Easier access, easier to quit/ cut back?

I'm in the states and currently don't live in a decriminalized zone, if I moved to a state with different laws, do think it would be easier to regulate my use? The criminal element just makes wanting to buy more detrimental drugs reasonable. So when I get pot I tend to smoke myself and others silly.

It could go either way, but with that last sentence I'm willing to bet open access would cause your habit to increase. That's wholly an assumption, of course.... only you know how well you can moderate yourself.

I'm just stuck on that "so when I get pot" part, because when you live in a recreational state you're able to get pot literally whenever you want so long as you've got the cash to pay for it. And I mean.... it's like that in black market states too, but the states that've legalized have made the drug so much more accessible for the non-stereotypical smoker that it can be hard to tell yourself no.

Comparing Colorado to a blackmarket state, I can confidently say that I am able to double my dosage while halving the expense. This can be very tempting for an addict, and I doubt you would be able to resist the deals floating around.

On the other hand, I find it twice as easy to find an MA meeting (with twice as many people) in my area compared to a blackmarket state so I'm happy I have access to a better support system than most.

If your only goal is to quit, moving to a legal state is probably not the best idea.

Good luck!

The MA meeting thing jumped out at me actually. I love alcohol but have been sober 10months with meetings. The whole getting a criminal record for a gram to just enjoy with my wife is my driving motivations. I'm an addict so I also realize the danger of ease of access, thanks for the responses!

Grats on the 10 months! That's awesome!

If you don't plan on completely quitting, then getting in trouble with the law can become a huge problem for you in a non legal state so I can see why you would want to consider moving.

If you don't end up moving and you are still looking for support, you can find meetings here:

There is also the option of online meetings if you are unable to be there in person on that same website. Other websites such as https://www.reddit.com/r/leaves/ have a great support system as well.
