This thread is for all your questions on chronic and acute pain management with emphasis on the first (Chronic Pain)

DO NOT POST IN HERE IF YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO GAIN INFORMATION ON HOW TO SCAM DOCTORS FOR NARCOTICS. FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THIS THREAD'S EVEN STRICTER, ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON SOURCING ANY DRUG FROM ANYWHERE WILL RESULT IN YOUR BAN. ITS HARD ENOUGH TO BE A PAIN PATIENT IN THIS DAY AND AGE AND BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY WHEN PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN HAVE REAL CONDITIONS FAKE REAL ONES FOR THEIR ADDICTIONS.

Do make sure to post a question... You can ask other for an opinion on what medications might work for you, discuss dosages, side-effects, and comparing different medications etc.

Woo! A brand new shiny pain management thread..

Well, my mom (not SWIM shit, my actual mom) is on bupe maintenance but has some chronic pain due to a disease, we don't know for sure but it may be leukemia or another form of cancer. We all know that suboxone don't do shit for that so.. What I want to know is, if a person has that "junkie" mark on their record, are they still able to receive narcotic medication for pain even after after surgery/treatments? I know it wouldn't work while she's taking the bupe but I hate to see her suffer like this as it is. Addiction issue aside, when she's finished would she be able to get anything after being sliced open and having her body parts tinkered with? I can't find any legitimate info on this.

Cancer causes pain. No arguments. This is a difficult time for my family so please be respectful if you can muster a bit of humanity. Thanks :)

Well I have been suffering from ibs for the last 3 years and I have had this constant stomach ache for all of those 3 years, the only time I get a break from this pain is when I take about 100mg of codeine. I was just curious if anyone had ibs and has a combo of drugs that could help the pain without the bed effects of codeine? Any help would be great because my doctor has no idea how to help me so I'm reaching out to see if anyone on this forum has the same issues.

Do you have Crohns disease? Sounds like a dumb question but sometimes IBS is tied into that.

SP, sorry to hear that your mum is so unwell & suffering in pain.

For cancer & surgeries opiates sure can be prescribed no matter what "black marks" your mums file may contain.

Addiction & pain are separate issues. It may be tricky to find a doctor knowledgable enough to care for your mothers pain, but it can be done.

Larger hospitals generally have addiction specialists that can work alongside the PM team to ensure your mum gets adequate analgesia, & advise on whether she should come off bupe altogether or not, as well as assist in the timing of introducing pain meds.

I hope you get an answer soon regarding exactly what the cause of pain is so that the correct treatment & pain relief can be commenced.

Ooh shiny new thread! Pain sucks I hate it. The drugs suck cos I need em but there aren't enough to make life worth living. And that's where I'm at. Everyone else having a good day?

No I'm not, I have been tested for every disease under the sun and found nothing. IBS is just a lable they put on an illnesses that they don't understand

Just to clarify I wasn't calling you dumb, I was saying my question might sound dumb. Opiates might help the pain but then again when you withdraw they cause diarrhea so really I don't know what to tell you, but I'm sure someone else here has an answer for you :)

sorry I wasn't intending for it to come across as pissed off XD it's hard to express emotion through text, and opiates help quite a bit like they stop diarrhea and stop pain but I know it's not something I can keep up for the rest of my life :/

:| I'm truly sorry for all who hurt and cannot find relief. I feel a special empathy for GI issues that make pain relief a huge roll of the dice. I understand. I, too, am desperately seeking just a modicum of relief from relentless pain.

I'm ready to take a knee and let the clock finish running down.

Hello all. I'm happy to be at the beginning of the new thread. To those in pain, I truly am sorry that you have an issue. I will lift you up in my prayers tonight.
Runtoparadise, I am trying to remember what you asked me, but I'll update you.
First of all, I called my doctor yet again, told them some concerned I had about my visit and asked for some clarification on my prescription.
I told the helpful lady on the phone that I consulted my pharmacist about the same thing.
I am referring to my ending Percocet 5/325 x 4 and starting a morphine 15mg ER x 2 per day.
End result was something about cross tolerance and starting me 20% lower than my last script?
Anyway, I can call them in a week and have the dose reevaluated.
Currently, the effects are subtle/light.
I have been drinking tonic water w/quinine, wgfj, tums and even gave plugging a go.
I also take Gabapentin and am picking up Lyrica tomorrow. I hope all these meds and the liver magic help the analgesia level go up.
It is too low. If anyone else can comment, please do.

