Online consultation/prescription services UK

I won’t name any specific sites as I’m not sure of the rules, but has anyone (particularly UK based) used one of the popular online prescription “consultation” services?

I entered details about my GP, medical history, filled in a form re my anxiety and selected the product I wanted, which was Pregabalin 300mg 56 tablets. Made payment, waited a few hours for one of their GPS to review and approve. Then it was dispatched to my local pharmacy, the next day! Genuine pharma Pregabalin (brand Lecaent - which is mentioned on the UK NHS website).

My GP wouldn’t prescribe this, yet this seemed so easy for a drug Like Pregabalin.

So my question is, does this constitute a valid “prescription”. If I had a drugs test or was driving having had this drug, am I technically prescribed this? The doctors are EU doctors apparently, not sure how it works? This site does have like 3000 reviews on truspilot almost 5 star and is affiliated with a famous UK celebrity doctor. They’re definitely not a scam. But are they legit UK prescriptions?

it's the [tv celeb] one? Yeah it's legit. Most of the online pharmacies that come up first in a google search are, but there are a few dodgy overseas ones you have to be more careful with

I think they carefully regulate how frequently and what quantity of a med they will sell you though, and even different pharmacy companies collude to share info on buyers of opiates/benzos in case you do a bit of online pharmacy hopping. Do you know when you will be able to order again from them?

It is. I’m not sure, my order should last me a couple of months, so probably then.

Seems incredibly dodgy that a flimsy online consultation form counts as 'seeing a doctor'? 8(

I have checked and they are General Pharmeceutical Council (GPhC) registered pharmacies, which means they have been approved by the independent regulator for pharmacies in the UK, so all above board.

Also the forms are reviewed by a GMC registered Doctor, GMC (General MediCal Council) being the independent regulator for doctors in the UK. It does seem ridiculously easy to get Pregabalin and possibly benzos, which is odd. Not that I will ever be trying to get benzos

This doesn't make sense/add up. So you do not have a prescription for pregabalin, yet it was dispatched to your local pharmacy?

^ he had a legitimate prescription, just not a paper one. They're genuine doctors, but instead of a face-to-face consultation it's either online or on the phone. And it's all perfectly legit and above board. Expensive though, since it's private not NHS

do you find Pregabalin better than benzos for anxiety? I've been prescribed Valium and Lorazepam and never found them particularly helpful

Thanks for explaining how it works, I get it now. Very bizzare.

The online “consultation”, and review constitutes a prescription. That is what I was asking in this thread actually as I wasn’t sure.

I’ve never had benzos so I can’t say. As far as Pregabalin only on the third day. 300mg was way to much, I could barely walk. I split the capsules and divided into 75 mg doses which I take 2/3 times a day. They seem to make me calmer but emotionally more down than usual. Hopefully that will pass.

As far as being expensive, it costs 65 pounds for a 2 month supply, consultation included. Not as cheap as NHS but not bad for a private prescription. So actually, if I continue taking as I am, that would give me a 4 month supply!

I do take Vyvanse as well. It seems to blunt that somewhat, I was actually hoping for some potentiation. Now that was an expensive script to get, very expensive! I did have numerous consultations and tried Concerta, Ritalin, Dex IR and Guancifine as well as the Vyvanse, so for all the consultations and prescriptions that cost me over four figures! But hey it’s been an experience! I had to go through a very thorough assessment too.

And yeah this I just my opinion but while Private prescribers (both face to face and online) will do everything to cover their asses and ensure they have enough reasons to issue a valid prescription, they will find a way to get it to you as often as they can because it’s all about money.

Exactly!! This is why the US is so fucked up on prescription opioids...

Yeah and not just opioids but also stimulants, especially adderall and ritalin I believe? From what I’ve read they give them out to kids like it’s candy? It’s crazy, they are some seriously powerful drugs to a brain that is still developing!

I think the UK has a good balance between public and private healthcare but I wouldn’t mind being in the US for what seems like relatively easy access to most things.

^fuck that, you can get 'most things' over here without your doctor telling you to up the dose and just having to pop to sainsburys. Sounds good on paper but...

This private stuff looks dodge as fuck, I wonder if your GP will receive notice of this. Mine would be very interested (and annoyed) that somebody gave me.a lreg script behind her back, over the internet.

My GP is aware of the Vyvvanse and actually started a joint care scheme so I get it prescribed from him now.

They probably won’t receive notice of Pregabalin but I will be open with my GP anyway because if you have a private script, that is completely your choice and above board if it?s prescribed by a doctor registered with GMC.

GP can’t be annoyed if you choose to pursue a private route. There are many reasons to go private: shorter waiting times, specialist, consultations from home for those who struggle to get to a Practice. If that consultation leads to a prescription from a GMC doctor to a GPhC registered pharmacy, then it’s all above board. The GP may not agree with the online GP’s diagnosis, but the thing is, two GP’s in the same Practice will often have differing views and prescribe different things.

Thats why it’s always good to get multiple opinions if possible with medical matters. Sticking to one GP is not the best thing to do in my opinion.

I saw two different private docs re my adhd and one prescribed things the other wouldn’t. One I only saw through an online consultation, the other i saw face to face, both worked for the same Practice.

i saw two different NHS doctors regarding shared care, both had differing views and both at the same Practice.

I saw three different GPs re Pregabalin for anxiety. One prescribed it, albeit online, the other two wouldn’t. It’s just the same scenario as above.

Being above board doesn't mean it's necessarily 'right', though I do apologise as I know that's such a subjective thing to say.

NHS GPs can be a pain in the arse, but on the other hand, they probably play an important role in restricting the supply of highly addicting or unnecessary drugs because they have no (or very little) financial incentive to prescribe anything (eg my GPs refuse to prescribe benzos or anti-biotics without a very crystal clear need and/or a specialists request), unlike private doctors.

As soon as money and profit become involved in health, health tends to get put on the back-burner a little more.

Well said. A financially motivated doctor is little more than a 'respectable' drug dealer...

Especially with that celeb creep off the TV being involved, sounds shady AF.
