As a uk resident I hear on the media and online about Americas heroin problems, and figured this was a good place to get some honest answers to what is happening.is it as bad as we hear via the media, what is the cause of the rising deaths?is it fent ? And responce would be great.peace.

Indeed, the opiod crisis is certainly growing in the united states. Mostly attributed to a rise in prescription opiate abuse. Historically, the numbers aren't as astronomical as the media plays it out to be. Rich suburban white kids are now overdosing, which is the main cause for the media up stir. Yes, there certainly are more overdoses and for that you have fentanyl to thank. In my area, we had 175 overdoses in just two weeks due to a carfentanyl outbreak. Don't expect those numbers to change anytime soon with a kilo of fent costing significantly less than a kilo of heroin. It's sad, I hope the trump administration can allocate some funds to combating this issue instead of incarcerating/playing cat and mouse with the drug dealers.

There's been an "new dope epidemic" for a long time now though. Nothing new about it.only reason they care now is bc suburban white kids are all hooked now. In some cities like Philly, Camden, bmore, Newark, Paterson, maybe Chicago they have very specific "heroin" areas where that's the only industry. Similar to hamsterdam from the wire. In North philly it's not uncommon to see tons of junkies on the street, sleeping, nodding out, shooting up, dope boys on EVERY block or every 10 feet with a different type of bag. But it's been like that for 25+ years, nothing new.

Yes it's like you're describing in various East coast cities with heroin in PA, NJ, NY, MD, DC, etc. and it has been this way for decades where everyone knows if you want dope that you can easily go to certain areas of cities and get it in large or small quantities 24/7, any hour of the day or night. The cops know if they arrest one dealer or dope boy, that 10 will just take his place since it's easy money, and there's a huge demand for heroin, and other opiates. People are adding fent, and opiate research chemicals to dope, and a lot of people are over dosing, and dying.

You can also find heroin/opiates in small towns as well.

But as you wrote, it has been like this for decades.

I think there was a break during the 80's due to tons and tons of good quality Cocaine being spread out and distributed in most of the US, especially in Florida but also in California, NY etc. The cost wasn't as high and it would also appear in Hollywood movies. It seemed quite popular in any 'discos', clubs, etc. Not to mention the crack dealers selling it so cheap.

If you had normal real dope in the east coast, tar may not be normal dope, but it's not like "grey death" and such fentanyl and carfentanyl and UR-47000 mixes with just a little H in it.

Nope, there was still an "epidemic" of heroin in the 1980s; but you just heard about coke, and later freebase/crack more as the media talked about them more, there was an increase in addiction to cocaine, and the whole association with disco and coke peaked in the 1970s and even in the early 1980s with the last days of disco, powder coke was still seen as a rich man's drug or not as bad as heroin.

Perhaps I noticed it more intensely because I was in Florida where heroin was not so popular while cocaine was all over the place. Even though I lived in Illinois people where already trying speed (with powder coke + H). I wasn't so much into that at the time but coke was definitely available.

Forward 10 years and the epidemy was much more visible as most people were also doing crack and heroin on a daily basis. A totally different scene from my perception of the mid 80's mainly in Florida, but also in California and even in NY if you had money.

A woman I know online who you wouldn't believe it if I told you who she is, she's not famous, her forced boyfriend was very known in the dirtiest slummiest corners of California, pretty much the first male porn star. Now I'll stop myself, but you can find her being interviewed, but I met her on IRC as people was discovering the internet back in the late 90's and just extremely happy to make friends all over the world, now it's all about keeping up with the real ones who you can't even get to miss because "they never go away"....Anyway, in '78 he was doing the NaOH baking soda freebase shit already just 6 months after they started snorting, surprising they never shot up. And it was white hippies, not black people, black people and crack are associated because the CIA would find their "guys" in Black majority hoods on purpose as a kind of eugenics-lite which Reagan surely was sexually excited by the whole crookedness of it all.

That's a deliberate mistruth, aka "a lie." Or maybe you're just dumb cause you can't make the connection that 175 ODs in your area is a lot?

