Flowering red bottle brush next to my house

You must get a lot of hummingbirds!<3

Hey now, are you trying to bribe your way into the upcoming SL modspot? ;)

it's the slop spot %) 8)
Well, if flower pics is what it takes, then I'm happy to oblige =D
I recently saw the first hummingbird I think I've ever seen in Florida and I've been here for 20 plus years now. For the longest time I didn't think we had fireflies either, but the Sierra Club chapter did a night hike at a remote lake where we were able to see them. They are only active for a very short time here though.

Oh my God bro everyone in my fucking neighborhood has those damn bottlebrushes yeah they're pretty I used to collect them when I was jacked up LOL, they're absolutely beautiful

As soon as I figure out how to do it I can put up some really pretty pictures of some "flowering" plants that I had last October.....

I went to an orchid show last weekend... when I get some time I'll upload some pictures I took and post them.

Still no flowers here, too cold, where is this spring you ladies and gents speak of?

This wasn't recent, but from Pražsky hrad in July. I put the feather there, but found the plant intriguing.

And here's a little birdy that was following me around, trampling between the clovers.

Blue_phlame, those are stunning!<3 The second down with the feather is particularly sharp and inviting. I got a Northern Flicker tailfeather last summer after he dropped it by my sister's birdfeeder and I took some pictures of it with various plants she had around the garden. I'll have to look for those and post them.

Wow B_P those are stunning photos!

Am I derailing by adoring the birdy more?

Bow chicka-a wow wow

I went to an orchid show at the arboretum on Saturday with my girlfriend and a friend. She is fully obsessed with orchids right now, her passion has always been plants, understanding them and taking care of them, and I think it's doing her some good to be getting into orchids.

Here is a dragon sculpture hanging out with the orchids. It has soulful eyes, I was really struck by it. It was about the size of a large dog, and it made me wish there were dog-sized dragons we could be friends with.

Wow, I can only imagine how much those orchids are worth... no sourcing discussion of course :) just thinking... wow

Beautiful pictures. When I was leading kayak tours on the side I had to instruct people not to post any cellphone orchid pics lest it get geotagged and some poacher (not sure that's the right term for a plant but it fits) go to that location and steal it. The penalties for stealing wild orchids from public lands and waters are stiff in Florida.

I'm glad I'm well over 18 so I could see the orchids. =D That first blue/violet orchid is my favorite.

@ aihfl: that sounds like a very cool job. I think Florida would be an amazing place to kayak though I would constantly be worrying about alligators.;)

Not nearly as bad as getting those damn tasty gopher tortoises... they won't even give you a fine; they'll put you under the jail for that lol

The only time I'm worried about an alligator is if I don't catch it to make a good dinner, OMG they're so good

I had to tell people from up naaawth that alligators generally want to be as far away from you as you want to be from them :D though I've seen some monster specimens out in the wild and it is a bit unnerving. Crocodiles are a different story, though they far less tolerant of the cold and are restricted to extreme South Florida. I know I would have a heightened sense of awareness in The Everglades now that man-eating Nile Crocs have been found there.

Never cared too much for alligator. It always tasted like a lake bottom to me, but maybe that's not typical. There was a guy in Sanford that caught a 4 footer in Lake Jessup but he got bitten and Fish and Wildlife showed up at the hospital and arrested him. Have you been to Grills Seafood on the Intracoastal in Melbourne? We have one in Orlando now at the marina where my sailboat is. I should try the gator bites again next time I go.
