran having nuclear weapons is that they might feel more bold about pushing their weight around in the region, and that would encourage other countries, especially Saudi Arabia, to build some nukes of their own.

very nice post

hey bro, i think you left your brain in the wash.
nope, it's on a plane headed to Sweden. mindfreak..............8o

Why wouldn't Iran use it? The Iranian president has called for the destruction of Israel, and denies the holocaust ever happened.

Maybe they haven't attacked Israel because they don't have the ability to incinerate an entire city with one bomb. And perhaps they think the US will not be so quick to help Israel if Iran has nuclear weapons?

hamster molester

Do I think they should be allowed? Of course not.

Do I understand why they want them? Of course. They are bordered by a nuclear power with a religion sect that's hostile to their own (Pakistan), surrounded by other (non-nuclear) nations with the same hostile religious sect, seen two bordering nations (Iraq and Afghanistan) invaded by a superpower with nuclear weapons, and have another nuclear nation in the region that's openly hostile to them and is talking about attacking them (Israel).

If I was them, I would be trying to sneak the production of a nuclear weapon as well.

building a bomb is stupid. build the delivery tech and buy the surplus warheads out of the old USSR.

just look at them

Yes. We don't have a honest perspective of what's occuring anyway because the mainstream media is inherently biased on this issue.. there's absolutely no reason to believe anything that comes out of the TV, papers, or otherwise. It seems pretty clear to me that this nuclear Iran issue only affects Israel.. I don't see why anyone else should really give a shit. If I was in Iran's position I would be racing to develop nuclear tech too; looking just outside their borders they see destroyed nations and they know they'll probably be next in line for "regime change" or "installation of democracy" or "given freedom" from the West.

there's a good chance they've done this already, and probably some other people have too.

No. The fact they have been uncooperative at best about their ambitions and not letting inspectors do their job is reason enough. But they also support terrorist organizations which allows the opportunity to proliferate dirty bombs (or worse) to those groups.

I do not believe they have a reason to worry about invasion unless they pull off some massively stupid act of war. And in such a case, it will not just be the US they have to worry about. The powers of government in Iran are in the minority, the people there will find a way to change it when they are ready.

^ I agree. The idea that Iran will immediately turn around and launch nukes on Israel is stupid, but the fact that the Iranian government has been so cagey and uncooperative with the UN and other international agencies is reason enough halt their nuclear programs.

I guess I don't understand why if Iran says their nuclear program is for peaceful civilian purposes, they won't let international inspectors in to have a look. If they said yes, we're making nukes, but we won't use them, whats the difference?

And what happens if one day Iran says "oh by the way we were lying the whole time, and now we have a nuclear weapon, bitches" What changes then?

I do not think they should have one - they have already threatened to blow another country off the map.
There are too many nukes and bombs in this world anyway.
A better use of the money would be education and programs to help the poor. Most Iranians are very poor.

Totalitarian theocratic dictators probably prefer the people to remain poor and as uneducated as possible, so of course they would rather use the money on weapons to kill instead of making the lives of the people they control and abuse better.