Deaths from opioids in the U.S. today are similar to HIV/AIDS deaths during the height of the epidemic.

But it's not from prescribed medication, although they throw it in them at the DEA...my poor merka friends :(

It's from "Heroin" which isn't heroin, which is from stuff I could order to get my whole fucking town high if I dosed blotters with a dose ordered from China if I was a shithead, there's no heroin here, but there is pressed pills sold as typical mdxx/2c-b "la ptite bleue" the little blue which is carfentanyl and surfentanyl in the same pill, the pills are scored twice, so they tell you basically to take just one quarter, only saw the pictures in the media. Alcohol and tobacco kills more people than anything else still here, well anything else, any self administered poisons.

^ True!

Alcohol has often been compared to heroin due to its physical dependence and maybe because they can pretty much destroy your life, career, family, etc. And cigarettes are one of the most addictive things I've seen, quite difficult to quit as people tend to smoke an average of one cigarette/hour for decades.

Well living in US is hell anyway, life is only good if you are from high or higher mid class. For lower class forget about it and for people who can't afford to stay even on low class will live in doorways. What a great country it is, total joke country. Country which is made by killing and raping native people, and then forced them to live in camps, then slaving Africans and brought them into US to build the country. Country that interfere and bully other countries by variety of ways, like DEA, military, economic etc. That kind of country should and shall fall.

Never really thought of US in that way. Of course I notice the different classes, the working one, the weath. I guess we all have our weakness. I have always had this fancy idea that in certain countries rather than others would feel safer and happier but I assume we all have all that in different scales, and adjectives.

Being honest about the past is one good way to move forward, but there will be always those who oppress, who exploit. Those whose envy-ness can be so evil.

Let's not even START talking about the white man oppressing. For your information, black slaves were being enslaved by THEY'RE own African people , and sold to Americans at the coast. So please spare all of us your Malcom X righteous big strong black man speech. No one really cares this day and age. Addiction don't care if your rich, poor, white as Casper, or black as poop. Stop it now

Your anger would have a lot more vitriol if you used the correct word when you chose to capitalize it.

Listen man, take it how you want it, you caught the gist of the message I don't feel like wasting time debating over non sense. I can't stand people who want to be the victim hundreds of years later and blame the US , still, for problems they face, when In reality these problems they have 100% control over. War is war, human nature is human nature. Goodbye end of discussion on my part. it is the year 2017.

So don't.
And please speak for yourself.

Erikmen, I was not even talking about you in the first place. I'm talking about the post where this fellow is blaming the white man for issues thst Occured hundreds of years ago, and the fact he does not know his history, and was quick to say how the white man enslaved blacks, and him not knowing that Africans sold African slaves to the white man, so this issue is a lot deeper than the white man himself. The problems in the US today have nothing to do with slavery at all. I'm sure I speak for everyone that is against racism. It is mmature and played out. atleast where I loved that is. I love all people of all races. I hate racists and people who play the victim role

I agree one hundred percent, so opiatekrzy speaks for me as well. Certain factions try to make you feel ashamed for being white. You absolutely cannot be unapologetically white anymore and it's ridiculous; although I didn't personally vote for Trump, I can see how he won: by appealing to and vindicating the white population. Like I said, I don't agree with him, but it's painfully obvious millions of people do.

It's funny: all of the folks crying about the border wall don't live in states bordered by Mexico. Move to Santa Ana, CA and tell me there's not an immigration problem . You literally cannot live and get by there unless you speak Spanish fluently - don't expect them to accommodate your English speaking ways, fuck no!

And don't you dare dismiss these points as racist or "white privilege"; I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood and have so my entire life. I DO speak Spanish fluently. I also lived in Colima, Mexico for two years. I am NOT racist.

Back on topic: when Purdue Pharma changed the formula of OxyContin to make it tamper resistant they also inadvertently created a new demographic of heroin users almost overnight - white kids from affluent cities.

Heroin is easier for me to get than weed and weed is legal where I live. I'm not exaggerating.