First off, I'm sorry your mum (and all others here) are suffering so. If it were my mum, I'd go to as many of the Dr. appointments I could leading up to the surgery. You may be able to get the name of the anesthesiologist that will be on duty for her surgery. I think it's important to make sure that individual is fully informed of her history/tolerances etc. and this may be the one to ask your questions about her pain medication etc. issues. You may or may not be able to find out who will be covering as the anesthesiologist for her procedure but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm pretty sure no matter what her history may have been with pain meds, they will not leave her high and dry during or after a surgical procedure. They may be extra careful and maybe ask more questions of her but I can't believe any doc would withhold meds in this case. Again, I feel it's super important to be seen with her (at her appts.) as often as possible and make sure you both understand everything possible regarding what's going to happen from A to Z with her surgery. I fully believe in being an informed pain patient (and in general) and as a helper for your mum. I believe most docs will see this as being super responsible for your mum and may act to gain the doc's respect. For the record, I have heard of some docs who see an informed patient as a threat. In that case, I would do a 180 and get the hell out of there. There's just no room for such an attitude. Sorry I'm starting to ramble but it's close to bedtime and I btw I used to fill that role for my mom (she had MS for over 30 years before to took her 5 years ago). As she used to say, she was one tough bird!

Best of Luck!!

Peach I am so sorry to hear your mom is going through such terrible pain. I pray that doctors find the answer soon and her treatment is successful ♡ I agree with the others in the group, I do not believe doctors would withhold pain medicine when it us from cancer or related surgery. Please know I Keeping your mom and you in my prayers.

@Ergan- I am sorry you have had a stomach condition for that long without answers. Your question about can you "keep this up", and that's hard to say. Many who take opiates sporadically can maintain the spacing of days and control their dose and not become physically dependent on the drug. However, there are a large group of people that gradually fall into a pattern of addiction, start taking more than prescribed (totally me) for either pain control or to get high. The relief you felt from the codeine, did your bowel issues stop? All opiates can cause constipation, and with cessation of the diarrhea comes the cramps in your tummy to go away

Dixi, a new thought, a pain pump. Not spinal cord stim.

Doesn't affect stomach or brain, bypasses both.

Have you looked into this?

Best,

i have been prescribed bupe in the past. and I am now prescribed fentanyl and have been presribed oxy after the bupe also...granted this was all a few years after the bupe. so the answer to your question is no, if you are fcked up/in enough pain....a dr will prescribe opiates to you no problem.

the bitter "couldn't get into medschool" piece of shit pharmacist is the one I'd worry about....but your mom is a old and they usually don't fuck with old people.

SP, just to reiterate something I posted a while back..

Waaaay back in version 5.0 ;)

After I was hit by a car I was lucky enough to be in a surgical ward at a public hosp :/

A chick in my ward had been injecting her subs (to try to obtain pain relief, an ex junkie).

She only needed gallbladder surgery but was kept on bupe as well as given (pre OP & post OP) iv oxycodone & ketamine.

Was very comfortable indeed.

As an above poster mentioned, if surgery is needed in "difficult" cases a meeting will be scheduled with an anaesthetist.

I had one just for wisdom teeth extraction. With extra measures in place. Granted I was on humongous doses of oxy at that time, but anaesthetists recognise bupe as a drug like no other & will make plans accordingly to provide adequate analgesia whether for surgery or ongoing pain relief.

Again, best wishes to you both, I'm sure it's a very scary time for the two of you,

Rtp ❤️

Man oh man, have I run into more than my share of those. I had one tell me she had to wait one more day for my sleeping meds and I told her, my contract for medicine is between me and my doctor. Your job is to fill the damn thing, so do your job. Needless to say, I took the script with me when I left!

That sucks man, I'm in a similar boat. I conduct myself as if I have Crohn's but they've never been able to find the inflammation, so it's just IBS officially.

I sometimes find that my symptoms won't stop except with opiates. Often loperamide can get me most of the way there, plus cannabis of course, but something extra definitely helps. I was on pain management for almost 2 years, just got off, and I found while it feels like it helps, overall there really wasn't any objective improvement (there was subjective at the beginning but then I started having issues with peaks and valleys in blood concentration causing moodiness).

My pain has been ok recently, been off daily oxycodone since 8/8 and didn't have any until 9/2. Used a few days since then, yesterday and today took 5mg methadone, has actually been nice (I used to love methadone, one of my first opiate loves).

Ugh, my post from yesterday got accidentally deleted when I went to edit it. I ended up eating most of a 1600mcg actiq fentanyl lollipop yesterday and results were so so. Ok pain relief but not great, I had read all over fent is SO potent but imo it wasn't that strong at all. Am I using it wrong? I rubbed it on my cheek and gums and tried not to swallow my saliva. Anyone have experience with these lollies?
