First, some background from Fifty Shades of Grey
February 13, 2015

----------------------------------------
"This movie is based on novels by E. L. James (a woman), which were bestsellers among mostly female readers.

The story, if you are not a woman who read the books is about a college student, Anastasia "Ana" Steele (Dakota Johnson) who does an interview with a very rich, handsome, charming and mysterious corporate leader, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).

He seems stricken by her awkwardness and honesty and she is interested in him as well and they start seeing each other casually - even tho they live in different realities. Her reality is one of traditional romantic love and his is one of a dominance paraphilia. As he bluntly told her 'I don?t make love, I fuck.' He introduces her slowly to his world.

While watching this movie (of which I was not the targeted audience) it reminded me of another series of movies designed for another demografic that I also enjoyed - the Twilight series. In fact, I am not alone in this observation as several other reviewers mentioned it and even the setting is in Seattle Washington. While watching the close-ups of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey and the dialogue of them being from such different backgrounds and even him trying to push her away while craving her so much, I thot of scenes in Twilight between Edward and Bella. I guess we can think of it as Twilight for adult women."

From Fifty Shades Darker

"The story picks up where Ana and Christian have parted ways and she is still a bit miffed but he misses her and convinces her to give him another chance. He is going thru changes from his obsession with being a dominant and tells her she does not have to be a submissive. However, they still have passionate sex - often - and this is beautifully and sensually portrayed on screen. Even getting into some "kinky fuckery," as Ana puts it with light bondage and a little spanking to please her man. (and please herself with a totally turned on man, I'm sure).

All the characters from the original movie resume their roles here with the addition of a couple of troublesome ppl, like Ana's boss at the publishing house, editor Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson) who makes some pushy passes at her as seen in the trailers. Also, we see Elena (Kim Basinger) the older woman and business partner Christian mentioned was his dom when he was younger and whom Ana called "Mrs. Robinson." Oh, and as seen in the trailers there's a troubled young submissive, Leila (Bella Heathcote) from Christian's past who shows up.

The movie is set up for another sequel, Fifty Shades Freed, which was shot simultaneously with this one and will be released next February. I'll have gotten the DVD for this one by then and will re-watch the first two before hitting the theater."

So, that was for anyone who did not watch the first two of this trilogy. but I doubt there are any, because these movies, like Twilight series has a specific following.

This one opens with Christian and Anna getting married and while not appearing as large as Bella & Edward Cullens' wedding, they felt the same. I have heard in a feature on the DVD that Erika Mitchell (E. L. James) wrote Twilight fan fiction so you can see her familiarity with the theme, which is even more apparent in this movie.

After the wedding, Christian takes the new Mrs. Grey on an extravagant honeymoon on "their" private jet, where we get to see the strains of her adjusting to her new role and him adjusting to having a woman who does not do everything he wants. (Edward & Bella)

Of course there has to be some outside danger and there are loose end grudges from the last movie; Christian's jilted former lover Elena and Anna's sexually abusive boss Jack Hyde, whom Christian, thru connections arranged to be fired on the spot.

Just like the awkward Bella who became quite swift and graceful after becoming a vampire, Anna gets more assertive and daring after becoming a billionaire. But, not to worry, besides there being more action in this movie, there are still lots of love scenes bordering on suggestive porn and we still get good views of Dakota Johnson's and Jamie Dornan's beautiful naked bodies to the extent of an R-Rating.

They still play with BDSM, but there are some really sensual, oralscenes or "normal" sex that I prefer.

I really enjoyed this movie, and considered it the best of the three. However, it was roundly trashed by most of the professional critics. The aggregate critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 12% Fresh and only half of audiences liked it. Their consensus was, "Fifty Shades Freed brings its titillating trilogy to a clumsy conclusion, making for a film franchise that adds up to a distinctly dissatisfying menage a trois."

The first movie got only a 27% Fresh and the second one only 10%. But, in all half to 2/3 of audiences liked it. I may even see this one again. It may be like comfort food, which is not always the most nutritious but you like it. This may be a comfort movie for some of us.
