In recent years we have seen a downward trend for participation in some of the forums. As such, we will be merging several forums over the course of the current PRUNE process. We will update this post with changes as they are determined.

COMPLETE
Mephedrone Research >> merged into Drug Studies
E&C >> merge into LAVA
NASADD Events archives have been combined.
EMD + NEMD >> new music forum
EADD Events Archive >> merged into the EADD archive
HOMELESS now removed
TESTING GROUNDS and ANONYMOUS put under SITE TECHNICAL HELP until we can adjust STH settings and give an explanation of how to do without TG and ANON, at which point those will be gone as well.
HR WORKSHOP (now closed) and WIKI have been moved to Bluelight History at the bottom of the forum groupings.
NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTION (NMI) has been grouped with ANNOUNCEMENTS and SUPPORT and TECHNICAL HELP (STH)
PSYCHEDELIC HARM REDUCTION from the MAPS forum group has been merged into PD
MAPS forums have been merged and moved next to Drug Studies for now.
Pillreports forums have been merged and the remaining forum placed next to MDMA & Empathogenic Drugs.
JANUARY -
Basic Drug Discussion (BDD) has been moved into the topmost forum group of Bluelight Basics so it now reads as:
- BDD
- NMI
- Announcements
- STH
We earlier merged the MAPS > Clinical Psychedelic Research & Medicine into the MAPS forum, but have now moved that content out as Psychedelic Drugs > Psychedelic Medicine sub-forum.
DRUG FAQ as a reference forum, has been moved from the Drug Discussion group down with the other historical BL content in a new subgroup of Bluelight Archives.
Science & Technology has been merged into CEP (with a rename, and appropriate changes to description and guidelines)
Drug Experiences
- Trip Reports
- Drug Culture
- EADD
- AusDD
- NADD

Media, Science & Research
- Nueroscience & Pharmacology
- DitM
- MAPS
- Drug Studies

Addiction and Recovery
- Healthy & Sober Living (merging those two)
- Mental Health
- The Dark Side

The new Psychedelic Medicine forum (was with MAPS, trialed under Psychedlic Discussion) is now being trialed as a stand alone forum in the Media, Science & Research grouping with Mr Peabody being promoted to moderator for the forum.
AUS regional has had it's three old archives combined (AusSoc + AusEvents >> AusDD)

PLANNED
We WILL Make the following changes:

NEMD is ready to merge

EMD has until 3SEP to complete their prune (essentially done now)

=> We will merge and create Music Discussion over the weekend. We can rename later, though it would have been cool to give a new name at the time of (re)birth.

======

E&C is ready to merge

LAVA has until 10SEP to complete their current round, and have one round to follow.

=> We will merge E&C into LAVA (and E&C Archive into LAVA Archive) over the weekend. This should not effect LAVA prune rounds. We will also rename the LAVA archive from being SO archive at this time :|

E&C is now merged into LAVA. There may be a rename coming for LAVA, and we'll fix the archive name accordingly. This will wait until LAVA is done with their prune.

NASADD events subs combined.

Well if anyone has any complaints, they can send me a PM, and I'll be sure to file them somewhere important....

Bump for merging of EADD Events Archive into general EADD Archive.

We continue to evaluate forum merges and restructuring for the rest of 2018 in advance of a site migration/update. Currently, we are looking to close down the following forums:

HOMELESS - folks will make their best guess at where to put a thread, and mods will move it if required. This is already happening, we'll just take down the HOMELESS forum from being one more place awaiting moderator oversight to move something.

ANONYMOUS - The original intent has faded away to minimal use these days. There are still reasons to allow unregistered members to post relative to some issues, and we will likely open up our SUPPORT and TECHNICAL HELP (STH) forum to allow unregistered posters, though like here ANON such posts will be unapproved to start and have staff approval to make htem visible. This is largely due to accepting feedback from lurkers about the site which is always welcome, and keeping the public from seeing the heavy stream of SPAM we'd have to clean out from letting unregistered accounts post. We will work out a final solution, but for now, consider this the notice that the forum proper is going away.

TESTING GROUNDS - anyone has the ability to delete their post. You want to try something, try it somewhere. If it is part of the thread, great! If it isn't, just delete your post.

= = = =

New Member Introductions (NMI) - would be the only forum left under Bluelight Basics, so we will be moving it to another location, but it WILL be kept.

This is your chance to speak up on this decision before we remove the forums. We will continue to announce other such changes here as we evaluate them. Thank you for your input and support.

Csn nmi be situated with tl and the other chatty bits?

Also, the anon post during a ban thread, clearly can be problematic yet it's a pretty cut and dried Avenue to use like it was designed for originally.

Can the moderation before posting be removed and that thread kept and moved to support please.

