Bad anxiety after MDMA comedown please help

Hi, this is the first time i'd ever done any drug like this I'm female and 20, so I dropped around a third of a gram of MDMA last friday, i felt fine the day after however on the sunday I had terrible heart palpitations where my heart rate shot to around 140. I went to the doctor who said it will pass, then it went back to normal between 70-100 depending on what I was doing however I then developed tonsillitis. Now I've been taking antibiotics for the tonsillitis however constantly feel slightly panicky as if my heart rate is going up even though it never exceeds 100 bpm anymore which is within the normal range.. My friends all took the same drug however none of them had any negative effects. When will I ever feel normal again? Or do you think it may be related to the tonsillitis and go once that has cleared? Just want to stop feeling so anxious about my heart.. I had an ECG and everything came back as normal.
I just need some reassurance that I'll be okay so I can go back to university work and my job and socialise again..
 
Welcome to Blue Light! I am sorry you are having a tough time right now. One important thing to know is that it is a cruel trick of nature that anxiety makes your heart rate go up. Because if that anxiety is caused by worry over your heart rate, it creates a vicious cycle. If you begin to feel anxiety that your heart rate could go up, it fulfills itself and does go up due to the anxiety.

It is a good thing you have been to the doctor. You have heard from a medical professional that your heart is healthy, so you are okay. It sounds to me like you are stuck in a heart-related anxiety loop like I explained above. It will go away with time. The more time that passes, the more you will see that nothing terrible is happening which will make you slowly become more comfortable. Once the anxiety goes down and begin to forget about your heart you will break out of the loop. Both my RL friend and I have experienced something like this.

Definitely abstain from taking any more MDMA or really any stimulant drugs for a good while. I think your heart is fine, but the likelihood that your anxiety will resurface and get you back into this loop is high if you use stimulants again in the near future.

Well, if you keep using MDMA, the comedown will be worst each time. If you are still early on in your active addiction then you should return back to normal after a couple of months.

I don't understand how when the OP stated it was her first time using "any drug like this", and there was no mention of any other drug use, you automatically jump to her being in active addiction?? Also, "take ecstasy, and you're the guinea pig."?? What kind of goofy quote is that? The effects of MDMA are pretty well studied, and it's pretty well tolerated with reasonable dosage in most individuals. Yes, abuse is likely to cause long term damage, but there's no evidence that intermittent use will. And of course, there's the question of purity/adulterants as with all street drugs, which is a very big health issue, and one not to be overlooked.(and one we have prohibition to thank for)That's why multiple reagent tests which are pretty easily available(although not to all unfortunately) are highly,highly recommended for street mdma. Also, nowadays I highly recommend the fentanyl test strips to all street drug users, even if not using opioids, as it can and does end up in all types of drugs. Of course, actual lab testing(GC/MS) would be the best, but that's available to almost nobody, unless you're in Europe. Best yet of course would be legalization and regulation, but I digress. And no, I don't advocate drug use, but I don't condemn it either, and I do advocate for safe drug use and harm reduction, which is what this site is all about.

Anyway, to lilylove12749, it seems unlikely that heart palpitations had anything to do with MDMA, since they happened so long after the dose. However, since you really have no idea what's in street drugs without testing, you could have taken any number of compounds unknowingly. With the ECG being fine, and all of your friends being fine, it sounds like you have nothing to worry about. I do agree with Trabbamb, I would definitely stay away from any stimulants for a good while.

Woah, hold on. First of all, you cant really be dependant on mdma, your brain doesnt have enough serotonin... the effects quickly diminish, if you were using daily by the third day you would have no pleasurable effects.

Yes you can abuse mdma by using it every weekend, and that is bad for you, but I wouldnt call it addiction and even if it was OP said it was her first time.

Well, physical dependence and psychological addiction are two different things. I wouldn't say it's impossible to be addicted to MDMA, but yeah, to jump to calling it addiction when OP said it was her first time was completely ridiculous.
 
Stick with it. Try not to do any other substances. (I may get some heat for this but) DONT EVEN SMOKE WEED. Keep a positive attitude, if your religious, utilize that. Utilize anything positive. "Am I gonna be stuck this way?" Its a scary question that i've had to ask myself many times. Its a real question, I think your going to be ok. Eat well, drink plenty of water. Stay busy, its going to pass. If you keep positive, your brain can better do its part to help the body.

This is absolutely untrue.

The comedown is not worse each time.

She said this was her first time using a drug like this so I don't see the need for saying she is in active addiction. Please refrain from jumping to conclusions or making up information.


OP: You took a rather high dose for anyone, especially a first time user. I don't know your weight, but I am quite experienced with this drug and have been anywhere between 190 lbs - 230 lbs when using it and I usually take no more than 150 mgs maybe 75 - 100 mg boost (which some people claim works and others claim to be useless, I find it works for me at festivals when I want a longer roll.)

I have never experienced any bad comedowns from this substance, other than having to push through work on Mondays after a weekend of partying. I know many people that have, so it is always different for each user.

The first thing I would suggest is make sure what you took was MDMA, if you are going to continue experimenting with this substance get a full range test kit, marquis reagent and simon's.

The suggestions I've gotten when I first started (which I don't always listen to, but are good general guidelines) is keep your rolls to 3-4 times PER YEAR. Spread them out every 3 months or so.

Eat healthy, get your vitamins and minerals from eating healthy foods and meals.

I've prestacked with 5-htp and gone without it and haven't noticed much difference. With the possibility for serotonin syndrome I would suggest not bothering.

As far as your current situation. Stay away from any intoxicants that you may use, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, opiates, stimulants, caffeine, etc.

Exercise regularly and eat full nutritious meals.

Remember, the human body and especially the brain / mind is incredibly powerful and able to recover from so much. Don't stress out about this, try and stay as calm and healthy as possible. If you are comfortable talking to your doctor, do that. Good luck! All will be well.
 
Sorry to hear of your trouble lily. I got horrible come down from MDMA when I used many many years ago. A lot of anxiety and paranoia as well as trembling and twitching. I would go hard all weekend and then Monday at work was just hell.

All I would suggest is patience. This will pass, just breathe deeply and slowly when you feel panicky and this will relieve most of your panic. I bet you already feel heaps better and you will just keep feeling better as your body regains its equilibrium.

Unfortunately, some user's of 'MDMA' react poorly to it. I would advise quitting while you're ahead.
 
It's been two and a half weeks and I'm still feeling constantly anxious like there is a knot in my stomach, my heart rate is averaging 90 bpm and I'm just so worried which I think is making it all worse... just need some reassurance that all of this will pass. I know it's nothing physiological but this anxious feeling just can't be shook. It's worse when I'm alone or watching movies or something. Tends to be unnoticable when I'm doing everyday activities or walking. I do notice that my heart rate is higher than it should be though.

I might add, that I'm still on antibiotics for the tonsillitis infection I got during my comedown (Clarithromycin) and could this possibly be the reason I'm not feeling myself yet? I have two more days to go until I've finished the course.

Just need some advice!!
 
It will pass with a combination of time, healthy eating and avoiding drugs for a while. :)

Decreased serotonin is thought to promote anxiety. An infection can cause an immune response which can raise heart rate but you would probably feel a bit feverish too. Unfortunately, feeling feverish can be a symptom of anxiety!

I suggest some deep breathing and relaxation exercises to help lower your heart rate. There is science behind that notion, deep slow breathing can decrease the release of stress hormones and promote a calm state. Shallow breathing triggers the hyperventilation reflex and can induce a state like panic.
