Opioids heroin/painkillers: hormone damage

I'm writing this because if I had known what a decade of opioid pharmaceuticals and IV opiate use would do to me I might have made different choices early on.

I take an intramuscular shot of both HCG and menopur every third day, and clomid and exemestane orally daily. Those are some of the medications the octa-mom took to have all of those kids. Clomid, I take to tell my brain to produce testosterone because I hardly have any without it. Exemestane is an anti-estrogen pill they generally give to women who have breast cancer. HCG: $250 a month. Menopur: $1000 a month. All of this because I used to take vicodin, heroin, oxycodone, you name it. If you wouldn't take steroids because you're scared your balls will shrink, consider that I'm saying that opiates have had the same ramifications for me.

I was accepting of the fact that I may not live for another ten years with my heroin IV use. I would have maybe thought twice if I'd had known I would live, get off of it, and have to take a penile injection to have sex in my early 30's. The shutting-off of testosterone can create a deteriorating of the tissue in the penis that's call penile fibrosis. That means you can't get a solid erection, it wont hold blood. The highest doses of viagra or cialis don't work, it takes a shot I have to give myself down low. My general blood flow alone to the area is weak because of some arterial blockage they suspect is there. I injected a lot of weird things that weren't meant to be.

Furthermore, and some doctors wont even make this distinction, there is a difference in problems with libido and urological structural problems. ED medications can't fix libido problems caused by opiates, they only fix the equipment. Think of it like, the libido problem is a brain function issue. I have gone years with hardly any attraction towards women. It's like being castrated. They say as an organism we have to basic motives: survival and replication. That's half of your drive to live gone.

I've been prescribed addyi, which didn't do anything. I found and have had prescribed to me oxytocin, which helps with this issue but it feels like a fixing of some surface symptoms as opposed to really fixing the underlying problem. When I used illicit substances long ago I found that phenobarbital helps. G made a huge difference but it's too rough a thing on the body in its street form and it comes with a lot of problems. Plus relying on illicit substances feels awful. It makes it feel like society is practically outlawing your ability to have sex. You have to wonder why some street guy can make some garbage xyrem secretly in his home that can fix the life-altering medical issue you have, and yet average doctors will tell you that no psychiatric solutions are available. It feels like they could do more and they wont for whatever reason. This libido problem is difficult. It's difficult on my marriage. It creates a surprising amount of social difficulties.

Maybe someone who's taking opiates or opioids needs to hear this. I don't think that a lot of people who lived like i was living make it out of that situation- without dying or going to jail- so they can be here to say these things. Furthermore, I'm blessed to have a life that can afford expensive, very good doctors in southern California, as well as the ability to afford these medications that insurance wont cover. So it's good to pass anything along given that most doctors your going to go see when you have these issues, are irresponsibly unknowledgeable and somewhat uninterested- I could go on and on about doctors...

If you have any questions about the specifics around these treatments I'm mentioning, just ask. And just a disclaimer, medications or any sort of substance I use are legal or prescribed, these days.

Thank you for your post.
Do you know how opiates can effect females? I have been trying to find research abt it with no suxess.

I really don't know. I don't think gonadal hormones would be as significant an issue in women. Given that oxytocin, which is a pituitary hormone and not gonadal, helps with my sexual desire level I suspect that the opiates did more to my endocrine system than what pertains to just men. It'd really be interesting to hear any women here mention any specific sexual dysfuntion issues.

I said that I tried addyi, which my doctor prescribes for men off-label. It's actually indicated for female use. Maybe a women would have a higher chance of success with it than I did.

I think you'll find that the studies and research on this are lacking. I have doctors from UCLA and USC, as well as the doctor at the San Diego center for Sexual Medicine. The good doctors seem to be more open to experimentation and react to what I say in a way that makes me feel like everyone is out there is still learning about this issue.

I am three weeks off opiates after an 8 month long using stance. There is not a lot of info online about women and heroine/opiate use and what it does to our bodies. I have NOT had a period in 6 months. It has thrown my hormones totally out of whack. I am having symptoms of menopause at age 26. Why is there no information about this online?

Ps I think this is more known knowledge but I just need to report...after coming off opiates I have never had a higher sex drive in my life. My body is super sensitive. Still waiting for my period to come back:/

When I got off heroin and switched to suboxone my sex drive was beyond insane. In fact one night I forgot to take my suboxone and my girl stopped by for some fun. I hate to admit it but within 30seconds I had cum, got cleaned up and went back in. Came again almost immediately, cleaned up and tried for round 3. Came again... As a male I had 3! full orgasms one after another, we just laughed and I said "welp it ain't happening tonight sweetheart.."

Took me a few months to normalize again.

I always felt that much of this "damage" was reversible and with that OP I have some questions. How long did you use? How much and what opiates most often? How long have you been off? Are you, or have you, taken any other pharmaceuticals?

This exact same thing happened to me when I got off heroin. It's been 4 years and I still have this issue. I never have had this problem before my heroin use so I'm certain that the H is the culprit. I don't know why I am still having this issue 4 years later though!
