Hey so I am trying to make a post on here, warning about the synergy and risks of LSD, noopept and caffeine, my own bad experiences and the pharmokinetics behind them. What I have learned is that there really isn't enough research right now to pinpoint dangerous dosages in regard to glutamate excitotoxicity and neurotoxicity, as we hardly even understand the pharmacokinetic interactions, but hopefully others can help compliment this post with their own personal experiences to better help quantify what is dangerous. Here is what I found, mostly from Pubmed. So it is theorized LSD is extremely glutamatergic and by increasing glutamate (the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain) the psychoactive effects of LSD and a higher state of consciousness are felt (1). Noopept gets a bit trickier. It is an AMPAkine, acting as an agonist of AMPA receptors to increase glutamate as well (2) (3) (6), and it has been noted to amplify the effects of LSD. What is confusing about this to me is, there are also studies by the same Russians which say Noopept is neuroprotective against the effects of glutamate excitotoxicity and oxidate stress (3). Caffeine is a Gaba inhibitor. Gaba acts as the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter opposite glutamate. Caffeine crosses the blood brain barrier easily (4) so it should also amplify the effects of this combination. So noopept and caffeine, by upregulating AMPA receptors and inhibiting GABA regulation, remove the 2 safeguards in the brain protecting from excitotoxicity (7), (8) Now the only thing I did not know really when I dosed the conservative ~75 ug LSD after having drank a cup and a half of coffee (~180mg caffeine) 2 hours before and taking my daily noopept and alpha GPC after showering earlier was the mechanism of action of Noopept. I thought it was neuroprotective and never bothered to learn more and I made a terrible mistake. I had a truly horrible trip, I was shaking/shivering, felt flushed, hot and cold, and had severe anxiety/paranoia. I am fairly certain I had some degree of glutamate excitotoxicity. It has now been a week and I still feel noticeably foggier than normal, my short term memory is a bit worse, and I just cannot think clearly or follow a train of thought as easily. I also have more tinnitus which is thought to be explained by excitotoxicity (9). I am very concerned about the permanent cognitive effects of my mistake. Now there have been other accounts of people having mixed noopept and LSD and having similar terrible trips and there have been a few accounts of people having just very intensified trips.
