Rest in Peace Col. Bruce Hampton

Was coming to post this. Like many, I considered him a friend. He married my best friend at a cabin outside of Asheville after Xmas jam a few years ago and I had the great pleasure of dining on BBQ with him many times here in Atlanta. I did not make the show last night but have been a regular at his residency at the Vista Room over the past few months. Countless late nights at the northside tavern and so many sit ins with my favorite bands, not to mention all of the bands he formed over the years. I've seen him guess probably 20 people's birthday and get within at least a couple of days and heard him tell stories of playing with the allman brothers when they did free shows at Piedmont park in the early 70's.

The most approachable and humble musician I've ever met. Hell, more approachable and humble than some of my best friends.

He loved my wife to death. He was so kind to her. She is a mess over this. I have some great pics of us that I've been looking at all day.

Tragic, yet ironically fitting for him to go out like he did. I'm sure he couldn't have scripted a better death for himself.

Cheers to our daddy! RIP, Bruce. We will miss you so much.

Here is a link to the show from last night. Not sure on the sound quality. I haven't listened yet.

I've spent all week reading articles and watching videos. Jon Fishman really knocked it out of the park with this.

Since I was a teenager I've never believed in an afterlife, but as I sit here at 38 years old, I'm questioning it again. I'm probably just in shock and in a few weeks I'll chalk it up to irony.

But, for now, I truly feel like the physical world lost a soul and the universe gained a star. Space is the place......

Bruce played the ultimate joke on us and I hope he's laughing his ass off right now. This is the most wicked and cosmic death ever.
