Hi all, perhaps this sub can use some nice examples of reagent testing tips 'n tricks =)

Let's start with false positives! For example did you know that the Scott reagent (Cocaine Test) gives a false positive with A-PHP, A-PIHP and PV9?

These cathinones are known for serious nasty side effects, are extremely potent stimulants with tendencies for psychosis and binges. The police use Scott as a single-reagent Cocaine kit, but don't try to do the same with unknown powders! Always test your Coke with more than a single reagent.

Do you have examples of other substances easily mistaken with a reagent test? We will be posting on regular basis in this thread.

So here we have another one, according to the Slovenian Police MDPHP gives a complete false positive (unless you are a pro) for MDMA.

What's even more interesting is that we have some MDPHP, confirmed by LC/MS-QTOF analysis and it does NOT react that dark, though. Can anyone try to confirm?

There is some good news - the MDPHP sample was mislabled by Slovenian Police, or perhaps not labeled clearly enough. Upon investigating the NMR results, I found the information that it had an organic impurity, therefore the result above is NOT correct for pure MDPHP. We will have videos up and running shortly, but for now this is perhaps another lesson - your substance can react off even without any psychoactive adulterant. It can very well by just a synth byproduct.

Today I would like to share 2 examples of a false positive to the Scott reagent (coke, or more precisly any -kaine test).

    1) Only the substance reacts, not all of the reagent. This will happen with most of the stuff you pour Scott onto!

    2) An actual positive reaction for Scott is unlike e.g. Ehrlich's - not just any degree of color change, we need the whole liquid drop to turn blue for actual Scott positive. But this still can be misleading:

Never use just one test, even if the police does it all the time - they can afford a mistake!
