so yeah, looks like it's paywalled, but the summary makes an interesting point nonetheless

Cryptococcal meningitis is a life-threatening condition most commonly observed in immunocompromised individuals. We describe a daily cannabis smoker without evidence of immunodeficiency presenting with confirmed Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis. An investigation of cannabis samples from the patient?s preferred dispensary demonstrated contamination with several varieties of Cryptococcus, including C. neoformans, and other opportunistic fungi. These findings raise concern regarding the safety of dispensary-grade cannabis, even in immunocompetent users.

a good reminder that even if you trust your supplier they can't ensure every nug is 100% safe from funky shit hitching a ride, best way to avoid this kind of thing is to grow your own green or, for dispensary products, extracts and edibles are more likely to be safer. either way if your green looks/smells wet/mouldy, don't risk it

Seeing as C. neoformans is very common and found everywhere in things like dirt, this further proves that the tired use of the word "organic" is anything but a healthier solution.

Just another name in the long list of contaminants that are needed to be tested for.

Most legal states do their best. Ever seen a lab analysis sheet for a batch of weed in Oregon? They test for tooooooons of shit. I'm sure they can't catch everything, but I feel a lot better paying $10 a gram knowing a lab is testing this rather than cheap stuff from a friend or whatever not being tested and having god knows what on it.

Here's an example for anyone wondering
