Is this a common use item? It seems to have escaped classification. It was popular over 100 years ago.
 
This is not a common use item, I have only ever known one person to be on it and they were in a high security psychiatric facility.

If you read the drug schedule you will see it is a schedule 4 drug. I have asked to try it for my medication resistant chronic insomnia and was told no and laughed at in a joking manner.
 
Very interesting substance. I haven't heard of it. A quick look at Wikipedia gives a lot of fascinating details:

-it's a "geminal diol" - I have absolutely no idea what that is

-related to chloroform

-an old substance in the sense that it was discovered in the 1830s

-a concentrated version of this substance in alcohol is apparently the/an origin of the 'mickey finn' ("slipping someone a mickey")

-it was used as a sedative before barbiturates (which in turn were used before benzos)
