Nobody seems to put stock into work anymore. It must be the end of things.

Work? Most people are incredibly lazy when doing work they find boring, and like to pass the buck to a colleague, but FYI that's not news and not a recent thing either

There are fewer manual labour type jobs though - these have largely been replaced by robots and machines.

Indeed. We are transitioning to a purely mechanical world. Long after the earth no longer meets requirements for human life to continue, that's all we'll have left, are machines.
