I've used a variety of drugs on and off for about half my life. However, the last few months I have felt like my drug use is getting out of hand.

I'm using on my own, I'm using on my lunch break, I've noticed a change in my attitude towards others, along with plenty of other warning signs.

Part of my problem is that so far I've managed to keep this to myself, but when I stop, the withdrawal is more obvious than being high. I've tried gradually reducing my dose, but I don't have enough self control to make that work.

I'm considering speaking to my GP l, but I'm worried they'll blacklist me from prescribing anything abusable in future.

I get sleeping pills on a semi regular basis and am due to have surgery in the future. Will they refuse me morphine for the op? Will they cancel the op?

Any similar experiences would be great

To clarify, I'm having problems with cocaine and various opiates. Iv use of both.

First step would be to go to recovery and from there you will get plenty of help like psychiatrist( even tho they are evil, but you didn't say that I did), those therapies will help you. Also electro or some can't fuckin recall now but they will talk with you bout' that. Self control could be achived through meditation for e.g or things that you like

Hello this&that,

If it were me, I'd do it without it being put on my file, if at all possible of course. I agree with shady, go off to recovery, you'll get the help you need there.

I want to tell you how proud I am of you for coming to this realization that you even need help.Very proud of you!! If you need someone to talk to I am here to support you, good or bad doesn't matter, feel free to pm me anytime. You can do this!!

Your friend,
Ashley.

Unfortunately if you tell your GP he will put it in your file. It's hard enough nowadays to get any help with pain so IMO I wouldn't tell him.

You can choose other routes and leave the blank where your doctor's name goes empty when filling out paperwork.

It would be a great world if doctors didn't bring their prejudices to work.

I have a specialist who handles all my scripts and I still get ugly comments from nurses and doctors when I'm sick. All I want is antibiotics and they say We Aren't Giving You Any Narcotics. I've never smarted off but I want to say "Did I ask for any?". I have plenty, thankyouverymuch.

And God Forbid don't go to an Emergency clinic and list out your medication. The doctor was floored when I said 30 mgs of Methadone a day so I stopped there before he killed over.

Hi Chronic,

As a fellow pain management patient I have to agree with you 100%. This has been my experience as well, unfortunately. Once they see what medication you're taking even if it's for a legitimate reason ( for me I have DDD several herniated discs in both my lumbar and cervical spine and I've had a fusion) They treat you like a drug seeker.

One of the times I had to refill my rx I called the rx in so it would be ready when I got there. But when I got up to the counter they said they hadn't filled it and had no reason why? Lol.

I asked how long I would have to wait and the lady helping actually said "in about 10 minutes, don't have a heart attack." When I looked back at the pharmacist she was smirking. Very disheartening to say the least.

That was one of the milder comments made to me. I have also been told in a hospital not to bother asking for narcotics even though I have NEVER had an addiction problem and always taken my meds as rx'd. They paint EVERYONE with the same brush once they see you're on opiates....Sorry ranting today, lol. Just wanted to say I relate.

Hugs to you chronic, you and I are very similar in regards to our chronic pain. I hope you're doing well and I'm happy you have a great specialist to follow you!

Well first off, your GP is not the person to speak to about addiction issues. All that they will really be able to do is blacklist you and make a referral to an addiction specialist. Unless you are currently going through serious and potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms(in which case you would go to the ER, not GP) then reach out to a substance use disorder counselor, an inpatient rehab, medically managed withdrawal/detox center or even self-help groups like NA, AA, etc.

Speaking to any certified professional will likely get you blacklisted. There are things like "recovery coaches" and things of that sort, but they don't answer to any governing body so ethics and standard practices may be highly suspect.

what drugs are you using, and how much are you using a day and how much are you dosing at a time?

Multiple drugs, heroin + coke mainly. tried swapping coke to speed so at least wouldn't be dosing as often.

Got the referral to speak to someone regarding depression, left out the drug side of things. It really felt like he knew though, could just be paranoia.

Continued to use today, heroin and speed, plus some gabapentin to ease out the jidders

Can't do that, I'm currently v high functioning. Holding down a job and keeping it from my family

Okay then, you could try to taper down, my friend Dale/SoCal424 came off Methadone tapering on his own. Google his name for his thread. I also CT'd off hydromorphone with no comfort meds. Stupid I know, lol. But if you could taper and get some comfort meds you'd do a lot better than struggling your ass off like I did.

Can you get some benzo's from your Dr? They would help you a lot for the quit, also loperamide for the Gi issues.

If you need help we will all be here to support you. Message me anytime, if nothing else, you have a friend in me and I will always be here to support you, okay?

Hugs, Ash....I wish I could be more helpful to you.

Yeah I'm not really too sure if seeing someone about your depression without being honest about your drug use is really going to be very productive. The side effects of drugs can have the same symptoms as various mental illnesses/conditions such as depression and mania.

How long have you been using that combination? That's a hard combo of drugs to be using and not have anyone start to notice after a while, especially once the habit starts to get out of control.
