What foods/drinks should I avoid and are there any that help? Getting conflicting information.

Also, any suggested treatments besides proton pump inhibitors would be great.

Cheers.

Anything acidic or spicy is a no go for an ulcer man.

Flatulence, belching while you are suffering from ulcers is severe pain.
Don't eat spicy food. Also avoid more meat as it may lead to indigestion.

Yeah, I'm following all that advice but my stomach still feels weird. But maybe less so. I'm just gonna take the fucking esemaprozole or whatever it is.

Cabbage juice and sauerkraut are the traditional remedies for stomach ulcers and they tend to be more effective than modern medications. They contain vitamin U and probiotics which heal the lining over time. It has to be unpasteurized sauerkraut or it won't work. If you go the cabbage juice route, it has to be organic cabbage otherwise the probiotic content will be very low.

If you have chronic ulcers that won't heal then you may want to ask your doctor for a breath test to look for h. pylori, which is the bacterial species that tends to cause ulcers in humans.

This is a proven ulcer right?

My mate eats licorice half an hour before meals. She had h pylori and did the green leafy veges and fruits diet, antibiotics for months and inner health plus.

But she added licorice later and it helped fix it.

So if you like licorice you now have an excuse!

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice is next to useless and a gimmick. Use the real thing. The only thing to be aware of about long term licorice use is that it causes potassium to be leeched out of the body via the kidneys, so you can start getting blood pressure problems. In the doses that help ulcers it should be no problem though.

I can't believe I didn't think of licorice in my post above. So obvious. I must be brain dead lately.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm gonna heed what I can :\ :)

Not proven in the sense that nobody has actually laid eyes on it- so it very well could be something else . . . But all symptoms match up with stomach ulcer according to Dr. Though the treatment isn't doing much so . . . :\ I was sick a few weeks back with some kinda virus that made me vomit/shit like a fountain (sorry for tmi ;)) with a nice fever and I didn't eat for a few days and the quack suggested that as a possible causal factor. I get heartburn and stuff normally but its really ramped up.

I do like liquorice so that sounds awesome :) Do you mean black licorice, as in the "lolly" stuff?

I've been vomiting a fair bit which seems unusual for a stomach ulcer (I think) and just generally feeling really crappy and lethargic/depressed so I don't know what to do really. I can't eat much as I have literally no appetite and feel really nauseated and anxious. Also vertigo and other bad things that suck and made me look like a crazy person. :(

I should add that I'm on buprenorpine maintenance and historically would have consumed a fuckload of ibuprofen and paracetamol but not for ages.

I have a stomach ulcer and the only way I describe it is a constant hungry feeling but nauseous with a burn.

I went and did an endoscopy and there it was!

My Dr prescribed omeprazole and I take a supplement called L-Glutamine this stuff is like a miracle, I take morning and night and have virtually no symptoms anymore.

I get really bad indigestion every few weeks, it's strange as it seems to cycle and come and go.

I thought I had a stomach ulcer and thankfully didn't, but I do have a hiatus hernia (A muscle is pushing out of the opening to my stomach and the hole is 3cm wide!).
I was told there are 8 different ways they can fix/cure it but the most effective one is only 40% effective, so the doctors told me they weren't going to do any, apparently they never do for this condition.
They told me to just continue with the lansoprozole and gaviscon for life.

I'd recommend lansoprozole over omeprazole as it's seems to be stronger and faster acting.

Also get some prescription gaviscon tablets (Not the liquid, It's vile!), they're better than the OTC one's.

Milk will sooth your indigestion in short-term but you'll get bad acid rebound!

Read the book about water by the Iranian doctor Dr Batman, it's great treatment for indigestion. He was imprisoned during the Iranian Revolution and only had water to treat a patient who was suffering from intense indigestion.
His studies lead him to believe that indigestion is a salt imbalance and that we just need extra water.

He recommends for indigestion/heart burn downing a pint of water, followed by sipping a pint of water.

^Wouldn't that just dilute stomach acid similar to the rush of saliva you get during heartburn? But still, I will try to increase my water intake.

Ulcers were visually confirmed via endoscopy. However they were said to be partially healed which is good but I'm gonna be eating meds for a while.

I'm told I can still take ranitidine during esemaprazole therapy but I'm not sure how safe it really is... I'm just taking an antacid too.

It's better to consult with the gastroenterologist first, only qualified specialist can prescribe the right treatment. When I had similar issue my doctor advised me to make an endoscopy with a proper medical equipment like this one https://bimedis.com/search/search-items/endoscopy-equipment to view problems within my body without making large incisions. These tests helped doctor to gain a more accurate understanding of the possible cause of my symptoms and make the diagnosis.

Yeah the endoscopy was useful. The treatment I was on has worked pretty well, no longer vomiting or feeling that weird gnawing pains everywhere. I've stopped the PPI and am just taking ranitidine and an antacid as needed. Hopefully this is the end of it...
