Bladder/kidney issues from dissociative abuse

I've been suffering from bladder/kidney issues (frequent urination, incontinence) from abusing dissociatives (MXE, 3-MeO-PCP, Ketamine, etc.) over the past five years or so. I've discontinued using the drugs for six months but am still experiencing these problems, frequent urination being the most frustrating.

I did see a general physician about it a few years ago who ran some tests that turned up normal results for kidney/bladder function. He prescribed me medication that I took for five days. The only thing I remember it doing was turning my urine orange, no change in symptoms. I did continue using the drugs after that, though, so it's hard to say how it may have affected me. I've also tried a number of herbs and supplements marketed for bladder and kidney health, but none have really done anything remarkable.

Does anyone have experience with bladder/kidney issues from dissociative abuse who can recommend something to take, or point me in the right direction?

Thanks <3

Genetics plays the major role in anyone's ability to process all substances both natural and man made chemicals. Your genes determine how everything your body will function but at the same time genetics also are the cause of certain normal bodily productions not working effectively or right. All in all, in order to keep this as simple as possible because the totality of understanding genetics is too convoluted of a subject, we all differ in how our bodies react to anything we consume. However, a generalized assumption can be determined by collecting data more from those you are related too than by asking random people. If you rather chose another route of investigation, I suggest you research all known substances that have been recorded to be the causations of your condition that affect the majority of those who were exposed to the particular chemicals. You will be surprise to learn that even the consumption of over-the-counter vitamins to antibiotics have been the culprits behind many health issues...

Was at my GP today to get a referral for a urologist. I'm a heroin addict and I fear I have either poisoned my kidneys or done something neurological. I drink tons of water(tap filtered) which I'm changing. I feel like my shit has just gotten lazy and feel some pain down there, already been checked for BPH and scored very low on PSA test. I don't have any regular symptoms, just pain which I hide by my drug and weak stream just lazy. I quit drinking cokes in January as this could be a cause. Will update after urologist appointment.

Thanks for your contribution. Ketamine and related drugs have been correlated with severe bladder and kidney issues. I can't speak with utter certainty about the cause of the problems I experience, but I think it's very likely that my dissociative drug abuse has created or at least exacerbated those problems.

Thank you. I will consider going to see a urologist about my issues if they get worse. Fortunately, nothing has gotten worse, just remained about the same.

Just a suggestion

Try eliminating caffeine from your diet if you havent tried this already and see how you get on

(Energy Drinks, Coffee, Tea)

I think that if you haven't been diagnosed with some kind of severe organ damage then it's probably not too severe and not too dissimilar to what a lot of people experience as they grow older.

I'm in a similar situation although I haven't really abused ketamine. Then again, friends are also in a similar situation who have. None of us have chronic problems or anything, we just tend to urinate a lot so I do wonder if its just a normal part of growing up, possibly exacerbated by ketamine but not really indicative of chronic damage. The people with actual ketamine bladder damage have very serious diagnosable problems.

I think the best course of action would be to do frequent kegel exercises to strengthen the muscle which controls urination, along with trying to hold off going to the toilet and therefore training yourself psychologically.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm sensitive to caffeine so I limit intake. I sometimes go days without any at all, but on a normal day I will have about 200mg caffeine at most. I usually just take a single 100mg caffeine/200mg l-theanine pill in the morning. I am surely using the bathroom more frequently while the caffeine is in effect, but I don't notice a difference with the incontinence and frequent urination overnight.

That could very well be the case. I might be a little hypochondriacal in regards to the damage I've done because it all seems to stem from the drug abuse. I recall when I was younger and could sleep through the entire night without having to get up to use the bathroom at all, now it's at least two times a night so it seem like some change has occurred. I'm still relatively young at 28, but I feel like an old man sometimes with these problems. I'll give kegel exercises a try, thank you.

Ok so after all my tests came back in great shape, no infection, no high levels anywhere on CBC. Dr said that gassyness in large intestine could be causing extra bloating in my abdominal wall. I told him I was pretty regular but did use a lot of miralax to combat constipation. The kicker is that the urologist referred me to a GI specialist after looking over my test results and a quick sonogram. My GP called and we discussed a probiotic. He prescribed me a medical probiotic called VSL#3 well it has cleared everything up. No constipation, no swollen abdominal and the piss I took was like I was 18 and felt like a freaking orgasm. I have only been taking it for six day thurs. I have had no constipation, just drinking my water and eating healthy. My kidneys did hurt for the first couple of days but was told that could be due to toxins leaving my system. It may not be the answer to all but I was eating healthy and doing all that I should other than abusing heroin(which I have cut back on).
My energy is thru the walls and I have been exercising semi regular, but like I said it has been six days. Urologist agreed that probiotics are healthy for urinary tract as well. I will keep all posted in this thread, I take one packet a day and it's 2.30 or so a day but I have not supplemented anything else with this. Other benefit is I'm pooping like a champ, no straining sometimes twice a day. I feel great. Now on a plan to get back off the drugs. I do think that with straining and flushing out my bowels I May have gotten rid of all the good stuff needed to break down the toxins. Pisss smells normal as well as my Bm's. You may not need a prescription for a good Probiotic but Dr said the junk sold on shelfs was a rip and mostly dead and ineffective. He said only use something that has been refrigerated however the one I'm on is medical and super high potency. Sorry for blog.

PS. I became addicted on Pain Management, found heroin to be cheaper, but I am an addict.

I was told to always stand to urinate as sitting takes off the actual muscles used to get a good stream going. Makes sense. Best of luck. Seems like there aren't many refrigerated probiotics, health store is best bet. Give it a try as I feel amazing after 6-8 months of misery.

Something else I'll add is that I have heard ketamine can cause bladder issues. I only did it once myself, but knew people who did it frequently. Most of them were of the opinion that the bladder damage from it wasn't common or serious, but who knows honestly. Since it's entirely synthetic (e.g. not natural like weed or mushrooms, not derived from a plant like opiates are), it's possible there are side effects that are still not completely understood. I don't know what part of the world you are from so I can't say with certainty if this is true where your from but where I'm from, all doctors are completely confidential in terms of not discussing one's drug use with anyone. In general, I'd say that telling the doctor about the exact dissociatives you were taking, how much of them, etc. would be a good idea if you haven't yet.

^Maybe the doc won't tell his buddies about you while playing golf but you can be damn sure anything and EVERYTHING you tell him/her goes straight into your records. JS.

True, it goes on your medical records..... though that's generally just visible to other doctors that one visits rather than the general public. The only exception to that would be if the medical records were hacked which has been known to happen on very, very rare occasion but almost always it's high profile/famous individuals targeted for that sort of thing. Generally speaking, this wouldn't be a concern unless one was a high profile/famous person. I also may be rather leery if I happened to have mutual associates/friends with the doctor that I wished to hide my substance use from. Otherwise, it's not something that I'd personally worry about, particularly if I was in OP's position where there were significant health issues caused by a substance. If the latter is a concern, I'd go as far as to say maybe switch doctors to someone OP feels comfortable talking to about the past use of dissociatives because it sounds like that could potentially be extremely important.

For the record, I am still suffering with these issues. I get up at least 3-4 times a night to go pee. I think it has no doubt affected my sleep hygiene, which in turn has caused issues in other areas. My hope is that this will one day subside, if not completely heal, but for now it is something I have to live with.

Check on Dr Morse protocol which is axed on getting the kidney filtering / fruitgivore diet
