EADD Film Recommendations v6 - Nominated five times

I watched a very random movie the other night - I struggled to watch it as I had no clue what was going on.

'The Void' - Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures.

I have no idea what it was about ? Aliens - monsters - the occult ? It's a jumble of scenes.

I'm not sure why I removed my post about 'Moonlight'

I really didn't like it - it just felt fake, added nothing new to the genre and would have been a flop if race/blm wasn't such a hot topic.

I watched the new Robocop movie last night.

I was fully predisposed to hate it, but I kind of enjoyed it. However, it's still an insult to the original and should never have been made.

The 2014 remake? Found it genuinely painful to watch myself. It's a real shame nobody ever managed to capitalise on the brilliance of the original with an even halfway decent sequel and/or remake :(

[Rogue One]: It's a great movie :) - not without its faults but still, it's like a 'Star Wars' movie. I really enjoyed it.

Totally agree. Best Star Wars movie in a very long time imo. Much better than I expected and I actually expected it to be pretty good - still managed to be very pleasantly surprised 8o

Glad you enjoyed Rogue One, it has a great 'Star Wars' feel to it that the last few just lacked.

Two new ones that I would Recommend

This one is pretty strange - but worth a look

Colossal - Gloria is an out-of-work party girl forced to leave her life in NY and move back home. When reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, she gradually comes to the realization that she is somehow connected to this phenomenon.

Ghost in the Shell - In the near future, Major is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals.

I had been looking forward to this one for a while and I was not disappointed :) - yes it has received some hard reviews from people comparing it to the original and yes they are probably correct - that aside it's a great movie.

Gaurdians of the Galaxy - Tomorrow night !

Couple of cheesy horrors - both have awful reviews but I actually enjoyed them. Both of these genres have been done to death so don't expect anything special (don't forget that I really like bad horrors, Sci Fi etc)

Bye Bye Man - Three friends stumble upon the horrific origins of a mysterious figure they discover is the root cause of the evil behind unspeakable acts.

Same story as Ring, Bloody Mary etc - "Don't do this or this will happen", this is pretty dark/creepy and actually pretty good.

The Dark Tapes - A genre-defying mixture of horror, sci-fi, myth, mystery and thrills told as four interlocking tales in one intelligent anthology. Ghosts, spirits, creatures, demons and more from the paranormal world collide with rational curiosity.

"Found Footage" sort of movie with a four short stories - Good cheesy fun.

I feel so bad including the next one in the same post but

The Handmaiden - A woman is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress, but secretly she is involved in a plot to defraud her.

Beautifully shot movie - long panning shots, great story line and novel way of cutting the movie into three sections. The first two parts are the same story but seen from different persons perspective, last one is the conclusion. Chan-wook Park is the director :)

I watched a bizarre adult animation called 'Sausage Party' the other night, the characters mainly items you can buy in the supermarket

It was really funny, bawdy, a bit wrong at times (I like a bit of wrong) and there's even a serious message behind all the male sausages trying to get intside the female buns

That is such a horrible movie - it's really bad. I didn't find it funny, and they simply added the word 'fuck' in every sentence to try and be grown up? I really couldn't tell what the target audience was ?

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.

Absolutely brilliant ! Such a great movie and so much fun - highly recommend watching it in the cinema if you can. (It does start to drag at the 10 minutes though).

Get Out written and directed by Jordan Peele is a horror movie/ comedy (so like life!=D) with race in America as the subject. I keep erupting into laughter three days later.

OUt of curiosity have you ever seen 'Sex lives of the potato men' ?
If yes did you like it?

I didn't notice many 'fucks' but I did enjoy it & I'm guessing the target audience is adults with a bawdy sense of humour, dunno
We all have different things that make us laugh though - just before my friend & I chose that film after much deliberation & reading of reviews, she insisted on showing me a couple of youtube videos that she'd found so hysterical that she'd watched them over & over again and gave up half-way through playing me both of them as I just didn't find them in the slightest bit funny

No I haven't seen it, but just watched the trailer - looks like a light-weight bit of fun that I'd watch and probably enjoy if I was at someone else's and they wanted to watch a film, but wouldn't bother with at home.
It's not often that I commit to sitting down at home long enough to watch a film & I have loads recorded, so when I do, I choose one that's most likely to keep me gripped and glad I watched it instead of doing a million other things - got to hang the bloody wet washing up now

I fukkin love Chan-wook Park but haven't seen that one. Will most certainly be looking it up. I recommend everything else he has ever made.

