Two Toronto police officers who allegedly ingested marijuana edibles, hallucinated and called for help while on duty Sunday have been suspended, CBC News has learned.

Both officers are under investigation by the force's professional standards unit following an incident that happened Sunday, according to Mark Pugash, a spokesperson for Toronto Police Service.

CBC News has learned the officers, who work at 13 Division, were on duty not far from the station at Eglinton Avenue West and Allen Road when they allegedly ingested pot edibles.

Police sources tell CBC News the officers began to complain of "hallucinations" and one made a call for an officer needing assistance. Both officers were found in a police vehicle and later treated in hospital.

During the call, another officer responding to the scene slipped on ice and required medical attention. That officer suffered a head injury.

Judge calls Toronto cop who ate cannabis chocolate on duty a 'complete idiot'

A Toronto police officer who ate a marijuana-laced chocolate bar seized in a pot shop raid has pleaded guilty to attempting to obstruct justice.

Const. Vittorio Dominelli says he is remorseful and ashamed of his actions on the evening of Jan. 27.

Justice Mary Misener says Dominelli is a "complete idiot" for tampering with evidence.

Crown attorney Philip Perlmutter, who read out an agreed statement of facts in court, says Dominelli took three hazelnut chocolate bars infused with cannabis oil from the raid.

Perlmutter says Dominelli and another officer later ate one chocolate bar and became intoxicated in about 20 minutes, and eventually radioed for help.

'Idiot' Toronto police officer gets six months house arrest for eating evidence: a pot-laced chocolate bar

NEWMARKET, Ont. -- A Toronto police officer who stole and ate a pot-laced chocolate bar seized during a raid on an illegal dispensary will have to spend six months under house arrest as part of a sentence to be served in the community, a judge ruled Monday, saying his actions could not go unpunished.

Vittorio Dominelli, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to attempting to obstruct justice, will spend the rest of his nine-month conditional sentence under supervision and will also have to serve 60 hours of community service.

Justice Mary Misener, who presided over the case, said the 36-year-old acted recklessly in order to satisfy his curiosity about marijuana, putting others at risk.

"His decision to take the cannabis was both impetuous and immature," she said. "He was wandering outside in a haze. That is the state he put himself in while armed with a handgun … the danger to the public is obvious."

Misener noted, however, that Dominelli was not a corrupt officer and "did not act for nefarious purposes."
