Wow. One of the most fascinating and artistic film series is back. The latest offering from Lynch's Twin Peaks world both mesmerized and enthralled me, and I shivered in quasi-post-coitus nostalgia and satisfaction. Figured I'd start this thread to share ideas and discuss the new episodes, er "parts."

I really feel they picked up the quality so far. I wasn't the biggest fan of TOS as it got campy and over emotional and stopped watching it. And Im a big Lynch Fanboi. If you liked Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive then give this a go as I feel it really connects with everything, even Blue Velvet really.

^The Original Series

Usually in reference to Star Trek, but in this case used for the first two seasons of Twin Peaks circa the 1990s.

Haven't gotten around to watching this yet. Don't have Showtime. Probably gonna have to find it elsewhere >.>

The Return is excellent.

The original was campy at times because of all the network shit they (and everybody else in television) had to deal with at times.

Some episodes were excellent, some were just alright, others were pure trash put out there to please the network execs and casual viewers that couldn't wrap their heads around the idea that something other than sitcoms and soap operas could exist on television. In between these highs and lows however, Twin Peaks would occasionally expose us to divine moments of pure, crystalline truth.

The dancing midget, the lucid dreams, the Black Lodge, the Giant, the owls, and Bob were what the show was really about, and whatever you had to sit through to come to these moments was worth it in the end.

Also, Lynch is godlike with the visuals. Nothing gives me the creeps quite like a Lynchian glance at a parallel universe.

And poor Cooper. 25 years. That's fucked. "Hello-oh-oh!"

Let's not forget the sound production --- AMAZING. I'll never be able to go to a casino again...without saying "Helllooooooo."

Amazing show!

So impressed, that scene with Michael Cera had me in tears.

Hopefully, tears of laughter!

Man, parts 6 and 7 start getting grim as shit!!!

Did anyone catch part 8? Man, I had to watch it twice... it was as intense and exhausting, as it was thought-provoking.

Loved it, I had many doubts about the return of the series but tbh am much more impressed with the reboot than the original.

Part 11 was insane!!!

To be honest, I’m a bit late to this one. I’m going back and watching over the original two seasons, before I delve into the new season.

There’s quite an interesting interview with some self-proclaimed Twin Peaks “super fans” here: https://filmdaily.co/blog/obsessions/superfans-reveal-twin-peaks-endurance/

It’s rather neat to learn how people got into the show back when it first aired, and how they’ve remained committed ever since (some more than others).

I just finished episode 4. With tos being my favorite show of all time, I must admit I'm rather disappointed with the Return. In fact, I think the vulgarity, for lack of a better term, that HBO permits is part of what is turning me off. Not to mention the fact that I can't follow much of anything and the visuals have become so odd and... shaky? The trippy dream sequences of the original were better in their own right, but perhaps I'm just nostalgic. I'm enjoying how Fire Walk with Me is being tied in so far though. While it was a disappointment really, it still has it's place in the overall story arc. The return of most of the actors brings a smile to my face as well.

I feel like the poor quality of tv footage in the 90s was part of the charm of the original, and with the high-def nature of the Return it seems to have lost a part of that. Some of it is retained, but mostly through nostalgia and references than through the nature of the show itself. The cheesy part when Bobby tears up over Laura again really did it for me, I miss the campiness!

I'll reserve final judgement for when I finish the series. For the moment though, I'm on the fence.

Also, did anyone notice Jacques Renault in the bar?! WTF? I thought he was snuffed?! It's literally the same actor, I looked it up. I wonder if that was an accident or just to fuck with us heh :?

let me know your thoughts on that really strange black/white episode btw :)
I basically felt cheated of an hour of my life. That's the kind of shit that keeps producing companies from funding Lynch to make more stuff. Could have all been done in half that time and with half the confusion...

Wait, are you saying you didn't like episode 8?

You and I have absolutely nothing in common and should probably never speak to one another every again ?

Yep, I hated it. It was the antithesis of what Twin Peaks used to be. I think that Lynch is at his best when there's someone there to hold him back and reign him in. I gleamed things from episode 8, but I could have gleamed them in half the time he ended up wasting.

Ironically, I was most perturbed by the 2001: A Space Odyssey-esque parts of that; yet I think 2001 may be one of, if not the finest films of all time. It's all about execution. At the end of 2001 I didn't feel like my time had been wasted; in fact, 2001 is the closest explanation of the divine I can think of that I've seen in film. At the end of episode 8 of the return, I felt like I had been robed blind by a conman.

right on, appreciate the honest thoughts. i get the "someone to hold him back" i recall the return almost not happening cause showtime wouldn't allow lynch do go all out with his vision. ep8 fit within twin peaks story and explains bob/evil. the duration of the eps didn't bother me, i was transfixed by what i saw on the tele, surreal entertainment in a way only lynch can deliver.

I wasn't drunk enough I guess lol. I definitely see how it fit within the arc, though the black faced hobos are weird/silly and I'm curious to see how they'll fit in over all. The following episodes are much more enjoyable so far (through 12) and my fiance and I feel it's more of a return to Twin Peaks post episode 8.

Also, I totally didn't realize that was Jim Belushi at the casino lol, spot on heheh