As for anon posting, please reconsider dropping the 50 post restriction on forums as that anon place would be where noobs would go to, I guess, or make it obv if noob too embarass to post themselves to get mod to do it , or something.

Thanks tlb

The reason we can't make anon open is because we get spam, spambots and general bullshit posted in there zep. And there isn't a 50 post restriction on any forum except SLR, which is to thin out the masturbation trolls, of which we were being inundated until we introduced that earlier this year :)

Moving NMI to the Social forums is an interesting and perhaps splendid idea, thanks for sharing. Though moving it down the bottom where the other social/community forums exist might work against that, since noobs are less likely to pop down there in the beginning when they're new.

Mate, it was open for a long time. Yes you can make it open, yes it could well get spam. It could require tending to and that is not exactly a huge ask, as it is one thread, for a purpose that is well worth the potential time it will take up.

I realise that there have been insinuations in support and elsewhere that problematic people tend to "demand " volunteers time and attention more than desirable.

That's true, yet not either as a lot of attention is sometimes given in a negative unhelpful way either on public or behind the scenes anyway so may as well use that time directly with that person and sort it out if possible that way.

There is a definate plus side to this, as you can see in the viewable parts of the thread, if you are aware of busty, hes actually on point throuought.

Anyway, that's already a no is it?

Hope you change your mind, it shouldn't have been moderated in the first place.

The insinuation you're making is that staff are not approving a whole bunch of legitimate posts. Which isn't true. The posts that aren't approved are stuff like Viagra, iboga and livestream bots, because they don't have to register an account. And sometimes we get an outbreak of rampant spambots, which can result in dozens of spammy posts with links to who knows what kind of scam.

Why do you want to actively encourage spam and scamming?

Why do you want to actively encourage spam and scamming
Why the hell would you think this of me.

This does not deserve a response however given you have happily and openly shared your own personal feelings of various issues amongst some friends who would have possibly fared better should ataff be a little bit more inclined to use that thread properly , I am talking about one thread only.

I clearly know sweet f.a. about v bulletin, or whatever the new version is, I dont know if it's possible to have a guest or alt of a banned post in one thread only and if they are they will have to register an alt .

I dont see that it's a good use of my time even bothering to attempt talking to some of you about this again, so whatever.

Enjoy your downturn, its sad to see but not that bad, what's worse is shit like this, dont waste my time mate.

You of all people.

You spend time enjoying the company and rather plentiful chat with some who have really been fucked over, you have said yourself what you thought of the frivolous bans for shits and giggles, I screenshot that so screw you. you are aware of shit you are clearly not going to bother addressing.

So what's the point.

Anyway, thanks for the info re closing down various things etc etc, dont bother putting up "we need your help" banners or anything, forget the suggestion, it took all of a few minutes for a no so clearly you guys just not interested in anyone but yourselves .

Here's a thought though: maybe if the band were last resort and not flipped out as thoughtlessly as has been you wouldnt need to restore your incredibly damaged reputation?

Hey tlb, forget the boo hoo of alts and trolls. It's the internet. Theres akways going to be trolls, and who gives a shit about alts.

Damn, I don't personally care about the other two, actually I've always thought homeless was really going above and beyond to begin with.

But I've used testing a couple times back when we were having unicode issues. It's not "that" big a deal. Just slightly unfortunate.

TG is a nice to have, but it's needs can be met without a dedicated forum. Cost is low, but benefit is lower. Hell, STH can be used as a testing area and nobody would care if you self-delete your own threads and/or posts.

= = =

Zeph, the use of ANON for banned members is a recent occurrence, and yeah there is a bit of benefit to it. Though, they always had before, and during, the chance to use the admin gmail. Posting to a thread like this gets visibility for staff who aren't in the admin gmails, so that is likely a plus. These are things we keep in mind when considering how to accommodate the functions ANON met without requiring a dedicated forum. Whatever we choose to do going forward, should maintain close to the same level of communication that ANON provided (for bans or unregistered inquiries) though without the need of a dedicated forum. That's all. Not trying to kill something useful, but move useful things together where they can get better attention and thin down all the places we have to check for stuff.

Within a forum, is it possible to have automatic unapproval of posts for guests while allowing posts from registered users to be posted without mod approval?

EXCELLENT QUESTION! And I had to check to be sure, but YES, forum posting can be set by usergropes...or usergroups, if you prefer.

While this will lift the restriction for registered members to reply to things, unregistered person's posts would still require a moderator to approve them. This means there is a chance for an unregistered person's post to 'pop up' a few posts above the last post in a thread if we aren't right on top of it all the time. By the way, have you been told about Bluelight time? But I kid. Sounds like a great suggestion.
