My brother recently has undergone an extremely harsh life disruption from acute and fairly severe HPPD. His case was one of the few where it was only caused by marijuana use with no other drugs involved whatsoever.
This is a link to a case study that is almost exactly what my brother experienced to a T for reference -

Now this article is on an SSRI, paroxetine. From the symptoms and known mechanisms, I strongly believe that this is the same thing happening in the eye when it comes to HPPD. This would really be an effect from neurotransmitters, not a cause but it's a decent start.

My brother has been in and out of specialists while me and him compile information and anecdotal evidence. It's been especially rough to watch because he is one of the most intelligent kids/people I've ever seen but his symptoms have severely disrupted his life.
Not sure if this would be considered to be a sticky but my hope is that if enough people compiled actually medical evidence such as the tests listed on rxisk.org, then it would eventually be recognized as a condition by the medical community and treatment sought since there are a large number of people that live and suffer with the condition but cannot find adequate help.
Hope this helps someone!