Yes, all of it.

But a couple of specific recommendations would be...

Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (aka "The Vengeance Trilogy" - a thematic trilogy rather than a literal one) and I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK. I'd recommend 'em all but the last one is perhaps the most interesting.

His stuff is all great to be honest and why I sort of put his name in the post incase the title of the film didn't spark your interest.

I've watched a couple of strange ones recently

This was an interesting movie but really slow and I was glad when it finished

Realive - Marc (Tom Hughes) is diagnosed with a disease and is given one year left to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. Sixty years later, in the year 2084, he becomes the first man to be revived in history.

Next one - low budget stuff. I actually enjoyed this, good story and the acting wasn't terrible. Blend of time travel, zombies, aliens :D

Alien Vs Zombies - Joe Alien fulfills a dream of coming to Earth to find that it's overrun by zombies. Finding an ally in young Parker, he attempts to save the world!

I was going to see Alien Covenant at the weekend but it has been slated and ranked as the worst one in the series and a spoiler to the Alien Franchise - has anyone seen it yet?

Couldn't agree more when it comes Chan-wook Park and hopefully the big-ups will point a person or two in his direction :)

Realive is one I very nearly watched tonight but remains in my ToWatch list cos I went with a couple others instead...

Firstly was The Space Between Us - watchable but rather disappointing sci-fi/drama/romance. The conceptual stuff was interesting (if a little light) but the road trip/romance stuff was generic and the ending unforgivable. Having said that, I still made it to the end so can't be all that bad... probably :sus:

Secondly, and considerably better, was Pet. If you went by the synopsis you'd assume this was just another torture porn kinda thing. You'd be very wrong though. Turns out it is a far more complex beast. I'd compare it more with a Cronenbergesque psychological thriller. Both myself and Mrs Me enjoyed this one and I'd certainly recommend it.

As for the new Alien fillum. I've heard doom and gloom about each and every offering since Aliens and have personally enjoyed all of 'em. Admittedly some more than others. But it is totally par for the course for folk to bitch and whine about any new entry in such a hallowed series purely and totally because it is not the specific one they grew up with. Personally I highly rate Prometheus and very much look forward to Covenant.

PET is really creepy (I posted that a while back) - it's a great movie, pretty disturbing and has an almost 'Hostel' feel to it. If your after a good 'Horror' then check out 'Autopsy of Jane Doe' - old style horror, another creepy movie. Next in that style would be Lights out.

Shambles - I would be surprised if you didn't enjoy these.

Borgman, They look like people,Tyrannosaur,Sold (Human, Swiss Army man, Hector, Ethel and Earnest, Qween of Katwe)

I kinda agree with the former but only very superficially. I really don't think the "torture porn" tag fits Pet at all. Yes it is about a creepy weirdo caging a woman to fuck with her head... but - as you know - that's really not what it's about at all. Genuinely impressed by that one I must say.

Funnily enough I haz The Autopsy of Jane Doe cued up for watching in the near future. This is getting spooky 8o

Will take t'others into consideration but I currently have so many fillums lined up to watch I must admit it's unlikely I'll get round to those anytime soon. I really need to catch up on some cinematising, dammit :!

No it wasn't torture porn the way Hostel is, just that feeling of helplessness, only a few characters involved, pretty bleak, ownership etc - good stuff though. I'm sure that you will enjoy Jane Doe (another that I suggested a while back) - its a great 'horror' (so is Lights out though so grab that for future viewing).

On the subject of old style horrors - Void has to get a mention, low budget monster movie and I really enjoyed it (still not exactly sure what it was about though :D).

Have a great day
