AUS: Repeat child sex offender released into Townsville community after court battle

A repeat child sex offender has been released back into the community under supervision following a court ruling.

Judge Burns ruled in favour of 44-year-old man Anton Greg Williams in the Supreme Court of Queensland after agreeing with the advice of three psychiatrists that it was possible for Mr Williams to be released provided be could be supervised in community-supported accommodation.
Mr Williams was born in Mount Isa and raised on Mornington Island, where he lived for most of his life when not in custody. He had a difficult childhood, being raised by several different people at various times and he also received minimal education leaving him illiterate and innumerate.

On November 22, 1990 Mr Williams pleaded guilty in Mount Isa District Court after being accused of sexual acts with at least five boys including anal and oral sex and masturbation. The offences occurred when he was 18 years old on Mornington Island and resulted in three years probation.

On December 8, 2014 Mr Williams pleaded guilty in Townsville District Court to multiple charges of indecent treatment of children after he committed various sexual acts with a group of boys aged five to 12 years old. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

In July, the Attorney-General applied for Mr Williams to be detained indefinitely and Mr Williams was held in custody after his scheduled release date of December 11 while the search for suitable accommodation was ongoing.
During proceedings, the case drew on three psychiatric assessments of the respondent, one of which was conducted by Dr Beech.

The psychiatrist said Mr WIlliams was an alcoholic with a well-documented history of mental illness including chronic schizophrenia and also carried cognitive impairments after a fall as a child.

The respondent started drinking during his childhood and when on Mornington Island would usually consume a six-pack of home-brew beer on a daily basis. He said alcohol caused "the voices to come back" which would "tell him to do bad things such as steal and sniff petrol". Mr Williams also said that at times the voices told him to "hang himself" and "to have sex with young boys".

Dr Beech reported the respondent appeared to blame his victims for his offending or to shift responsibility onto his mental illness, the voices or alcohol. The psychiatrist considered there to be little victim empathy.

The psychiatrists agreed Mr Williams was a high risk of offending again but didn't think that accommodating him in prison would be suitable. Instead they supported the respondent's release on supervision, provided he was placed in community supported accommodation to manage the risk that he would reoffend.

The decision was made to relocate him to Wotton Lodge in Townsville where he could receive up to 60 hours of support a week.

"In my opinion, the adequate protection of the community can be reasonably and practicably managed by a supervision order incorporating the conditions incorporated in the draft supervision order," Judge Burns said.

It is my opinion that people who are capable of and willing to sexually violate children who by definition cannot consent to such behaviour, should never be allowed to be part of the community. They are a danger to our most vulnerable, and need to be locked away from the rest of the community.

There should be a facility built specifically for those who harm children that is segregated from the general prison population. Something like SuperMax, but with additional facilities such as chemical castration, even castration, for the most serious offenders.
 
Also what a shame, that this schizo babyfucker didn't obey the voices telling him to kill himself first.
 
Why release him? It's like releasing a rabid tiger on to the streets. The way I see it, the only options are life in prison (expensive to the taxpayer), death penalty (probably the best way to handle something like this but people would object), or drop them into the wilderness or some other solution to the problem that keeps them away from society permanently. I think that all people who commit sex crimes, particularly predators who target children as well as murderers should never be released back out on the streets.

The risk of them re offending is high, and it's socially irresponsible that some judges do in fact release them. The real reason why the judge released him is probably funding/space related issues in the prison system rather than that the judge actually thought letting this guy out was a good idea.

This is where the death penalty comes into play or they could be flown into the wilderness and technically given the chance to survive by living off the land. And they'd be permanently separated from society and this would be of no expense to the taxpayer. One could appeal to the bleeding heart types by pointing out that it isn't technically execution as they could theoretically live off the land like the guy in castaway.

Aside from either locking them up for life, executing them outright or simply dumping them in the middle of the wilderness and then just forgetting about him, there's no other solution. Chemical castration is not necessarily effective at preventing them from offending. Even actual castration isn't always enough to stop them. Permanent separation from society is the only answer.
 
Also, it is a damn shame that he didn't act on the voices that told him to hang himself.
 
Wow thats an incredibly short sentence for his crimes and I suspect the system didnt want to spend any more money housing and tending to him- these *people* get pretty specialist and segregated treatment unfortunately.

Better to not bother and keep him in the general population, I dont care if that offends anyone who thinks they deserve any more attention than anyone else as they don't.

Good to know the welfare of the communities vilnerable young counts for jack shit.

Thank fuck we left that area as this would be a cause to join and protest against.

Yeah, if he was going to be released ever, then give him a decent knife, a tin containing medical supplies, a book with a guide to the local flora and how to use them for food and medicine, a spear and perhaps a large caliber pistol with a couple of clips, then release him somewhere where he cannot offend.

Although personally I'd just take up a double barrel shotgun and line him and the judge up together and put a slug round in the face of both of them.
 
First let me say I agree with those saying he (and others with similar convictions) should be permanently incarcerated or just "dealt with" if you get that....I think you do.

Two questions though...like Zephyr I'm very surprised with the length of these sentences, so short! Is Australia typically easy on pedophiles? I doubt it but I'm curious if anyone knows.

