Been absent as of the moment, but I like how this had some form of use to everyone. I'm going to sticky it.
 
I can not sleepp.... -___-. Sucks. I have to wake up early tomorrow so I'm trying to sleep but not take too many benzos.. grr. I've been drinking some Kava, I hope it helps.

Speed can get me focussed on the things that matter the least. I put way too much time into unimportant stuff and in this case, the forum screwed me over by not allowing that many images :(
 
I just wanted to ask the members here if you guys believe this thread should be "stickied" considering how often threads come up with the subject of improving sleep? Just thought keeping the discussion centralized would better compliment the future of having a positive impact on those who seek help.
 
Improving my sleep is my goal this year. I've a very bad sleeping habit and this has resulted to me having health issues.

Will try fish and also look for better way to make my bedroom more friendlier.
 
^Imo the best thing you can do is keep to a schedule and get to bed early (before 12, say). I need 8-9 hours to feel refreshed, so I(try) to make sure I'm in bed early enough to ensure that can happen. For some reason I always fight it, so you just need to try and train yourself really.
 
Few methods can improve your sleep such as maintain a regular sleeping routine, take a little dinner at night, go to the bed as early as possible, use a comfortable bed, turn off all electronic devices, keep your room temperature comfortable, take a little exercise before bed, wash your faces, use perfume etc. If you follow these ideas, I ensure you will get a good comfortable night sleep.

I have been wondering about something that I don't believe is covered yet in this thread.

Say one is on a stimulant comedown, the fun part is over and your body wants to sleep but your mind cannot.

What is least harmful? Either, a) just lie there suffering, trying your best to relax, resign yourself to poor quality, interrupted sleep at best, or no sleep at all at worst... Or, b) take some sedatives, ie, benzos or a z-drug, to ensure you do sleep for at least 4-5 hours, even if it is artificially induced.

Obviously, ideally, we all need to moderate our stimulant intake so this situation doesn't happen. But realistically it will have happened to most of us, even if, hopefully, very rarely.

I recently learned that lack of sleep or poor quality sleep is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer's, and I do personally have that APOE4 increased risk gene, so I have been trying to be a lot more strict with my sleep habits. But I am unsure what would be best in the above example - I have read that there are possible links between sleep inducing drugs like benzos and z-drugs and Alzheimer's as well, and the most well known of the Zs, zolpidem, apparently increases consolidation of negative memories, so obviously not an ideal situation for anyone's mental health.

But anyway, in the example above... What is the least harmful option?
 
Long-term, z-drugs, benzos, zombie-sleep and poor sleep architecture are undoubtedly harmful, but your scenario presented is an acute situation, so (b) and getting even non-optimal sleep is better than just suffering.

It's not like enduring through comedown insomnia without any sleep at all somehow reduces your Alzheimer's risk factors ;)
