uh, Arrival was probably my movie of the year ... Gibson for best director nom? Really?

what a shitshow of an Oscars tbh.

I've only watched 5 of the 9 best pictures noms, but I thought this was actually a really good year. But then again, out of those five, I liked Arrival the least by far. To each their own, though. I'd really love to see Moonlight win...but according to every single thing I've read La La Land is a lock. But honestly LLL was my third or fourth of the entire year, so I'm good with it winning too.

I'm waiting to see what happens at the SAG awards tonight before I decide on anything.

did anyone else think hacksaw ridge was straight hot garbage ?

i haven't seen em all, so i can't be fair. rockin with moonlight tho. not madd if fences or arrival win tho. big up

I cringe every time I hear Andrew Garfield's "southern" accent. Wonderful direction there, Mel. You've really outdone yourself. I'm going to try to watch all four left on my list, but I'm putting this at the bottom.

I think you made the smart picks, ali. Going out on a limb on some of these.

Any more takers? I think this year is going to be all over the place.

Last chance for anyone interested... I think we're nearing 2 hours to go.

Congrats :)

No real surprises. I wish Kubo would have won but honestly I'm just glad Moonlight got the best picture. I think its ten times the movie La La Land is... and I really liked La La Land.

I thought Kimmel did a great job. I thought the opening was different and much less contrived than it usually is. I liked all the little pieces they did throughout the show, like the ones with Seth Rogan and Michael J. Fox etc etc. Props to the La La Land producer guy that really stepped up and took control of that mess at the end. Class. I feel bad for their cast and crew as well as Moonlight's. They both got short changed in the end but shit happens I guess.

i was 9-1 for a minute there :)

the fuck up at the end was crazy. how does that even happen?

Apparently it was a duplicate card from the lead actress category...Emma Stone said she had the original. I guess the accounting firm is "investigating" how and why it got mixed up. My question is why was there more than one to begin with. I mean, how hard is it to put the right cards in the right envelopes when thats your only job?

The fuck up was indeed a fuck up. I don't usually watch the Oscars for the same reason I am incapable of watching sports: I want everyone to win!8) But in this case I was working on a joint project with someone and she had the Oscars on so I was drawn in. I really wanted either Moonlight or Manchester to win best film and I wanted Casey Affleck to win best actor. Never saw Hacksaw Ridge nor Arrival so can't give commentary on those. Thought LaLa Land was over-rated so was happy that Moonlight ended up winning but felt bad for everyone involved. I seem to remember this happening a long time ago to a Miss America...oops, you actually have to give that crown, that you just put on, away.

I wonder why would they want to do that, if it was somehow on purpose.

Just for the extra news coverage, I guess. But I don't really buy that. Maybe to make sure people were talking about that instead of whether the Academy is racist or not? Nah, I'd say it was just a fuck up. Apparently they have an envelope for each side of the stage so they can hand one to the presenter no matter which side they choose to walk through.