Also, I've never been incarcerated and have always wondered if it's true what we all say about these 'things' and how they would be treated in GP. I love the idea of one of these guys being manhandled by some goons should they ever get the chance but I dont know if that's just some fantasy of my own or if that's how things really are.
Do regular prisoners give these clowns what they deserve? Is that true or just a romanticized view of inside-justice?
 
Two options happen. I've been banged up on remand once, and its either that the nonces and other really sick fuck sex offenders etc. go onto a segregated nonce-wing (where food deliveries are something you'd never want to chance consuming, because they are pretty likely to contain some rather unpleasant additives. Its the sort of place you'd never want to go to, even if you are a paedo because everybody knows for sure that you are a nonce. And thus its the ideal opportunity to say, for the cook to slip some cut up razorblades into your tray of runny fibrous grey somewhat organic tissue-based slops, some powdered glass, bleach, jizm or whatever else nasty comes to hand.

Unfortunately its also used as a wing for the vulnerable. For vulnerable prisoners who are not sex offenders to keep them from harm, or thats the intent.

I was not anywhere of the sort. But yeah, prisoners of any kind, even real sickos, like say, a guy that kicked his pregnant gf in the stomach to slam her down the stairs after battering her, even THAT sort of filth, would rip a rapist or paedo to pieces given the chance. They'd get boiling water with sugar dissolved in it thrown in their eyes, hell, although I can't confirm the rumor of nonce-dom in the individual, I know of one fucker that ended up being tortured to the extent that HE inserted a pool-cue up his own arse and jumped down to the floor from a top bed bunk in a sitting position. Gutted himself alive, but was treated and survived. Poor bastard (unless he was indeed a nonce, in which case I'm only sorry I didn't do it to him myself)

Found out about a paedo whilst on the medical wing myself, and lets just say, my introduction came in the form of a runup and flying dropkick to the face off the top of a pool table and subsequently a battering that he won't ever forget, unless sufficient neurological damage was inflicted upon the fat, slobbering kiddy shagging sack of dog ordure.

Would I have killed him given the chance to get away with it scot free? yes. And I'd have done it slowly. I'd have gotten every other inmate with me too, at least anyone not a nonce, and they'd have gone to town on him in a heartbeat if he hadn't rapidly been physically removed from the scene. He'd have been torn limb from limb if the other inmates had not been prevented from getting to him after that flying dropkick and battering senseless.

EVERYBODY despises them. If they can get away with it, often as not some screw will just turn their back and let the thugs, the killers, the robbers, thieves etc. go and rip their fucking balls off.

One wouldhavebeen rapist whilst in there, they threatened to rape somebody and they were dead by next morning, poisoned apparently.

Probably. I'm in the UK myself.

I really can't say as I am in the slightest sorrowful though, if some filthy childshagger ends up meeting swift and definitive administration of justice whilst confined with a pack of rabid thugs of the worst possible nature in the same small enclosure of a wing.

Personally if I was one of the screws, I'd even carefully hand out the occasional length of fine steel braid and keychain links, now and then maybe a packet of arsenic, a wee bit of strychnine and a list of the paedophiles locked up circulated among the inmates.

I certainly wouldn't run off and squeal, I'd leave the thugs to whatever it is they chose to do for unlock times. If 30 odd hench ass thuggish vermin decide to sprint into a cell a few meters by a meter or two, containing a known sex offender, well now, I'd just have no choice but to take it on the lying, thieving, wifebeating, murdering, granny-battering vile thugs' honor and good character that they had suddenly decided no longer to demonize paedophiles but that they were of course, just dogpiling into the cell in order to render humble apologies for any past uncomplimentary words spoken to said nonces.

Who am I not to honor the recognizance of these..err...people? that they were simply paying a friendly social call.

Although one thing I do have issues with, is the use of the same wings to incarcerate both disgusting nonces AND the vulnerable prisoners, people who've done wrong but harmed nobody sexually, but at the same time have mental and/or physical disabilities.

The two need to be housed in separate isolation wings, where the vulnerable can be put, where they are for sure in a vulnerable prisoner wing, and not just thrown in with the paedos. That way the other thuggish crims can make sure that their poisons, bits of razorblades, bodily produce and gone-off decaying 'food'. Somewhere they can send their bleach burgers and cleaning fluid soups in the certainty the recipient will indeed be a rapist or child molester rather than somebody guilty of a regular crime, or a drug 'crime' who also has a mental/physical vulnerability serving a sentence, rather than a hope-its-a-death-sentence.

Fucking dirty bastards, they aren't going to see any mercy or kindness from me. Come to me with compound fractures of both legs, dragging your kiddy-fiddling self across the floor and up or down the stairs, and sure I'll splint it. With your arm, after I rip it off, tape a pool ball in it's fist and finish using the application of blunt force to shove those shattered bones back into your legs.

If anyone guessed, no, I don't really like child abusers or rapists very much. Somebody happy to put a little boy's dick in their mouth? well I'd be just as happy to slit that face to give them a jokeresque rictus grin at their monstrous evil, and cut their fucking lips off to leave their bare teeth exposed. At least the ones I don't pull out with pliers and use them to carve the word 'nonce' into their forehead.

Edit: I agree about housing them separately from vulnerable inmates. How do you know their crimes? Basically what I'm specifically wondering is do you know who's vulnerable (aside from any visibly disabled) vs who's a pedo?
