Hi,
This is my first time posting ,but I have been reading for years. I have very severe insomnia. I have taken everything from Nembutal to Chloral Hydrate and everything else. I get zero rem sleep as I have had 7 sleep studies and never leave stage two. I was prescribed Xyrem by a sleep specialist. While it has positive effects it does not put me to sleep period. I still have two full bottles. My sleep specialist said I am the first person he has ever prescribed it to that has no reaction. It's so bad I am going to turn in the unused Xyrem and get my Valium, Ambien and Seroquel back.He made me discontinue both for the Xyrem. The hardest to obtain, most expensive and monitored drug in modern medicine and I have to give it up. It costs almost 20,000 a month. The process you have to go through to finally get Xyrem is insane.I took 8g had a smile that wouldn't go away. It was a unique experience, but I don't see the recreational or abuse potential so much. They actually call and check on me at Jazz pharmaceuticals. My sleep specialist is good but, very conservative he made me discontinue Valium,Ambien and Seroquel. When I take it with Valium and Seroquel it puts me in rem, but without those I just get a weird buzz and no sleep. Now I'm out of Valium, but going to have to find a Benzo online which has become very difficult because my anxiety is so severe. If any of you have had positive effects or unable to sleep after taking it Xyrem/GHB as well as extreme insomniacs that finally found the right cocktail. Please PM me

Perhaps you were having rebound effects after stopping the powerful combo of valum, ambien, and seroquel(that is a seriously crazy KO combo) that the GHB wasn't able to overcome? How long did you go without? Did you taper off them before starting the GHB?

I took Seroquel and Diazipam the last two nights and the Xyrem put me in rem, but without them it does nothing but give me a weird buzz. So it puts me in rem which I never get, but am not allowed to take anything with it, I know it's safe but my sleep specialist would cut me off if he found out I took it with Valium. My anxiety is out of control, I was prescribed Lyrica which my insurance denied 3 times. It's quite the conundrum.

What I am trying to say is the Xyrem would probably work fine if you hadn't been previously using a trio of the most powerful KO drugs on the planet(benzo, z-drug, AP)...your body has gotten used to taking them and even though GHB is known to be able to put people to sleep very effectively itself it works in an entirely different way than either of the 3 drugs you had been taking before so the problem might not be the Xyrem as much as it is your previous habituation. Perhaps if you were to taper off the previous drugs(eliminating them one at a time) or were able to go without them for some time before taking the Xyrem it would work as intended.

Note: immediate cessation of high dose benzo's after taking them long term can result in seizure so be careful.

Valium, Ambien and Seroquel back.He made me discontinue both for the xyrem

And what was your usage pattern of these drugs were you tapered? Like Coolwhip mentioned that could be a issue. Your own experience on the 3 seems hopefull, but how do you know you went REM?

Your previous medication's could have raised tolerance to GHB also. But 8 grams of GHB is a whole lot, can't imagine keeping my eyelids open even with tolererance to GHB so you are special ;). My dosage's stayed at a steady point after a while.

Thank you, however I am very aware about discontinuing those medications. Seroquel is the worst offender. I have 3 diazepam left, so it's about to get worse. It says your supposed to fall asleep in 5 minutes. 5g of xyrem 300 of seroquel, 15mg of diazepam and it takes 2-3 hours to fall asleep? I know I'm getting Rem because if you haven't had any for 19 years zero dream and zero nightmares, but now I'm dreaming. How much Rem is the question. The higher the Xyem dose, I'm sure the worse the rebound is when it wheres off. It does give you a unique feeling and severe vertigo. The strangest medication I have takin in my life and I have even been prescribed Nembutal,Chloral Hydrate. Those both work much better but they don't have the latter in the U.S anymore and Nembutal is dangerous because it causes intense euphoria. I really like to hear from people actually prescribed Xyrem for insomnia which is rarely ever done. Thank you both
