Viagra stopped working / ADHD / drug-interaction

I've searched the web for help on my situation. There's plenty of anecdote suggesting viagra can stop working after a while but i haven't found anything that may shine a light on my unique problem. I would be grateful for any wisdom on this matter.

I have been taking viagra since the age of 25. I am 42 now. I take it because I can get a decent erection but needed help to sustain it. Viagra worked like a charm in 25mg or on odd occasion 50mg when i needed extra help. In April this year i started noticing the viagra had a diminished effect. This literally happened over course of 1-2 weeks and was pretty sudden. I increased to 100mg and even this failed to reproduce the quality of erection i was used to. For 15 years i was able to achieve a rock hard erection that lasted hours upon hours given the slightest hint of arousal. As you can imagine i have been pretty distraught.

Coincidentally at around the same time i was diagnosed with ADHD and was put on stimulant medication Concerta which is a long acting version of Ritalin. I played around with the dosage but generally took the lowest available dose 18mg daily. I have read that amphetamine can induce ED but this is temporary and goes away after a few days of stopping medication. I have no idea if this is all related but i have been off the ADHD meds for 3 months now just to ensure it's all out of my system and things have still not improved. I have no idea if the ADHD med and diminished response to viagra is connected but it's the only thing i can think of that has changed.


I have tried to retrace events and one incident sticks in my mind. Just prior to noticing the diminishing effect of viagra, I recall a time where i took the ADHD med and viagra at approx the same time and i had an erection that was the hardest i had ever felt in my life which is saying something. It was like my boner had a life of its own. I don't think it was priapism because is went down after 30 min or so. It just seems bizarre that from this point in roughly speaking things started to go downhill

I know there are many people who suddenly find viagra stops working but my experience just seems baffling. For 15 years it worked great then one day it works better then ever and then stops working in days that followed. How can that be? Did the ADHD meds play a part? If so why has the effect been permanent despite stopping the ADHD meds?


I have tried Cialis and Levitra and they don't work either. My testosterone is normal. I have had a doppler sound test and that confirms my flow into and out of penis is perfect. To be clear my ability, or lack thereof, to obtain an erection has not changed, it's the specific response to viagra that has fallen away drastically.

I appreciate any thoughts on this and how to fix. Also apologies if this topic should go elsewhere on bluelight. I am new round here.

I'm on Cialis Daily for mild ED and enlarged prostate. I've read and researched literally hundreds and hundreds of hours, the vast majority of it anecdotal mixed with studies and talking to the pros, who actually helped me a LOT in realizing that I didn't need more than 5mg of Cialis Daily because 99% of my problem was psychological related to decades of porn and sex addiction. In order of importance, getting off of porn, stopping masturbation completely, getting some medication and getting into a wonderful relationship has pretty much cured the ED.

That said...

You can't have an erection without Viagra? Why? What's physically wrong with you? T is okay and you have good flow. So why do you need the V? Do you have MAJOR heart disease? It sounds like you have a psychological dependence on Viagra.

2 things. Amphetamines can have a longing affect on erections. Some, like phentermine can even shrink your penis size.

Also, for any ED medicine to work, you must also be in the mood. Without the desire, it will not work at all.
You can see if you can go to 100mgs. But that needs to be approved by your physician.

It seems like you understand this question well. One of my friends has a problem. He has ED and I don't know how helping him.
