SWIM was recently given about 35 seeds, of an unknown strain. They were kept in an old chewing tobacco container, which was not cleaned at all. As soon as they were given to swim, he used metal tweezers to transfer them to a clean pill bottle.
Swim's first attempt to germinate involved 6 seeds. He folded 6 paper towels about 7 times, wet them, and put them in a shoe box. The seeds were gently placed in the middle of the towels folds with tweezers, 1 seed per towel. SWIM also opened up packages of hand warmers and placed them underneath the shoe box for warmth. He replenished the water eveey day or so, trying not to overwater, but admittedly spilled water all over the inside of the shoe box multiple times. Swim was using Poland Spring, but was pouring straight from the bottle. Two weeks later, the seeds looked the same.
Swim's second germination attempt was 5 days ago. This time he put all of the seeds in a cup of poland spring water and let them soak in a dark place for 30 hours. Then swim used tweezers to transfer them to a paper towel. Using an old iphone box he put down a wet paper towel, placed 6 seeds on it, and folded the towel over the top. Swim poked holes in the top of his water bottle cap this time to keep water flow slow and in control to prevent overwatering. He also put down 1 handwarmer beneath the box, and replaced it every day or so. There has been no results.
Three days ago swim also put two seeds in a cup of water in a dark place, swim has left them there to see if this method works better.

Swim is starting to get become discouraged by his shitty fucking seeds. Should he try something different? Should he be patient and see if his second germination attempt will pan out? Advice? Thanks

It's possible they're not viable seeds.

Another thing to consider is that you're going to spend quite a bit on nutrients, etc over the course of the plant's life, so it's worth your effort to not grow a crappy bagseed. Buying seeds can be quite cheap and will guarantee you the best results.

The plan was to germinate and take through the vegetative stage indoors, but then go plant them deep in the woods. The location provides plenty of sun. Other then provide decent soil for the plants, he was going to leave them be and see what happens. This is the first grow, so expectations aren't really high. Would investing in seeds be worth it? And is it too late in season to get a solid grow in?

Your season depends on your location. Chances are leaving seedlings in the woods will not produce a good crop.
