ESPN picking the Dolphins to finish 32nd out of 32 teams is a bit of a stretch by ESPN. Our roster is almost definitely better than the bottom 10 teams in the league.
As you guys know, I'm generally a pessimist, but we finished 6-10 last year with Jay Cutler playing his worst Jay Cutler-ball of all time. That's not too bad, all things considered.
The only position we are demonstrably weaker in than last year is defensive tackle, and I don't even think we are all that weak there. We are much stronger and deeper at defensive end as well, to make up for it. Linebacker is still going to be a problem, unless our two rookies manage to really step it up by the time the season starts.
Also, people be sleeping on Tannehill. He was playing very well at the end of 2016. He may not be elite, but he is pretty good, and people treat him like he is trash. There are far worse QB situations one could find themselves in in this league.
Personally, i think we are a borderline playoff team. Between 8-8 and10-6 is my call. We may not have as much star power as the more elite NFL teams right now, but we have a pretty solid roster, with our only legitimate soft spot being our linebacking corp.
My guess is that we are ranked so low because we generate so little hype. That, or people overstate the losses of Suh and Landry, who were great players for sure, but both demanded bloated contracts, and the money we saved was used to replace them with good or solid players at a number of positions, creating a more solid roster overall.
